  1. the threat of making an uneducated post hasn't stopped me yet, so here's a take on the definition from someone looking in from the outside:

jamband: (jăm-bănd) a group of musicians who play with zeal and the intention of luring listeners into uninhibited dance. Not a genre-oriented defintion, but a motive-driven defintion. see also, the jamband scene, an important part of the defintion.

In short, I think the scene itself seems to help define the performers. Many bands 'jam' in their own right but do not seem to fall into the category...being a Doors fan, I've heard many a Morisson/Manzarek/Krieger/Densmore jam of navajo proportions, but not necessarily the same as what I've seen in the limited jamband experience that i've had...

    that's the scoop, poop...

Oh ya and speaking of the Doors

    Late breaking news:

    Los Angeles, CA

Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger announced plans for a Doors reunion show Sept. 6 at the California Motor Speedway just outside LA County. John Densmore is expected to participate but due to a health concern, there is a possibility his doctors will forbid him from playing. In that event, the Doors have already arranged for an alternate world class drummer to fill in. Ian Astbury will handle the majority of the leadvocals and there will be special guest vocalists and musicians as well. With the exception of the rock and roll hall of fame induction in 1972 and last years VH1 Storytellers special, the band has not played in concert since they disbanded in 1973--in fact, September 2, 1972 was their last concert so it's is almost 30 years to the day.

In Spring of 2003, the band will announce tour dates for the US and Europe. After that tour it is expected the Doors will go into the studio to record an album of new material. Already Robby, Ray and John have been writing new songs.

    ian astbury....eeeckk

  3. gotta admit...i'm getting served a 1/2 a Nero sandwich on a silver platter...thanks to Ms. Hux, the Brothers Bo{u}oche...

i'm a happy man who's bound to be much happier come Tuesday night/Wednesday morning

BTW, Ms Hux, in all her generosity, flipped me two tix to 'phil and his buds', one of which I don't really need... seeing as one good turn deserves another, i'd like to make sure the second one does not go to waste, so let's keep the good karma going and find out who would like a ticket?!?!

    Pretty funny.

what about the A-team... you could drop a 20 megaton warhead on any of those dudes and they'd come stumblin' out of the settling mushroom cloud, wiping the dust from their clothes! Not a scratch on 'em!

  5. Fav shows include:

    G-force

    Original Spider-man

    Hercules

    Battlestar Galactica

    Mork & Mindy

    Hilarious House of Frightenstein

*pop quiz potential answer: James Garner played Bret, James Bond..err...Roger Moore played Beau and that Kelly guy played Bart.

I think they were all closet opiate addicts

Good show, but I was more a fan of the boys from Ponderosa Ranch

Badges?! Badges?! We don't need no stinkin' badges!

  6. I second that motion, Bouche!!!

WOW! I had no idea it would be that easy! I thought the screening process had at least a few more steps to it - you know, like a phish-related trivia challenge, a 'name that tune' speed round and the final ShowCase Showdown to determine the victor...

A very big "THANK YOU" to Ms. Hux (who will be officially deified later next week) -and some more related thanks to the rest of the Skanks for putting up with me!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That busted my one and only nut!

hey, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do and if that means revealing my true nature as 'green on the scene', i'm more than willing to admit to it!

BTW booche, the doctor says its mostly useless, so you could borrow my detachable third nut if you ever need it in a pinch

  8. Here's the sob story...

i'm so new to the 'scene' (if you can call the odd foray with dogatthestation to the scherzo/shot, and my multiple pointless posts on the Skank being part of the scene) that it almost hurts and according to a few inside sources this is a show that should not be missed... a possible baptism by fire so to speak. plus, the doctors have only given me another 58 years, my dog ate my homework and the cheque is in the mail. I'm going for the pity votes, here.

Seriously, though, i was just visiting ticketmaster and going over the speech to the wife about how i needed to see this phil guy and his buddies... i was getting desperate.

  9. man o man, i can't resist Canucks talk...

the loss of cassels is a big one fer sure Jaimoe and strudwick isn't all too good either...

BUT, remember who we are dealing with. Mr. Burke is no slouch in the GM role and he will throw someone into the mix in the near future... the 'nucks went thorugh a real lull at centre a few years bacjk and there is no way he's about to let that happen again.

the twins need some more time. they are a big investment and they need some nurturing.

clouts will be not unlike chris osgood (at least for the time being). highly underrated but proficient at what he does. the playoff meltdown was a bummer but he's got plenty of time to redeem himself. Mr. Skudra will make an excellent netminding partner.

Todd Bertuzzi is the most outstanding 'power' forward right now. i put 'power' in the little do-flickies because the moves he is able to make do not look like the moves of the usual run-of-the-mill power forwards...

wish i could contribute more to the real purpose of this site, but i'll ramble nonetheless!
