  1. Damn! Santana is my guitar hero - I've missed all his previous Toronto shows - especially sad to have missed his co-bill about '92-'94 with Bob Dylan - I had tickets but had to miss it as my grandfather passed away suddenly. I'm there this time !
  2. Having your recordings stolen I'm sure is the biggest dissapointment - equipment can be replaced - albeit it depends on the amount of work put in - but I'm willing to say that that part hurts the most - trying to capture those performances again will be painful this actually happened to a friend of mine from Halifax - Carlo Spinazolla - he was recording in a makeshift studio in Halifax's North end with Jorun Bombay ( the guy that Buck 65 credits the most in getting him started in Halifax) - they were creating a hip hop meets blues Album - and some crackhead must have come in stolen a bunch of shit and they lost a couple months worth of work. Carlo Spinazolla came from a rich musical family ~ he would likely be the 2nd guitarist in Slowcoaster if he was still here today. He let me comedown and listen to them record - it was a sound that I'd never heard before - fat hip hop beats combined with roots blues guitar and firey lap slide. The project was still only developing they (Carlo and Jorun) had been getting together on and off for a couple of months - but the project took a life to it's own. Unfortunately Carlos - who was a prolific artist (he was a painter & musician) was having depression problems - he had moved out west and upon a deep depression he took his own life. The whole thing is pretty shrouded in mystery - the family did not release that info until well after his funeral. Best of luck to you Julian - i hope some karma helps you get your stuff back.

The by's combine above average musicianship with guitarist / vocalist Steven MacDougall's stellar songwriting to produce a danceable, sing-alongable, funny, affecting, noir-ish set of music that's both as "tight as a whip" and just a bit sketchy. Steve MacDougall (Lead guitar & vocals) Mike Lelievre (Bass guitar, vocals) Brian Talbot (Drums) HEY OCEAN! www.heyocean.com www.myspace.com/heyocean Hey Ocean! is a young Vancouver band with an infectious musical style and onstage charisma that continually captures the hearts of their ever-growing audience. Fresh off the release of their first full-length album, Stop Looking Like Music (2006), the band is spreading their feel good grooves across the country garnering critical acclaim from a wide variety of listeners – both young and old. While musical chemistry and talent are evident on their new release, the band’s live performance is where they truly shine. Regularly playing club shows to as many as 600 fans, their unique style and charisma energizes entire rooms and has concertgoers up and dancing within moments. Ashleigh Ball - Vocals/Flute David Beckingham - Vocals/Guitar Dave Vertesi - Bass Benny Schuetze - Percussion Spookey Reuben www.myspace.com/spookeyruben http://www.hi-hat.ca/ In the mid-'90s, he charmed MuchMusic viewers with his awesome "These Days Are Old" video and a chorus that sounded something like "doot a loop ee-ay-ay, oh ooh yay." He was "Canada's answer to Beck." He toured with a very fine list of international artists like The Flaming Lips and Ben Folds Five. In 2001, he resurfaced with a critically acclaimed double album called Bed And Breakfast and toured Canada the following year. And then Spookey Ruben vanished. There have been some sasquatch-like sightings of the eccentric musician since those days. He's received the occasional ChartAttack Rock 'n' Roll report card for appearances at North By Northeast and Canadian Music Week over the years. He was even nominated for The Greatest Canadian during that CBC campaign awhile back. But Ruben continued to be an elusive creature... until now. After five years in L.A., working as a film composer, Ruben is returning to the great white north. "I just really missed Canada," he says. "In L.A. I was working lots and making good money, but felt lonely. When you live in a place where you don't have any family you feel a little out of place." Ruben is currently putting the finishing touches on his follow-up to Bed And Breakfast, which should be in stores early next year. In the meantime, he's doing a handful of shows with his brand new Toronto-based band, The Young Coconuts. presented by: www.myspace.com/nufunk www.nufunk.ca

Today almost anywhere in the world when the name Bob Marley is mentioned it is recognized by old and young. He remains enormously popular and well known all over the world. Reggae's most transcendent and iconic figure, Bob Marley was the first Jamaican artist to achieve international superstardom, in the process introducing the music of his native island nation to the far-flung corners of the globe. Marley's music gave voice to the day-to-day struggles of the Jamaican experience, vividly capturing not only the plight of the country's impoverished and oppressed but also the devout spirituality that remains their source of strength. His songs of faith, devotion, and revolution created a legacy that continues to live on not only through the music of his extended family but also through generations of artists the world over touched by his genius. With a special cast of Toronto Musicians, Djs and MCs, a celebration of Bob Marley's legacy of music, peace and love will take at LEE's PALACE on Saturday February 9th, 2008 FEATURED ARTISTS: House of David Gang Featuring King Selah THE HOUSE OF DAVID GANG is a Toronto-based reggae outfit that delivers late 70s and early 80s style Jamaican reggae classics . Formed in Toronto over 15 years ago, the band is fronted by seasoned reggae veteran King Selah and whose members have included members of Resinators, Irie Band, Explorer Band, Revelation, Sellasie I Power and many others. The House of David Gang got it's name from a House that a group of like minded Toronto Reggae Musicians lived in and who held after-hour reggae parties for several years which developed the musicians into some of Toronto's Top session players. For the past 15 years King Selah and the House of David Gang have hosted the Toronto Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer Tributes which have helped bring light to Toronto's burgeoning roots rock reggae scene. Now with a new line-up - The House of David Gang faithfully recreates the Bob Marley Sound - which includes 2 guitarists, 2 keyboardists and a strong rhythm section of Jah-Lin (drums) and Uncledropsi (bass). The House of David Gang is: King Selah - Lead Vocals Collin Edwards - Drums & Backup Vocals Uncledropsi - Hip Hop MC,Bass Jay Cleary - Rhythm & Lead guitar Killa Henderson - Keyboards Gerry-I - Keyboards Meghan "Makaya" Kelday - Lead and Backup Vocals Lucas Edwards - Rhythm & Lead guitar DJ Jeremiah & ISAX from superheavy REGGAE www.myspace.com/isaxinjah www.myspace.com/superheavyreggaemusic Created in 2000, superheavyREGGAE was formed by Jeremiah, Friendlyness and I-sax with a mission to give the reggae massive the best in Modern Roots, Lovers Rock and Classic Dubs. Starting off with some scattered shows here and there throughout the city of Toronto, superheavy originally settled in at 56 Kensington Ave in the heart of the famous Kensington Market, holding a regular session on the second Saturday of each month . After 56 closed down they made the move over to Thymeless, home of the First Trumpet sound system. Now, after about 3 years of holding it steady at Thymeless, superheavy going on stronger than ever. superheavyREGGAE draws the people because they play music FOR the people. Michael Garrick Frequently @ The Original Motorcycle Company, Micheal is a veteran of Toronto's reggae scene and has entertained local and international audiences for many years. Michael is easily one of the industry's most entertaining front men for his emotional vocal performances and percussion playing. This tune, "African Children" an Aswad cover tune was performed live @ The Bamboo prior to its closing in 2002. Jah-Lin, Uncledropsi & Lionheart fromt The Irie Band www.myspace.com/iriebandtoronto www.lionheart.ca The Irie Band is a Toronto-based reggae outfit that delivers dub riddims in a classic, Jamaican late 70s and early 80s style. Formed in January 2006, the band is fronted by seasoned reggae veteran, Steven Cogdell. For six months, the band played a weekly gig called Irie Tuesdays at Cervejaria Downtown, that honed them into a tight, heavy unit. Irie Band has performed at The El Mocambo, Lula Lounge, Ciao Edie, Parkdale Arts and Crafts Festival, Come Together Music Festival, The Townehouse, Kensington Market, Revival, Ellington's, Starlight, The Trane, Fez Baitk, Lee's Palace and at The Marijuana March at Queen's Park to over 5,000 people. www.myspace.com/fluxmobbclan Mr. Flowas electric blend of dancehall/reggae has made him an instant hit in the Toronto Club scene. High Plains Drifter www.highplainsdrifter.ca High Plains Drifter is a rootsy funk-rock and world beat ensemble, whose dynamic live performances are captivating audiences across Canada. Like imagery evoked by the mysterious quality of a traveling vagabond, High Plains Drifter is a collective of musicians traveling town to town bringing the energy of celebration to audiences everywhere. Leaning towards original roots, jazz, funk and world music, The High Plains Drifter is a groove force that keeps dancehalls packed and bodies in constant motion. High Plains Drifter draws inspiration from artists as diverse as James Brown, Herbie Hancock and Jimmy Buffet. The group, known for their unpredictable stage show, has enjoyed collaborations with a number of Canadian musicians including members of The Jimmy Swift Band, Slowcoaster, Wassabi Collective, The Chameleon Project & Slammin' Jack as well as young horn players, percussionists and turn-tablists. This special evening of music is sponsored by: www.elmocambo.ca www.canadianreggaeworld.com, www.roachorama.com, www.fusicology.com, www.hiddenjungle.ca, Shanti Baba, www.nufunk.ca and more Dr. Dfunkt www.drdfunkt.com www.myspace.com/drdfunkt The doctor's always on call... Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dr. dFunkt is one of the few Canadian acts producing original funk music. In just two years, Dr. dFunkt has released two albums, Nuerotik (2004) and Running Hot (2006). The title track from Running Hot was nominated for Urban Single of the Year at the 2007 East Coast Music Awards. Where Nuerotik was a loop-based eloctro-funk treat, Running Hot delivered a live-off-the-floor funk-rock masterpiece. Still the common thread is the tastefully catchy musicianship of Kamran Abdi - whose dark and funky grooves with soulfully melodic vocals are his trademark. A prolific songwriter, Abdi has written almost all of the material for the next Dr. dFunkt album, which he describes as “perfectly funky pop-rock.†Born in Pakistan, raised in Saudi Arabia, and educated in North America, Kamran Abdi uses the principles of funk music to incorporate his diverse influences. Their tough rhythms and killer riffs have been rocking shows throughout Atlantic Canada. This is their first Toronto appearance! More information and Group tickets can be arranged by emailing info@nufunk.ca presented in association with: www.nufunk.ca www.myspace.com/nufunk
