  1. Everyone in southwestern ontario had better get their asses to the bacchus lounge in london ontario because Gruvasylum is gonna blow the crowd to bits...is a good, kind way...

definitely a good show if you like mushrooms..

the show should start at 10

  2. you'd better all get your asses to frontier town.

it's my birthday weekend...if the jambus fell through for the best new year's trip ever(well i missed big cypress...maybe 2nd best new year's) i would hope we could get people planned to go to ghost town.

i'm trying to get people together...not planning yet, but just keep it in the back of your minds...t book off work and let friends know abotu the awesome weekend it'll be.

  3. Wow. It was my first New Deal show and it was fabulous. I danced like a fool and enjoyed 8.50 pitchers. I met up with boogie_knight and enjoyed a 'what should we do' sort of after show pre-party...split ways and I ended up at a friend's house and didn't go to class today. and it was my long day...tomorrow is engineering lab...We got some new toys and I can hopefully figure out what I'm going to do with my studio partner...any ideas for a style of tune?

i'm thinking acoustic guitar, bass, and percussion...it should be alright.

I might work on a song i'm in the middle of...

what does everyone think sounds good...now i mean timbres and textures and dynamics...If you listen to music as much as you seem to you'll be able to describe what you hear and like and are moved by...like a description of reverb on a vocal...long deep reverb swell with little repeat...or thumb plucked bass through chorus...or get creatively descriptive and explain it in layman's terms...try to describe 'thick air'...anyhow, the new deal show gave me a few ideas to dynamics that I could never place...great show, great time, great day!

looking very forward to GRUVASYLUM - everyone go see these guys. Brownman on trumpet...this dude uses envelope filter and octave tastefully and very well...He's throwing in new suprises every show...and the bassist, mark rogers(i think) brings a different bass along with his 7 string every week...nice gear and awesome player. everybody check it out. worth every penny and more...so have a drink and enjoy the show!

  4. It'll be MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND...as well as that of giggles and his ever so beautiful sister.

I hope everyone that knows me by name or moniker or aesthetics shows up and parties with myself and about a thousand hippies and bikers.

if we get there early enough we can claim the patch of land we got last year...well i'll be getting a more wooded lot but you guys can get the sanctuary again.

  5. why am i always the target of vegetable persecution...leave giggles out of this...

...I think davey boy should get out the mop and make sure his friend gets enough iron in his/her diet.

    that and some immodium/gravol/salt peter

  6. I've got characters going to my place...i dont' know if i'll be going to another place before - ie drinky drinky...but i'll try to give you a call...if a pre show jam is in effect, my place could be utilized...not too much space but it's totally allowed...no neighbours that bug us...i'm in a house.

just a thought...I think we'll bump into boogie_knight at the show too...another londoner on the sanctuary.

anyhow, i'll have to see what plans consist of...

  7. why does it take an advice columnist to make people realize really simple, obvious answers??

I've been dating a guy for almost two years. We recently split because of his mother and his ex-girlfriend, who he was with for 12 years.

His ex-girlfriend lives in an apartment in his mother's house. This girl and her new boyfriend are "regulars" at family gatherings and even use the family vacation home! My boyfriend insists that his ex-girlfriend is a "member of the family" and "just a friend." My boyfriend's mother, who knows I don't approve, invites this girl to family gatherings knowing that I refuse to come if his ex-girlfriend is invited.

It's her right to invite whomever she cares to, but I feel that it's an insult to me for her to invite this girl now that I'm a part of her son's life. I was left alone on Christmas because I refused to take part of their family gathering knowing this girl would be there. Part of me feels that my boyfriend has been brainwashed by his mother into believing that this situation is OK. Any suggestions?

    He's My Man Now

I have one suggestion: Grow the fuck up.

You may be a part of your boyfriend's life, but his ex was a part of his life - and, by extension, his mother's life - for 12 years. So when your boyfriend tells you his ex is a member of his family he's not feeding you some line of shit. After 12 years, his ex is a member of the family, you dolt. And if you want to be a member of his family, you're going to have to accept her presence.

Being around people you don't necessarily like is the price we all pay at holidays for having families. Asking your boyfriend's mother to be exclude (or evict) someone she's known and loved for 12 years, someone with whom she has a relationship independent of her son, all because her son is seeing someone who's manipulative and insecure isn't going to endear you to anyone. Given the choice between her son's pleasant ex-girlfriend and the manipulative, insecure little bitch he's dating now, your boyfriend's mother is going to chose the ex every time.

You obviously don't know a good thing when you've got it. Any sane person would be anxious to be part of family that doesn't turn its back on in-laws when a relationship doesn't work out. Your boyfriend's family sounds healthy and well adjusted. If that's not to your taste, there are plenty of guys out there with unhealthy, fucked-up families that might be more to your liking.

  8. I wish we got stuff like that here in London...no cool as hell jazz music...the jazz /classical store is an abomination, and the music scene definitely need to be centered.

I really want to get a collective going but have no clue how to get it up. anyone with ideas get back.

  9. okay - everyone going to the show that wants to party, let me know what'sw going on...I could have people over to my place but no stereo...in my room but that's not cool at all.

    my number's 670.2575 or 672.6112

198 cromwell street...west off richmond in between cheapside and grosvenor...first red brick house on the right from richmond...so now everyone knows where I live...southwest corner of the second floor is my room...if anyone's ever by the house and nobody answers the door , throw a snowball at my window.

anyhow, cheers to you all. I hope tND is gonna rule.

  10. Hey Giggles...you'll be getting a very special kosher pickle - you know the giany phallic green mountainous pickles you get at delis?? Yeah - well you'll be getting one of those shoved up your ass if i don't get my volume pedal soon...

it was just so 'convenient' for you to stay away from me until after i'd left...

    *grumble*

  11. So it was pretty amazing...last night at the Bacchus lounge there was a SUPER LONG LINE to se Jomomma.

like an hour long line...I luckily got in early and had a wicked time...not too drunk but not parched either.

It was nice to see everybody...Scottieking and crew - wasn't it an awesome time?

If you don't know already, everyone, scottieking is the ultimate catalyst for parties...he makes them happen...like before tND perhaps?

anyhow, After the show, I met up with the boys and we went back to their hotel and chilled, listening to digital satellite radio and had a decent time...I must say, Casey's for breakfast-lunch is a definite must...hot chicken sandwiches rule...best one I've ever eaten...

Anyhow, the night was fun, loads of beautiful people showed to groove, and the place was as packed as it deserved to be.

I hope it's just as great for Gruvasylum NEXT saturday.

I really hope I can get out to the Jomomma/Nero show in waterloo february 6th...Anyone in London willing to drive a carload of characters see magic happen??

I wonder if it's possible that there could be interweaving sets much like New year's eve...aah the chestnut...too bad the power blew on the recorder...everyone deserves to hear that show it was so good.

    Next time, battery backup, boys??

Anyhow, good times are so often had...i'm just happy to have been there.

  12. I think it is true that we have more musical knowledge than most people tend to give us credit for...but we're all over the subculture...not all over what makes money - and we'll never get past the crappy poppy catchy shit that the general population easts up just like a stupid little puppy eats his own fecal matter...I've seen it...the culture creates fashion and stereotypes and poor ethics and it's all regurgitated by the popular media, only to be eaten up again by the majority of the population, each time with less nutrituinal value. Every one of us should have jobs working for the entertainment sections of the media, specializing in music, but we don't. i'm in school, most of you guys and girls have jobs not relating to entertainment(i would assume) - it's our passion and it's generally dismissed by the big wheels that turn a profit. The real problem isn't with the writers it's with the people that hire the writers, the music industry, the mass media, and everyone in between for not speaking up and demanding a better product. Most people get psychological release through vacations and interaction with people...we do that too, but we get release through our music too - which can't really be said for too many other genres of fans. Problems could also be traced back to parents that don't care about what their kids are listening to...not neccessarily lyrical content, but musical content. Also, educators don't stress the merits of being well rounded people having well rounded minds and good imaginations. I know I suffer from being a nimrod sometimes, feeling all blah and unimaginative but then I put on a great piece of musical genuis and I'm happy again...it's unfortunate that more people can't get the release that we can and it should really be our jobs to get it to the public.

too bad we don't all live in my dreamworld...

  13. alkaline - big sugar remixing their songs dubwise

inner circle/fatman riddim section - heavyweight dub/killer dub

chicago underground duo - 12 degrees of freedom(post rock meets free jazz(very chicago style))

charlie haden/egberto gismonti(avant garde jazz) in montreal

ron carter - when skies are grey (jazz)

I know this was for acid jazz/electronica but if you get a chance give these albums a listen for a DIFFERENT chillout experience.

  14. korn does not have the lasting impression deserved to be on a list like that...and fela kuti is an african musician. very influential across the pond and to many musicians in the states...

anyhoo, these lists do kinda suck, as they can't be objective, as there are too many factors to think of - especially with today's splintered music market.

  15. it's thursday afternoon and around 4:20 - nobody's gotten to me looking for tickets...if i dont' get numbers i'm just getting a few for myself and some friends.

let me know how many tickets you want because this show will sell out - i dost thinketh...

    anyhow, email me at ro3@hotmail.com

if you wanna gamble, i'[m still up for getting together before the show...now hurry up and get back to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. The show is fast approaching and I need numbers soon. The show is open to non fanshawe characters and tickets are 6 bucks.

everyone can get together at my place for a big old predrink or smokie smokie...actually it would be best to do that outside unless there's only a few people...but saying 'hey let's go up to my room' seems so highschool -

so get me numbers of tickets by friday and i'll get them.

email me at ro3@hotmail.com if you have any details...if people want to go out for dinner it could be great. my classes end at 3 tuesdays so loads of time before the show. I don't know if there's an afterparty but there very well could be. I don't know what my friend heidi has in mind.

Anyhow, get to me if you're interested in going to the london show and let me know how many tickets you want...remember...you tell me you want 10 tickets and you only get 2 i'm sure people will still want them at the door...but as a student it's important to conserve cash...after all i'm seeing jomomma at bacchus lounge on the 12th and gruvasylum at bacchus on the 19th - everyone that can please go to the gruvasylum show in london - those guys love playing london and i would assume the show here is a bit different than in toronto or elsewhere.

the new deal is playing fanshawe's forwell hall...a big room - i hope tND get it really fun-kay in there.

    cheers!

  17. i love seeing those guys...but i'm always a buit let down when they never take their groove to the nevt level...definitely not a band that is up for forging new musical tools on the stage.

it's too bad...the band is so great and they never let themselves show it like they could. I'd email them or write them but that would be really rude. they're all busy and that's one more thing they don't need...some college student with criticism...Oh well. I guess i'll just have to see gruvasylum, jomomma, and the new deal this month to ease my suffering...anyone going to galactic on the 5th?

i'm really thinking about it. I hope people go.

i don't want to be the only one there that I know. I'd feel almost selfish...like i was the only one that could be there...anyhow, cheers. i'm off to class.
