  3. [blurb]DIESEL DOG NEW STUDIO ALBUM, YEAR OF THE DOG WITH TWO CD RELEASE PARTIES TO SUPPORT Diesel Dog is about to release its second full-length studio CD, Year of the Dog. Recorded and produced by the band, the disc contains 11 well-crafted original songs from a range of musical genres including roots rock, reggae, ska, bluegrass, psychedelia, and electronica.[/blurb] Diesel Dog put a lot of time and energy into this recording over the past year. Many of the songs were played and fine-tuned at live shows before the band entered the studio. The disc features a number of talented guest musicians whose contributions augment the band’s solid, multi-layered approach. The highly regarded Steve Major from Wellesley Studios was brought on board to mix and master the recording. The result is a collection of polished, catchy songs that sound better with each listen. Diesel Dog will be supporting its release of Year of the Dog with two special CD release shows: CD Release Party #1 Saturday, April 7th The Lancaster House Tavern (upstairs) 574 Lancaster St. W., Kitchener $5 or $15 with CD 10:30 p.m. 19+ CD Release Party #2 Friday, April 13th The Pepper Jack Café 38 King William St., Hamilton with special opening act Doug Feaver $6 or $16 with CD 10:30 p.m. 19+ Diesel Dog will be joined by guest musicians at both shows, including Bobby Banks (sax player from The Shoeshine Boys), and Darren Schott (former fiddle player for The Good Brothers), both of whom appear on Year of the Dog. The band is working hard to ensure that these two shows are extra-special ones!
  4. Big birthday hugs to you Deb! Peace, Mark
  5. Ditto on this thought ... I was thinking last night in the middle of the show that a keyboard player would blow things through the roof! And two kits would be nice. Heck, Tim's got four limbs, just have him play drums and keys at the same time! Peace, Mark
  6. This show will undoubtedly be a blast. The band put lots of time and energy into the new cd, and what I've heard sounds fantastic! Hopefully people will step up and support the band by coming out to their upcoming run of shows and by purchasing the disc. Peace, Mark
  7. A fun show last night, in a nice live music venue which caters mainly to a hard rock crowd I think. A big stage, big sound and lights, and a great video projection system which came in handy as Rose Garland supplied some sweet video to go along with their show. It would be a really good spot for a show that could draw 300 or 400 people ... I'm not sure of the capacity of the place, but it's got to be at least that. Once again I was impressed with Rose Garland. Yes they are a cover band and they play nothing but The Dead, but they do it well. Lots of solid vocals and musicianship. Aaron (drummer) has an excellent "Jerry voice" and Dave M. (lead guitar player) shreds. Peace, Mark
  8. Yes, but I read somewhere that everybody's pee smells from eating asparagus, but that only some of us have the ability to smell it. I'm not sure if this is true or not. I guess a bunch of us will have to "hang out" together to find out. I'm having asparagus tonight ... Peace, Mark
  9. I think that a carload or two of people from KW will be headin' down the 401 for this show. Peace, Mark
  10. Edger has nailed it. Shortly after Marcel died, we (Harvard Mouse) discussed the idea of doing something like this, but enough time hadn't passed for us to even think about pulling it off without turning into emotional, blubbering messes. Daveymouse finally decided to get the ball rolling and has put this show together, and edger's post captures what the show is about. Not that there won't be any moments of "emotional blubbery messiness" but we really want this show to be one good party to celebrate life, live music and friendship the way that Marcel would have wanted us to. We (Harvard Mouse) are glad that Fat Cats have agreed to join us for this show. Marcel was a big Fat Cats fan, from way back. The date itself is not an "anniversary date" or Marcel's birthdate or anything like that, it's just a date that works for the people involved who want to make this happen. Peace, Mark
  11. Thanks for taking the time to share Jeff ... an enjoyable read. I'm glad that you had the opportunity to participate in SXSW, as you deserve it! Peace, Mark
  12. April is a packed month for shows, including some special ones that will be happening at The Lanc in Kitchener. Saturday April 7 Diesel Dog CD Release Party Saturday April 21 Rose Garland Saturday April 28 Fat Cats & Harvard Mouse "Marcel Memorial Celebration" Peace, Mark
  13. I enjoyed this video ... thanks for the email about it timouse, and for pointing out the following two quotes from it, both of which made me laugh when I heard them: "I smoke like an East German industrial zone." "I used to worry about acid flashbacks - now I worry about acid reflux." Peace, Mark
  14. Sad to say that I missed this show! After getting up early on Saturday morning, and then having a full day, I decided that the only way I was going to make it to and enjoy the Jomomma show was to have a "power nap" beforehand. So I put my head down at around 9:30 p.m., for an hour. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to go, the only problem being that it was 2:30 a.m.! Wow, I must have been tired. Once the realization set in, I decided to put my head back down for some more sleep. Bummer I missed the show, but on the bright side, at least I'm not spending today with a hangover and a lack of sleep. Peace, Mark
  15. Saturday March 24th I was talking with Chuck (dark_starr) about this show and it sounds like a cool place for a concert, with a big stage, big sound and lights. He's hoping to fill the place with as many heads and jam fans as possible, with the hope that it will lead to more. Lots of free tickets are available for this show, so this is a great opportunity to get a dose of heady deadness ... Peace, Mark
  16. You can walk from the downtown bus station to the Boathouse in under 10 minutes, it's that close. Time to find my skates ... Peace, Mark
  17. A great list of shows kc! Peace, Mark
  18. Just say no to drugs, so Trey's in trouble, as is Popper for the marijuana, but Popper will likely get a free lifetime membership to the NRA for the discovery of his weapons cache. And the scary thing is, I'm not even sure if the above sentence should be in purple ... Peace, Mark

What I know so far: I am almost positive that it is at Frontier Ghost Town again this year, although I am still waiting to hear back from Mark Wilson for a 100% confirmation on this. Lucas Stagg will be hosting the acoustic stage this year. He has lined up lots of great acoustic talent for Saturday and Sunday ... specifics will be coming out shortly. I have heard nothing yet from Mark Wilson about any bands that have been confirmed, although I know he's been working on it. I'll keep asking him for some info. I wish I could provide more info, but that's all I know at this point. Peace, Mark
  20. If I'm in KW on Saturday night I'll be checkin' this out. It looks like a very cool event, with lots of solid musicians and bands. Peace, Mark
  21. Looking forward to some Diesel Dog ... it's been a while! This Friday March 9 at the Victoria Park Boathouse in Kitchener. Does anyone know what time the band will start playing? Peace, Mark
  22. Ouch! Wishing you a speedy recovery Deb. Peace, Mark
  23. Hey Hal, I'm not sure how this would have happened, but I'm glad you got in for free and enjoyed the show so much. So do you want the tickets for tonight? Does anyone else? I've never had such a hard time getting rid of tickets. Here is the last sentence of this past Thursday's article about him that appeared in The Record's Nightlife section: "But such credentials make him one of the most significant - if not the most significant - Canadian guitarists in music today." Peace, Mark
  24. HJ - not sure about alcohol at the theatre. HJ or MW - let me know if you want the tix as they are still available. Peace, Mark
