  1. I've had my camera confiscated before at the Amphitheatre, but it's easy to get back after the show.

    the 100-mile diet

I believe I'll be going this diet in the near future. It's an excellent idea for a diet.
  3. I'd say they hit the stage at 9:00, but I wouldn't drag your feet on this one. Also, the opener is good.
  4. Barring any sort of mishap, this Thursday I will be sitting with a few friends at the Wheat Sheaf - at the corner of King and Bathurst - between 5:30-7:30. I kinda want to catch the opening act, or at least wander around while he's playing.
  5. I didn't here exerpts from the conversation. That Flyer team is getting scary looking on paper. Getting Smith on defense should not be overlooked. I love that mean S.O.B.
  6. I just woke up when I posted that. Damn it. I knew he was a +22 when the fog lifted. I can't believe Briere turned down a plea from Jean Beliveau.
  7. Although his plus/minus is improving in his later career. He was a +8 last year on an excellent Calgary defense.
  8. I found admitting to an Elephant bias a little strange. I have a bias towards De Stijl, blues covers and the first album, but I'd never go into a Stripes concert wishing for any set of songs.
  9. I believe he's opening. I listened to some of his songs on MySpace last night and was really impressed. I can see why he was chosen to open for The Stripes.

    Transformers

I was too old to enjoy the cartoon when it was originally on TV and only have a passing interest in seeing this, although I'm shocked that noted hack director Michael Bay is getting good reviews. Spielberg doesn't normally invest in bad films either.
  11. Dickey was terrible in 2003. He got outplayed by his son too.
  12. Dickey does seem to be playing well on his own. Too bad he did't keep his shit together or have the foresight to see that he could get fired.
  13. Hey, I'm not saying the Allmans aren't sounding great without Dickey, but they just aren't nearly as authentic anymore. I understand why Dickey was fired and I can't argue with it too much: Listen to how Derek kicks his ass on the last Dickey/Allmans album: "Peakin' At The Beacon". I'm just saying that longtime fans and even new fans just discovering the band may feel confused and/or cheated. A big part of why the Allmans "got boring" in the late 90's (Betts was fired this decade) was that they didn't realease any new studio albums, which reflected on their subsequent unimaginative and stale set lists. The second best era and incarnation of the band was with Allen Woody and Warren, and back then, the Allmans released a lot of good studio albums.
  14. I've never been a big Hip fan even though I'm from Kingston. But I must admit, they have written a handful of some of the best Canadian pop-rock songs, Bobcaygeon, Ahead By A Century and Wheat Kings being at the top of the list.
  15. Here's the Whitehorse setlist: 01. Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground 02. When I Hear My Name 03. Jolene 04. Hotel Yorba 05. I'm Finding It Harder To Be A Gentleman 06. I'm Slowly Turning Into You 07. Death Letter 08. Cannon 09. Ball And Biscuit 10. A Martyr For My Love For You 11. The Union Forever 12. The Same Boy You've Always Known 13. We're Going To Be Friends 14. Hello Operator 15. In The Cold, Cold Night 16. Wasting My Time 17. Astro 18. Jack The Ripper 19. (encore break) 20. Blue Orchid 21. Icky Thump 22. Little Ghost 23. I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself 24. Truth Doesn't Make A Noise 25. You've Got Her In Your Pocket 26. The Denial Twist 27. Seven Nation Army
  16. Call me a cynic, but fans cannot lose sight in the significance of the loss of Dickey, even with the release of the mostly excellent "Hittin' The Note". There's only so far you can play his signature songs and guitar parts and get away with it. Losing Dickey is far more damaging (but comparable) than the disasterous albums and various lineup change fiascos of the late 70's and early 80's.
  17. Over 920,000 tickets have been sold as of today and the organizers think that they'll break the 1.1 million record from Mexico City in 1983, especially if Canada does well.

    S. Ont peeps

I have to work, but this is a terrific night of blues: FRIDAY, JULY 13 DOORS OPEN AT 5:30 PM $29 9:45PM LOS LOBOS 8:20PM PAT TRAVERS 7:00PM SAVOY BROWN 6:00PM L'IL DOC MACLEAN
  19. I'm finding myself liking the enforcer vs. enforcer fight less and less (to the point of not wanting to see it occur at all) and the spontaneous scraps ones more and more. At least the latter ones make sense in a heat of the moment context.
  20. The only way the NHL can fly in Kansas City is IF, they get the corporate suits onboard with luxury boxes etc... well ahead of the drop of the puck. Don't forget KC has an NFL team, so it ain't a lot different than Nashville, and KC also has a big college basketball market to contend with.
  21. The biggest problem revenue-wise in Nashville is/was the total lack of corporate involvement, and I'm talking ZERO involvment. If the Preds had corporate interest, they wouldn't be up for sale.
  22. Hockey is like soccer in the sense that it's not about following the puck/ball. If you start keying-in on following the puck and/or ball, both games are not that easy to follow since there's far too much going on in other related aspects during live play.
  23. I am probably going to Egypt within the next three years. I'll pass along a "hello" from you to that obese, toothless cancer-ridden queen when I'm there.
  24. Since Egypt's rich historical past plays such an important role in their social identity, this discovery is very important. It's also important to history of the Middle East in general and it'also a big discovery for Egypt's tourism industry. So much of Egypt's past has been exploited by foreigners and looters over the centuries, it's great to hear about this exciting discovery.
  25. I love these posts. I think the concert reports are important. Keep 'em coming. I'm also thrilled that a crew is following the Stripes around on the Canadian tour for a future documentary. Like the band's music or not, the undertaking of this tour is hard not to admire.
