David is a graduate of New England Conservatory's contemporary improvisation program, and McGill University's jazz and classical performance program. David can be heard as a sideman on Verve Remixed 3 (Universal Records), as well as on the Junior Boys, So This Is Goodbye, and Last Exit (Domino Records). David plays bass clarinet, alto saxophone and bansuri flute; as well, he is heavily involved in electronic production. Tenor and soprano saxophonist Petr Cancura was born in Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Republic. Petr completed a masters degree at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Apart from his work with Out to Lunch, Petr plays along side The Mighty Popo, Holly Larocque Big Band, and People Music. Josiah Woodson completed his masters degree in jazz performance in trumpet and flute at New England Conservatory under full scholarship. He works as a sideman touring throughout the United States with groups based in Boston, New York and Oakland. When not on the road, Josiah spends much of his time composing for both jazz ensemble and orchestra. Eric Lane's prodigious talents have allowed him to carve out a niche for himself as one of the most interesting pianists and keyboard players on the east coast. Eric's ability to understand the nature of groove oriented music, combined with his depth as an interpreter of avant-garde has made him an extraordinarily well-rounded and compelling musician. Eric is currently finishing a jazz degree at the New England Conservatory. Electric and Upright bassist Matt Wigton joined Out to Lunch in 2006 after it relocated from Boston to New York City. His ability to move effortlessly from funk grooves to walking jazz bass lines made him the perfect fit. Apart from Out to Lunch he is busy on the New York music scene playing in a variety of bands that include Lily Maase's: The Suite Unraveling, Zach Brock and the Coffee Achievers, and Elizabeth and the Catapult. Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, drummer and sound designer Frederick Kennedy studied with Ed Soph at the University of North Texas and now makes his home in New York City. Recently, Fred has completed tours to Europe, California, and Ecuador. Fred has had the opportunity to perform with many notable artists, including David Krakauer, Sheryl Bailey, Tim Hagans, Ben Monder, Bobby Shew, Joe LoCascio, Lynn Seaton, Philip Glass, Iva Bitova, Trevor Dunn, Andrew DÂ’Angelo, Chris Speed, Ralph Allessi, and Shane Endsley.
  10. you are in luck - these guys have just moved to Toronto - so they will be kickin' around for the next year... hope to get these guys on the ontario circuit soon.
  11. Kamran Abdi and Chuck Warren played in a popular band on the East Coast called "Dr. Dfunkt" they've both recently moved to Toronto - to "make it big" sort of speak - they're pretty serious players and they've recruited myself and Dave Chan to fill out the band - we'll be playing our first show together on Dec. 29th at the Rivoli Band Websites: www.drdfunkt.com www.myspace.com/drdfunkt The doctor's always on call...Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dr. dFunkt is one of the few Canadian acts producing original funk music. In just two years, Dr. dFunkt has released two albums, Nuerotik (Nov 2004) and Running Hot (Sept 2006). The title track from Running Hot was nominated for Urban Single of the Year at the 2007 East Coast Music Awards. Where Nuerotik was a loop-based eloctro-funk treat, Running Hot delivered a live-off-the-floor funk-rock masterpiece. Still the common thread is the tastefully catchy musicianship of Kamran Abdi. Dark and funky grooves with soulfully melodic vocals are his trademark. A prolific songwriter, Abdi has written almost all of the material for the next Dr. dFunkt album, which he describes as “perfectly funky pop-rock.†Born in Pakistan, raised in Saudi Arabia, and educated in North America, Kamran Abdi uses the principles of funk music to incorporate his diverse influences. Their live performances are described as Prince & Jamiroquai -meets- Guns N' Roses & Daft Punk. Some of their live covers include funked out versions of Could You Be Loved (Bob Marley), Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana), Whipping Post (ABB) and Black Sabbath (Black Sabbath). Their tough rhythms and killer riffs have been rocking shows throughout Atlantic Canada.... ... it all starts again now outta Toronto comments and suggestions encouraged!
  12. I bet there will be keys you can use... let's hope tommorrow isn't so snowy... although I like having excuses to stay in..
  13. This is a specialty event - Revival had hosted a VIP jam for a couple of years and in it's hey day it was quite successfull ... but over time they stopped promoting it at the same level and some of the hot players stopped coming out... this installment reunites the old skool players - the Rich Browns, Shumakas, Wade O'Brian etc... can you make it Jeff?
  14. some really great players are going to be there this MONDAY! if you're a player looking to jam a tune - this could be your night - I'm hopefully gonna be playing on Stage with drummer Shumaka!
  15. Feb 2nd at El Mocambo w/ Hey Ocean
  16. woah! it was Gord Downie, Gordie Johnson, Sarah Harmer and William Plasket as special guests tonight at the Horseshoe. what a crazy night!! Gavin and Jeff from BNB also played with Pete Elkas who played with Joel as well as opened the night. It was a nice unique Canadian music feeling - almost like the cozy canjam love in last week - but tonight it was the CAN ROCK night of the year! So lucky I made it! p.s. I also spent time hanging out with Vincent Galo - he was pumped because "Meg" was going to be at his show in Detroit the following day. whoa!
  17. No one in this thread is from Toronto, but I just wanted to say the party promoters doing the aformentioned NYE Party are doing a free DJ Skating Party this Saturday @ 7 - 10 pm at Nathan Philips Square. It's gonna be an awesome New Years ! So many things to be thankful for - here's to what a great and crazy year 2007 was!
