  2. #Afrobeat Legend #FemiKuti @ #TheOperaHouse Tuesday April 19th http://on.fb.me/hxmmR7 @addthis @fusicology @soundsofafrica @LiveNationON FEMI KUTI & THE POSITIVE FORCE TUESDAY, APRIL 19th, 2011 THE OPERA HOUSE – TORONTO Doors: 7:30PM Show: 8:30PM ...Those who have followed his career and have experienced his music know this for a fact: Femi Kuti never felt just satisfied with being the King’s heir. He freed himself from his father’s legacy in ’85 by putting together his own band, The Positive Force, and thereby working to find his own voice. He became, during the ’90s, a renowned artist in his own right with a distinctive, colorful and balanced style. More than just a simple musician, the 48-year old composer and oldest son of legendary afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has become a true African Ambassador, in its most honorable sense. His records tell the story: After a short spell at Motown, he took on the afrobeat sound with his first international album in 1998, Shoki Shoki, before rubbing shoulders with the modern urban style of his American peers such as Mos Def and Common on the 2001 album Fight To Win. Returning to Lagos he worked on rebuilding the new Shrine and released an unbelievable live project recorded in the heat of the moment in his own venue (Live at the Shrine, MK2 / 2004). Finally his first studio record only came about in 2008, having found inspiration in Paris. This unanimously celebrated release, Day By Day was his most successful one. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes to The Opera House on April 19th to experience the afrobeat legend that is Femi Kuti.

Long-time Canadian touring reggae-outfit House of David Gang bring their special Bob Marley Tribute to the National Capital in celebration of 4:20, bringing the party from Parliament Hill to Barrymore's Music Hall to keep the celebration going all night. House of David Gang www.houseofdavidgang.com Now featuring a new generation of talented artists alongside founding members King Selah and Collin "Jahlin" Edwards, House of David Gang is Canada's busiest touring reggae band. Rooted in the timeless tradition of Jamaican roots reggae from the 70s and early 80s as embodied by the immortal Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer; House of David Gang adds a potent mix of jazz, funk and afrobeat to create a true global reggae orchestra. The House of David Gang takes its name from the legendary House of David afterhours on Queen Street West in Toronto, where King Selah, Jahlin and other artists from the city's burgeoning reggae scene would meet to jam until sunrise. Over the years, members have included players from essential Toronto reggae bands such as the Resinators, Explorer Band, Revelation, Selassie I Power and many more. Today, some of the Canada's finest reggae musicians & vocalists, such as 2-time Juno nominee Jason Wilson, 2011 Juno nominee Tonya P and Michael Garrick, often take the stage as special guests along side Selah (vocals), Jahlin (drums), Jay Cleary (guitar), Snappy Homefry (bass) and Todd Britton (keys). In the last several years, "The Gang" has been one of Canada's busiest touring reggae bands. Their annual Bob Marley Birthday Tribute and Food Drive tour has become a staple of the winter music calendar across Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. In Toronto, hundreds of reggae lovers come out for their springtime Original Wailers Showcase and Peter Tosh Tribute. House of David Gang has performed in front of thousands at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival, Atlantic Jazz Festival, Evolve Festival, Nufunk Festival, The Word On The Street, Ottawa Reggaefest, Toronto Freedom Festival, and more. Now, House of David Gang proudly releases its new single "Reggae Party". This King Selah original pays homage to the great reggae vinyl tradition, capturing the band's warmth, energy and passion for roots reggae as it was meant to be heard. On the flip side is "Right Now" by fellow Toronto roots rockers Friendlyness & The Human Rights.

We're working on our debut album "Three the Hard Way" - so far we are releasing our debut single "Reggae Party" this weekend at the Rivoli. The band features Snappy Homefry on Bass (of Chameleon Project), Todd Britton (formerly of Sling n The Stone), Jahlin Edwards, King Selah and me. 14. I saw Darren in Conspirator last month in NYC, he really killed it along with the guys from Conspirator. Jamie is a genius of the keyboards works behind the scenes as a composer/producer and Dan plays in Dragonette with his wife and lives (on the road touring the world) and in the UK. I highly doubt that any of these guys will ever stop playing music, each member has developed their own highly developed other music side projects. I'm looking forward to sharing in one of final hurrahs, but yes it is still sad to hear they're over, they are really a great band and I know they really get a lot of praise in developing the live electronica / jamtronica scene in the US by bands such as Disco Biscuits, Soundtribe Sector Nine, Pnuma Trio, Lotus etc... Big ups to a Toronto band for all their success.
