  1. saturday december 15th Promise at the Cavalcade of Lights Nathan Philips Square, 6 to 10pm We’re really happy to be invited by the City to contribute to their Cavalcade of Lights event by arranging djs to bookend live bands they’re bringing in. It’s a great idea - mixed with fireworks, lighting, and skating outdoors in the heart of our city. The rink at Nathan Phillips Square is absolutely huge and the weather’s been nice and cold for making ice, so conditions should be great. Bundle up, bring a thermos of hot chocolate and someone’s hand to hold - it’ll be a nice start to a romantic evening. The djs are interspersed in with 2 live bands - the Golden Dogs are punky and ska infused electro rock, and In Flight Safety have a sweet moodiness to their guitars and come from Halifax. 6.00 Ted Dancin’ (deep disco) 7.00 In Flight Safety 7.45 Rollin’ Cash (break beats and scratch) 8.15 Golden Dogs 9.00 Fireworks 9.10 Nick and Pierre (deep funk) The night coincides with Toronto’s Burning Man group’s annual Santarchy, where a jolly group dress up as Santa Clauses and go from Dundas Square through to Nathan Philips Square and on along Queen Street for a pub crawl. We’ll have fun with all the Santas on their way through. Some history of Cavalcade of Lights: This event has an impressive 40 year history. It was created in 1967 to showcase Toronto's newly constructed City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square. Cavalcade of Lights traditionally falls on the final weekend of November to kick off the holiday season with the official illumination of the square and giant christmas tree. Since 2002 it has transformed from a one night format to a month long holiday celebration with the addition of saturday night skating parties to live music at the outdoor rink. This year is under the direction of Canadian designer Brian Gluckstein, and the theme is ‘Enchanted Holiday’. The architecture of City Hall, Toronto's Official Christmas Tree, and the surrounding structures will be lit with 300,000 LED lights in the colours of red, green and white along with the trees throughout the landscape illuminated as if in bloom. At 9pm catch the highlight of the night - a fireworks display in the sky above the square. www.toronto.ca/special_events/cavalcade_lights/about.htm www.thegoldendogs.com www.inflightsafety.ca

CAULFIELD Currently based in Berlin, Jeremy is a true Toronto techno legend, having held some of the city's top residencies at Fukhouse, Industry, Blue, and Mission. Since relocating to Europe, Jeremy has quietly infiltrated the top global ranks of the minimal techno scene with his unique and edgy sound. His critically-acclaimed releases have earned him high-profile sets at clubs and festivals around the world, while his Dumb-Unit label has established itself as a force to be reckoned with. ADHAM SHAIKH With beginnings rooted in our favorite downtempo / world fusion label Interchill Records, this West Coast world fusion composer, sound designer, and DJ has created music from his own Sonicturtle mobile recording studio for many years now. His skills have taken him around the globe from the Samothraki Dance Festival in Greece to Japanese events for Dakini Records, Waveform Festival Uk, the Incredible Boom Festival In Portugal and gained him a Juno nomination in 2006. Adham has been one of our favourites for many, many years and back in April he played live for us with his band Dream Tree Project. It was an amazing performance encompassing sitar, tables and electronics at DragonFly in Parkdale. For this visit expect dance floor tempo beats to really move you as Adham takes to the decks. PAN/TONE - live Under his Pan/Tone alias, Sheldon Thompson embarked on a life of music with an aim to rock dance floors and motivated to leave no chin stroking. Currently based in Germany, his prolific studio work has seen him release dozens of records over the past few years on respected imprints including Sub-Static, Onitor, Mule Electronic, 240 Volts, Trapez, and his own Cereal/Killers label. Sheldon's incendiary live sets are second to none, and have taken him to festivals and clubs around the world from Paris to Istanbul, Rome to Tokyo, Portugal, Belgium and beyond. ADAM MARSHALL Running his New Kanada imprint, releasing on Cynosure and DJing all over North America, Adam has been a fixture in Toronto's underground techno and house scene for years. Building his reputation as a solid performer both live and behind the decks, this will be one of your very last opportunities to hear Adam play as he's departing our fair city to ply his trade in Berlin. As one of Toronto's hardest working DJs, he will be missed - so don't miss this chance to celebrate the New Year with one of his distinctive sets and say farewell to the great Adam Marshall. ECCODEK - live Eccodek is a multi-cultural, multi-genre concept created by 2007 Canadian Music Award winner Andrew McPherson. Andrew's production skills (Philosopher Kings, Jane Siberry, National Geographic.com, Vieux Farka Touré) provide the foundation for Eccodek's heady brew of dub, global groove, electronica and ambient. Released internationally on White SwanWorld/Rykodisc, Eccodek's More Africa in Us and Voices Have Eyes have generated high profile appearances on the latest Buddha Bar compilation, National Geographic.com GeoRemix project and elsewhere. With stunning vocal performances from India, Mali, Turkey, Fiji and beyond, the live 6-piece juggernaut weaves an exotic spell of manipulated samples, drums, bass, sax, percussion, flute and keys. The Phat Conductor has been bubbling under since he was named in URB Magazine’s "Next 100" a few years back and his debut album is a collage of his best work over the last half decade. It was recorded live in front of a screaming crowd at the 2007 Evolve festival in Nova Scotia and the album boasts collaborations with no less than 9 other artists. Having The Phat Conductor at the controls of a project with so much collaborative work is suiting since his spare time is spent as a self-made “Abelton Live†instructor. “Live†is an all-in-one music production, editing and performance software that has put an unparalleled amount of power into the hands of aspiring artists around the world. It is also the program that was used in the recording of this album. When asked what “Home Skool†means to him: “This album is basically a chronicle of me learning to write music. I signed my first record deal after writing just 2 tunes, so I had to learn and develop my sound much more publicly than other producers. This album is a compilation of all the singles I did during that process. Home skool also refers to my disdain for the ridiculous dichotomy of 'old' vs 'nu' school in music, fuck that shit, I'm home skool baby!†High Plains Drifter www.highplainsdrifter.ca High Plains Drifter is a eclectic collective who's funk and world beat live performances are captivating audiences across Canada. Dr. Dfunkt Halifax FUNK: FIRST TIME IN TORONTO! www.drdfunkt.com www.myspace.com/drdfunkt The doctor's always on call... Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dr. dFunkt is one of the few Canadian acts producing original funk music. In just two years, Dr. dFunkt has released two albums, Nuerotik (2004) and Running Hot (2006). The title track from Running Hot was nominated for Urban Single of the Year at the 2007 East Coast Music Awards. Where Nuerotik was a loop-based eloctro-funk treat, Running Hot delivered a live-off-the-floor funk-rock masterpiece. Still the common thread is the tastefully catchy musicianship of Kamran Abdi - whose dark and funky grooves with soulfully melodic vocals are his trademark. A prolific songwriter, Abdi has written almost all of the material for the next Dr. dFunkt album, which he describes as “perfectly funky pop-rock.†Born in Pakistan, raised in Saudi Arabia, and educated in North America, Kamran Abdi uses the principles of funk music to incorporate his diverse influences. Their tough rhythms and killer riffs have been rocking shows throughout Atlantic Canada. This is their first Toronto appearance!
