  1. NuFunk Presents Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 Chameleon Project CD Launch Party with DJs Jamie Kidd & Ankle Mix Round Venue - 529 Kensington Ave Facebook / Online Tickets The Chameleon Project Funk ‘N’ Space: Psychedelic Dance Music www.chameleonproject.ca Like the chromatophoric creature that gives the band its name, Chameleon Project (CP) effortlessly changes colours and taking dub, jazz, disco, funk and psychedelia, to outer space and back, creating a completely original live electronica musical experience -- rich with heavy bass, daring improvisations and mind-bending tonal colours. Based in Toronto and led by fearlessly creative guitarist Josh Laing and bassist/producer Snappy Homefry, Chameleon Project has steadily built a following in its home city, across Canada and beyond for over a decade. Known and appreciated as instigators of the local live jam, fusion and electronica scenes, CP has hosted and shared the stage with such heavyweights within it’s ecosystem as: The New Deal, Lotus, Bassnectar, Charlie Hunter, DJ Shadow, Keller Williams, EOTO, Dub Trio, Garaj Mahal, and Biodiesel. Their festival and touring resume includes Camp Bisco (Mariaville, NY), Evolve (Antigonish, NS), Freedom Festival, Illumination Festival and the NuJazz Festival (Toronto), along with hundreds of club dates in Canada and the eastern United States; performing for for audiences numbering in the thousands. “Funk N Space is the most sonically advanced album Chameleon Project has ever produced,” says Laing. We’re proud of how our songwriting and sound have evolved, and people who have heard the new record in progress comment on how much impact the new music has and how they’ve never heard anything like it. Creatively, we focused on themes and narratives with songs like Bigfoot and the Kraken, along with psychedelic experiences and journeys into the centre of the mind, with the goal to blur the line between live instrumentation and audio technology. We think it’s a real vision of the future that truly brings our brand of funk into new sonic space.”
  2. Live Nation in association with NuFunk Concerts Presents Thursday, April 9th, 2015 The Cat Empire with special guests Current Swell The Danforth Music Hall - 147 Danforth Ave. Facebook / Online Tickets Tickets available at all Ticketmaster outlets, Rotate This, Soundscapes or call 1-855-985-5000 Tickets (incl. HST) $27.50 General Admission Floor / Reserved Balcony / All Ages Online Tickets: http://www.ticketmaster.ca/event/10004E25DA4753EB Onsale Fri. Jan. 9th, 2015 Australian band, The Cat Empire, will head out on a highly-anticipated North American tour this spring, performing shows coast-to-coast. Returning annually or bi-annually to the continent for over 12 years now, the group didn't make it to North America in 2014, causing fans to turn to social media, posting online petitions, lobbying via Facebook and 'virtually' begging the band to return. The Cat Empire have delivered, with a 15-date tour kicking off in Vancouver on April 3, 2015 and wrapping in Honolulu on April 25, 2015. More than a decade into their career, The Cat Empire have emerged as one of a small handful of international bands able to inspire such a dedicated following and enduring worldwide career. "We're excited to get back to North America in 2015," says lead vocalist Felix Riebl. "We're coming off the summer festival season in Australia, and some time in the studio, so there should be some new songs and a lot of energy from within the group." Renown all around the globe as one of the world's best festival bands, The Cat Empire bring incredible musicality, humour, entertainment and energy to each live show. The group transcends genres with music that can be described as Jazz, Reggae, Funk, Latin, Gypsy, Cuban, or even Australian party music - their latest album, Steal The Light debuted Top 20 in six countries. Having previously performed on top entertainment shows such as Jay Leno's The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman, their annual global pilgrimage now sees them playing to over a quarter of a million people each year.

  5. Anyone heard of this new project DRKWAV ? I got the call last week to do a DJ Set to open for them at Brooklyn Bowl. DRKWAV is Skerik (saxophones), John Medeski (keyboards) and Adam Deitch (drums). The three master musicians have come together for The Purge, an entirely uncompromising debut album that delves deep into the psychedelic corners of the human psyche. Some pretty strong & interesting reviews so far: Boston Globe: DRKWAV in deconstruction zone at Regattabar http://bit.ly/1GcfGH3 New York Times Review" The correlation between tight groove and good feeling gets willfully complicated in the music of DRKWAV http://nyti.ms/1FOw9gY Jambase: The Art Of The Sit-In | Adam Deitch http://bit.ly/1F1VDHw Take a listen to their twisted-cinematic-jazztronica-fusion track "Darkwave" https://soundcloud.com/the-royal-potato-family/drkwav-darkwave

  8. I was able to score pretty good tickets for all three nights in section 242, but looking at StubHub makes me feel like I can't afford not to sell them ... I see they are up at $5,689.25... Although I wonder if anyone would be crazy enough to buy 'em at that price.

  11. This Saturday, Funk Blow out with Lettuce & Break Science at The Danforth Music Hall Check the promo video for this incredible double header! After celebrating their 20th anniversary as modern day rulers of old school funk, the Brooklyn-based juggernaut Lettuce is not showing any signs of slowing. Having blown up stages from coast to coast last year, Lettuce is poised to continue their rapid growth throughout 2015. “We’re more together and set to crush than ever before,” says drummer and chief songwriter Adam Deitch of the all-star group that he and his accomplished bandmates cut their teeth with back in their Berklee School of Music days. That much history, along with the A-list crop of projects that each member has taken on away from Lettuce, gives the group a bottomless well of musical ideas and unrivaled chemistry. “People tend to look at funk as a one-trick pony," says Deitch, "but we aim to smash those limits by drawing on a range of styles that can be traced from the early ’60s through the early ’80s, incorporating plenty of modern hip-hop sensibilities—heavy bass, kick and snare—along the way.” Having evolved and refocused without ever dropping the beat, Lettuce is getting ready to take audiences to the cosmos on their high-octane winter tour. Embrace & NuFunk Presents Saturday, February 21st, 2015 Lettuce & special guests Break Science The Danforth Music Hall - 147 Danforth Ave. Facebook / Online Tickets

Years later, the moment that had the most impact on him was catching Grandmixer DST on stage with Herbie Hancock. With his new found love for hip-hop and his foray into the art of scratching, Mike got involved in the mobile DJ business. Entering Dj competitions, rocking house parties, weddings and all those other "cutting the chops" type of gigs for experience and exposure. It was at one of those parties that he met Richard Quitevis, better known as Q-Bert. Q-Bert wasn't a DJ at the time, but was so impressed with Mike’s scratching technique that it had the same effect on him as watching Grandmixer DST had for Mike. The following day, Richard went over to Mike's to watch him practice and it was there that the two quickly became friends. In 1992, Mike was the first West Coast DJ to become World Champion by winning the New Music Seminar DJ Battle for World Supremacy in New York City. That same year, Mike, DJ Apollo and Q-Bert, known as the first ever scratch band, won the DMC World title. GRAND WIZARD THEODORE One of early hip-hop's most skilled DJs, Grand Wizard Theodore is universally acknowledged as the inventor of the scratch. Grandmaster Flash pioneered many early turntable techniques, including "cutting" records (manually cueing up duplicate copies of the same record in order to play the same passage, cutting back and forth between them), but it was the young Theodore who built on Flash's work by taking the scratching sound made when the records were cued, and adding a rhythm that made the turntable into a percussion instrument the DJ could "play." Theodore is also credited with pioneering the needle drop, a technique where, instead of cueing up the record silently, the DJ simply drops the needle onto the exact start of the passage to be played. KC ROBERTS & THE LIVE REVOLUTION After their set at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival in 2012, Artistic Director Josh Grossman called KCLR “scary good…a blast to hear and just as fun to watch.” In September 2013, NOW Magazine listed KCLR as one of Toronto’s 10 Local Buzz Bands Set to Break Big. And on October 15th, 2013 KCLR will release their fourth record, one that lives up to the buzz generated by their live performances. SPLATTERMONKEY Splattermonkey, the funky vinyl junky, is a vintage music master! He started spinning records in 2003 and has been rapidly making his way through the ranks as one of the funkiest D.J.‘s in Toronto. Known for his expansive knowledge of classic 50's and 60's music, this man never stops digging for vinyl all over Southern Ontario and America’s Midwest and is the mastermind behind Toronto's only all vinyl vintage R&B party, Shindig! He scratches and mixes 7 " 45 rpm records together from all eras of Rock n' Roll, Jazz, Funk, Soul, and Rhythm & Blues is guaranteed to move your butt and Grandma's too!
