  1. I guess I'll field this one for you Brad. Yes, the Sisters play with considerable volume. I use a stereo compressor between my pre-amps with a slow attack using a ratio of approx 3:1 and only compress 1-2 dB just to smooth things out. This helps me hit DAT at about -4 without worrying about digital clipping.

Watch out for Two Miles as I usually tug the record setting down a bit as this always goes through the roof.

The music is absolutely soul shaking but, as we all know, it's also seeing the performance that helps bring it home. If you're a fan now, wait until you see The Sisters shake it.

As for set lists, I've never seen one. I'm sure you'll get a Tumbleweed Tea, Two Miles but after that anything goes. Maybe you'll get a Parkdale Symphony, Brohemia, Mall Full of Toads, Po, but whatever they play, you're gonna have fun...

I'm trying my best to get up to Ottawa but working through a pile of editing and hoping that nothing walks in the door before now and tomorrow...

  2. "...unless by some miracle he happens to play it at an upcoming show, Ottawa, for example, when we might get lucky and have someone record it successfully", you forgot to add.

Hmmmm, guess recording every Monday night for over a year isn't "worthy" when it comes to recording "successfully". My apologies for not recording this night after acquiring a total of 8 hours of shut eye over 7 days....

Looks like I'm gonna have to come to O-town to give anal retentive Brad M a kick in the arse!!!

No Taping For Brad M! Bad Taper! Go take a time out in the corner for 5 minutes....

    LOL!!!

  3. Wow Sharon, that is just pathetic. I can start my rant on how our justice system HAS to do away with the "Young offenders Act". These kids KNOW they can get away with pretty much anything short of murder, and even sometimes that...

Parents can no longer "discipline" their children without fear of being sued by their own children or some activist group.

When I was a kid and did something that I damn well knew was wrong, well, a apanking was coming and I knew it.

I wish Bouche coulda kicked their punk asses...

  4. i was thinking about passing aorund a petition at the white house to get trey to play canada. maybe he'll play o'canada jimi hendrix style. fuck yeah!!!!

Bouche, Ms. Hux, myself and a few others had the pleasure of hearing Kevin Breit play "O Canada" on slide in April. Just my opinion, but I'd rather hear a true Canadian play O Canada....

  5. So far the only "true donairs" (or mystery meat wrapped with tomatoes, onions drowning in donair sauce) are found in the Maritimes "King of Donair" that is on Spring Garden Rd (still?) made THE BEST donairs I have ever had. Just thinking about them is inducing "Homer Drool"...

  6. Heh Heh, thanks for the concern. What I meant was I'm looking forward to this coming Monday to see if it is anything like last year's end of May night AND the upcoming show at Nathan Phillips Square. Rumour has it there will be extra percussion set up at The Orbit just in case...

Monday's show is still causing 99% of the voices in my head to sound like wahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwahwah.............

  7. Okay, where to begin...

It was this time last year that The Siters were playing some amazing nights during May. Some of you out there have a copy of the May 31 show and would probably agree...

Well, it's May again and for the third week The Sisters just simply were incredible. When I first started going to Phish shows back in '93, I met people who were lucky enough to have taken in some of the nights they played at Nectar's. It was always in my mind how fortunate it was for those to have that experience, to witness and share in that spontaneous energy. There is no question that this is what we, the regulars and others who come to The Orbit Room are witnessing every Monday night.

Usually on a "Long Weekend Monday" the crowd is a little thin and unexpected moments are bound to occur despite the lack of patrons. But last night when the Sisters hit the stage the room was filling up and it just didn't stop. Whether last night's full moon had some influence on the music or not, they played two solid sets that included everything from The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" to an Alice Cooper (?) cover not to mention their own mind warping originals. The first set was just over an hour and the second with encore clocked in at 92 minutes and they didn't stop until 2:00am. The crowd was having a blast bantering with Kevin as he is never one to back down from a "battle of wits". And a Calhoun story thrown in always adds to the ever present humour that is part of the night.

I'm transferring the show and hopefully Bouche will have a spot to host the entire night as this, in my humble opinion, was one of the best nights I've seen them play.

So looking forward to this coming Monday and Folk Alarm with MM&W. Rumours are already flying that after MM&W finish at Nathan Phillips Square that they'll be heading down to The Orbit to possibly jam with The Sisters. One can only hope...

  8. Dude,

Think hard about a full liquidation. I know its a pain in the ass to take that stuff with you - I've moved across the country four times.

A lot of your gear sounds like stuff that is hard to replace (at least, you won't get replacement value if you sell it off...) and that you'll want once you're established on the coast.

Why not store it somewhere (friends/family) and have it shipped once you are established. Or, ship it out now and store it until you can deal...

Just some thoughts from someone who's done the same and regretted it.

    What he said...

  9. Hmmmm, did I miss something? I'm wondering if some folk here are a bit shy? Kaidy Mae, the 4-11-05 show that Bouche passed your way is the one I recorded. I'm there every night archiving the shows to use for his website and for others.

I see all people posting that they were at The Orbit Room, yet no one seems to stop and say hello.

Holy Jebus, just because I'm taping doesn't mean I don't like to meet some of the people on this board.

No, I'm not upset. I'll get over this....

The samples that he was playing through his pickup last night were crazy. What a twisted twisted evening. That was really off the wall from an "average" night, if there is such a thing.

  10. What can I say about this? Being so pissed off with politics lately, seeing Belinda make this move is great. This is one intelligent person who'll hopefully breath some life and integrity back into a party that so desperately needs it.

    Just my humble opinion.

  11. Hey M,

I'm pretty sure start times will be the same. They tried to start playing earlier, but as the place doesn't really start to fill up until 10-ish, they seem to have gone back to the 10:30 start time...

Last week they played "It Makes No Difference" and the week before "The Weight". So the change up with the Prince tune hopefully indicates that "anything goes"....

Maniac, yah, to say the least...That was a sweet Manic Monday for sure...
