  1. Hey, other than the love scenes from 9 1/2 weeks, there aren't too many others that wouldn't make the average Star Wars fan gag a little and, as LowRoller said, it was a necessary plot element.

As far as one liners go "...nerf herder" from Empire and "Laugh it up, fuzzball" weren't any better than Windu's "This party's over line". Plus, if you can dispatch the suit so quickly, who gives a shit what you say!

The special f/x were great and very much downplayed from Phantom. My ears were very pleasantly surprised by the sound f/x...how 'bout them Sonic Mines?!?

Anyway, we ain't seven year olds no more and the "comic book" feel of a good Star Wars movie might not sit as well as it did in the early 80's late 70's....

Lucas does need to cut out some of the 3PO head mix-up scenes, methinks!

  2. Major Bad Guys:

Gargamelle (you know, that crazy bastard with the cat in the Smurfs... I mean, who would wanna kill Smurfette!?!?)

The Mask of Vulcan and Daedalus from the Hercules cartoon... the Mask was, by far, the coolest, but he needed some sort of chin strap for that helmet... I mean, come on!

Boba Fett, easily, over Darth! The guy was given the shittiest death ever, but he was still the coolest...

By the sounds of it, Booche, you Alzheimer's is kickin' in too! How else would be getting old? In her old age is the obvious choice. By the way, your Depends are falling down and you've got a chunk of prune on your face!

  3. Attack of the Clones breaks many molds for the Star Wars Saga... one of the reasons why I think some 'fans' might be turned off by it.

The intrigue and necessary development of the Annikin/Padme love story are done extremely well, especially the unravelling of the Jango/Clone mystery.

The plot sequence is unique for Star Wars... a slow, methodical beginning that pulls you into the story line. The real action is left for the end...without a doubt this is doen on purpose and done very well.

As far as some of the 'cheesy' aspects of the film, all I gotta say is if you want to critically analyze any of the Star Wars movies you should read my comments about Roger Ebert's review. None of these movies is meant for that sort of scrutiny. The reason many of us are watching them now with such anticipation is because of the lasting impression they made when we were 7 years old or so! In other words, take the critics hats off, enjoy an age old saga and have a few laughs!

Prepare yourselves for Episode III: Revenge of the Sith!!!

  4. You see, I'm a hapless Canucks fan... destined to watch the playoffs (from the second round on at best) from the sidelines. Been there cheering them on since I was about 10 (when I could appreciate three straight hours of hockey, rather than just an hour in the freezing cold on the street)...

I have almost psychotic superstitions surrounding how I can help the team win - do I wear the away sweater tonite, or should I just stick with the ratty t-shirt? Was it a hamburger I ate last time they won in OT? Alright then waiter, I'll take the Royale with Cheese!)

I've also pledged that in the event that they win the Cup, I will forfeit most of everything that I own and live in a cardboard box as thanks to the gods!

So, that's kinda what I was looking for...

  5. Dunno if I can initiate one of these, but I'll give it a valiant effort (I don't even know if this question has been dealt with before)

What makes a fan a real fan?

I'm looking for a fan of a specific team, not a fan of a sport in general, or a fan of Canadian content in the Playoffs. I wanna know what you think it takes to be considered a real fan of a team and not just an annoying Bandwagoneer!

  6. The Habs fought long and hard...their "Playoffs" started at least two months ago, so it should come as no surprise that the fuel tank ran dry a little early. Jose, Dougie, Saku (yes, I'm on a first name basis with them...I'm really Doug Jarvis in diguise) all did admirably well! If management decides to fire anybody over this series, they gotta be a bunch of crack heads (apologies to all crack heads out there)...

  7. The profession of critic (be it a movie critic, a food critic, an art critic) is about the lowest form of profession ever...and when I say that, I mean so low, that they look up at the lawyers, real estate agents, used car salespeople and useless fodder like Alex Mogilny.

Ebert, even in the Siskel years, was no more than a pudgy man with an inferiority complex and a venue to rant. Their two cents worth is way over-priced...

    He's probably a Sens fan, too... grin.gif" border="0

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

They hung movie critics by the toes and let Ewoks beat them with little sticks and rocks!

  8. Remember, boys and girls, this is a best-of-seven series...that was game one...

Before last night "Second Round" meant starting on the back nine for Jacques Martin and his crew...

Remember, I'm an unbiased fan of an undisclosed Western Conference team (rhymes with LaPucks), so don't get too snippity you Trojan fans.

  9. Way to go moe.!

now you've got to deal with life after school... generally known as "Running from Canada Student Loans"...

man, I feel like a nice coconut! Yum! er...maybe a Chicken Sandwich! Hell, a chicken-coconut sandwich would do just right!

kinda sounds like a Seinfeld episode! Thanks for the heads-up, I guess I can change it so that any casual surfer wandering thru the halls of the Phish Sanctuary doesn't think they've come across the ultimate jackpot of Robert Duvall porn!

    Hey Reba

  11. Man I can't believe that I forgot Robert Pirsig... Zen and the Art is probably one of the most disturbing and enlightening books all at the same time...kinda makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about it!

We all have our own Phaedrus!

  12. you all rock...

this is exactly what I needed to hear/read! Thanks to all for the input so far...i'll let you know how the process goes

I will definitely start with The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday (thanx Treyter) and work my out from there

scottieking, what is it about the 4/16/92 show that most impressed you? How much has it influenced the rest of your Phish experiences? That should be a nice simple question to answer!

    thanx again all!

  13. Pardon the giant signature! I had no idea the man was so gigantic. By my calculations, he was over 16 feet tall, which is somewhat abnormal for his era... I'll stick with Duvall for now as he is just under 10 feet tall (based on the proportions in the pics) and fits better in web format...

    (insert segue here)

As far as Phish is concerned, I have an extremely limited base to work from them. My sole source for anything Phishy would be dogatthestation and his live-in Habs fan Reba. Any advice on how to proceed into Phish Utopia would be greatly appreciated... what should I listen to first? It doesn't necessarily need to be their best performance, but maybe their most quintessential... if there is a difference... anyway, I'm looking forward to your thoughts (good or bad)

    tongue.gif" border="0confused.gif" border="0wink.gif" border="0

  14. Kurt Vonnegut...the man is about as incisive and insightful as anyone ever has been

Then, if yer into lemurs, the odd William Burroughs read will do ya just fine...

Finally, for that epic length kind of thing, Frank Herbert's Dune series. It might be found in the 'Sci-Fi' section, but this series of books has more to do with religion and its mis-use than even the Bible... (P.S.Do not watch the movie/made-fer-T.V. series. The David Lynch bit has been editted to hell and back again, while the T.V. version was made by morons and/or kindergarteners)
