  1. Has anybody listened to the songs that are up on myspace for the band Molasses Run? I've never seen the band, but they sound hot! Peace, Mark
  2. I wish I could be there to party one last time with Willy before he becomes a parent, but parental duty calls. I wish I could be there to party with Mark C. and Caution Jam in Browntown, but my final Crissinger Caution Jam show will have to wait until next Saturday night at the Come Together Fest. Have a blast tonight everyone! Peace, Mark
  3. DEM, thank you for the kind words. Booche, I popped a boner reading this: Seriously, thank you for the thoughtful words. Peace, Mark
  4. Diesel Doug makes a post that includes the following statement: "People always come back to improv. because it's the only sincere form of music. All other music is somewhat contrived or pre-meditated resulting in a lack of truth." People respond to his statement with the following comments: "I think I'm going to be sick." "I was just making an extreme generalization to an asinine comment by DieselDog." "That's completely ridiculous. And that's the truth." Then Diesel Doug replies with some comments that aren't very nice, and people reply to those comments with comments that aren't very nice, and then people comment on the comments with other comments, some of which are nice and some of which are not so nice, and then somebody starts another thread ... wow, sometimes I just shake my head! I am all for expressing opinions, but it's ok to be tactful when doing so! It's no wonder that some people have decided not to post on this board after reading threads like this one. OK, maybe Diesel Doug was generalizing and overstating things with his initial post. He's a friendly and exciteable guy who loves to bounce ideas around. Having said that, I have a huge amount of respect for his comments about music, given that he is a musician who plays in a band that improvises and jams, and given that he is a musician with a background in recording engineering who is very familiar with writing, recording and producing songs that are contrived. I also have a huge amount of respect for others that posted to this thread, including the people that posted the comments quoted above in response to Diesel Doug. Just a friendly reminder to people to play nicely in the sandbox. Sorry for trying to be so positive, but come on people, enough is enough. It's ok to disagree and challenge people, but there is no need to be nasty about it. Peace, Mark
  5. Once again, I'm reminded of the fact that message boards have significant limitations as a communication tool, and as a result, things can spin out in a negative way. Hopefully things can be resolved positively between the parties involved. I think that it's an excellent disc, and it's nice to read that you are enjoying it Pablo. It's well-produced, and it contains a bunch of catchy songs that are relatively short and stripped of long jams, which is somewhat ironic given what has been said in this thread, and even more ironic given that Diesel Doug played a huge part in the recording, engineering, and production of the disc. Peace, Mark
  6. Loathe or long? Given what I know of secondtube and his musical tastes, I'm thinking it's a longing ... Peace, Mark
  7. Wow, it's hard to believe that the May long weekend is less than two weeks away! I'm heading to Ghost Town, but can't make it until the Saturday. Fingers and toes crossed for more of this awesome weather that we've been having. Two bands that are new to the festival that I'll be checking out ... The Droops, who are making waves in KW, and Molasses Run. Remember the band Jukejoint? The drummer from that band, Dave Patel, is in Molasses Run. He's an excellent drummer, and from what I can tell, the band Molasses Run is going to lay down some jazzy, funky, groovy music. Peace, Mark
  8. I agree ... I enjoyed reading the book because of Phil's perspective on things. Peace, Mark
  9. Thanks for the wonderful celbration party Scot & Becky. Wishing you both a lifetime together filled with good health, love & happiness. Peace, Mark
  10. Way to go LM ... congrats! Peace, Mark
  11. Bumping this one to the top for Tigger and Becky ... looking forward to a fun night on Friday! Peace, Mark
  12. It sounds like it was a great show! I'm glad things went well. That's one of the things I love about Diesel Dog, they play music that is accessible yet original and it hooks many types of music listeners (pun intended). I'm sure Madgrass was also lots of fun ... I liked what I heard from them when they played at the last FUNdraiser show. Peace, Mark
  13. Huge appreciation for Dave Scully on this end. He's an extremely caring, thoughtful and intelligent man who I've been fortunate enough to share many special moments with, musical and otherwise. And there's no doubt about it, Deb knows how to fire up a party! She was in fine form at the Marcel Memorial show during the draw for door prizes to raise money for the Heart and Sroke foundation. Peace, Mark
  14. What a special night in honour of Marcel ... thanks to Daveymouse for putting this show on! And the words that you spoke about Marcel during the show were perfect! To my musical mousey friends ... we rocked! ... Marcel would have had an huge grin on his face listening to that set of music happen ... I remember having a "Marcel thought" during pretty much every song that we played ... I love the man and he will be missed in a big way. To the Fatties ... thank you! Great grooves, some nice-sounding new material, and a perfect Brokedown Palace encore, especially with the botched lyrics! Marcel would have loved it, as it (the forgotten lyrics) happened at so many of our jams over the years. Thanks to Organic Groove for laying down some infectious drum rhythms during the set break. And thanks to everyone else who came to help out at the door, record, provide food and prizes, dance, and most importantly, party in Marcel's honour. Peace, Mark
  15. I think I've got it covered. Looking forward to tonight! Peace, Mark
  16. Ithaca Mayor Carolyn Peterson for president!
  17. Fingers and toes crossed that I can be there! Peace, Mark
  18. Ditto. Ditto ... again. Peace, Mark
  19. Wow, this looks like it has the potential to be a fantastic event! Peace, Mark
  20. Hey there Scotty Scot Scotster, looking forward to celebrating with you and Becky on Friday May 4 at the Walper in Kitchener! Peace, Mark
  21. Time to bump this thread, as the party for Marcel is next Saturday night. We (Harvard Mouse) have come up with a set list filled with songs that bring back special memories of Marcel for us. Given how close Marcel was to each of us, the initial list was quite long, so we've scaled it back and have asked the Fatties to play a few of Marcel's favourites as well. Harvard Mouse at 9 pm, Organic Groove at 10:45, Fat Cats at 11:30. Peace, Mark
  22. I wasn't at the Toronto show, but I was impressed with UM in Buffalo. And it's an excellent bar/club venue ... great sight lines and sweet sound. There was a huge amount of energy in the room. UM also announced at the show that they will be playing in downtown Buffalo at one of the free Thursday at the Square shows ... I think they are playing the first one on Thur. May 31. Peace, Mark
  23. What a great lineup ... huge! I know that at times you Ottawa peeps miss some of what comes to southern Ontario, but WOW, Bluesfest looks amazing this year! Peace, Mark
