  1. Yes, that's what I'm saying. Thanks.
  2. My point being that she is a blues drummer and not a rock drummer. She is special because she inspires Jack to write songs. Meg is a bass drummer, and that she does well. And I knew you'd know blues drummers Alabama Man, but 99% of the music world does not, including me (off the top of my head).
  3. I love "Level" by The Raconteurs, but that's a different band with a different dynamic: Who-inspired bass and drum combo from The Greenhornes with two leaders on guitar and vocals. The Raconteurs are rock and roll. The Stripes are not like them at all and I'm glad about that.
  4. As tired as I am with people attacking Meg's lack of skill behind the kit, I'd say that she's really improved. Of course the band dynmaic ain't about her drumming, it's about how she inspires Jack to write and/or take the lead. Terry Bozzio would not be a good substitution for Meg. Anyway, Meg's more of a blues drummer and off the top of anyone's head, name me 5 blues drummers - and I mean real blues drummers, not rock-blues hybrids like John Bonham or Jim McCarty. What? You can't? Point made.
  5. The new White Stripes album is fantastic. It's a return of harder-edged rock, but has a few musical suprises thrown in, like a nice acoustic Irish ditty and a great jump blues tune. All the Zeppelin buzz is true in the best possible way. I'm going to review Icky later this week, but if I had to rank it (and I like all their wonderfully different albums very much), I'd put it somewhere between their second effort De Stijl and album #4, Elephant, which is good news to fans and the curious.
  6. I do recommend doing a little research on the Spanish Civil War before or after the movie. It was an interesting historical period.
  7. I was honoured to be a part of Sharon and Mike's ceremony and kick ass reception. I loved every minute of it. Thanks to Booche and Douglas for housing me up for the weekend. It was great meeting many people on the board and talking with newer and very very very old friends (see Davey Boy and Booche). I even enjoyed talking to Hux.
  8. I liked it a lot. It's not as great as its companion Devil's Backbone, but I liked the Spanish Civil War/fantastical mix. I thought the ending was really interesting too.
  9. What time is it on? I believe there's a big gap between the wedding and the reception and if the game is on in the afternoon, then we could be in business at a pub.
  10. I always watch the national team games when I can and I agree Davey. I've never seen them look this good.

    Toronto Pizza

I will check that place out since it's near my hood.
  12. I get all that. I was not "blown away" by the film. It's good, but not something that I'd buy and/or rave about.
  13. Stalteri is excellent and I agree Davey Boy that DeRosario is their best player.
  14. I like them too. Their first single "Lazy Eye" has some really cool Sonic Youth guitar driving it and the rest of the album is impressive sonically.
  15. Mike, get your freaking manuals out and check out the specs.
  16. I agree, and Canada was smoking good against Costa Rica. Four guys came to play against the French colony. We just ain't good enough to coast through games.
  17. Junior Brown is the most original and entertaining pedal-steel guitarist of the last 20 years.
  18. Sets with bulbs have their benefits. When a tube and/or plasma set goes, the set is useless. Also, DLP's won't get burn-in images. Bulb sets can literally last forever, but the bulb has to be replaced quicker on some models. I've had my DLP going on three years and the bulb is going strong even after heavy use from my wife.
  19. ... and I loved every f**king San Francisco c**ks**ker minute of Deadwood, then it's worth checking out Milch's new series, John From Cincinnati, premiering tonight on TMN. It's described as a surfing series that has nothing to do with surfing, but has weird and wild supernatural elements. I have to check this out. Bruce Greenwood, Rebecca DeMornay and Ed O'Neill star.
  20. I believe Mike has an older basic widescreen Toshiba rear-projection, HD ready.
  21. I own an old Harmon Kardon but it has all the essentials. To tell you the truth, Harmon Kardon's aren't as good as they used to be since box-stores started carrying them. HK used to be made in Germany, but now they are made in China. If I had to buy again, I'd look into NAD, Marantz and Nakamichi. You'll have to go to an independent store to find these systems. Curious, I'm assuming you are using an optical cable into your DVD player, correct?
