  1. BF better be pretty sweet this year. Last year several students of mine (we're talking teenagers here) chose to buy Jazzfest passes instead of Bluesfest passes. Depending on Wednesday's announcement the same thing could very well happen again.

From the tone of the article, possibly they have learned their lesson, but last year not going well was somebody else's fault (old fogeys who wouldn't get out of the way, likely).

  2. A few years ago, I was watching the Junos (for some reason) and they had a clip of Justin in the studio with Usher when he was much younger, just after Usher took him under his wing, and he actually sounded like a decent singer. I don't want to overstate the case, but I could at least hear why he got signed. I saw him after that on some reality show (it might have been Dancing With The Stars) where he was performing without lip synch or autotune, and he sounded full on dreadful.

I can't really say he is devoid of talent, because at one point in his life he did sound good (or at least competent). So this seems more of a case of either a) someone with talent who spent so long in the star making and studio machine that he didn't maintain the ability he once had, or B) (and this is the one I believe) someone who had basic vocal competence but was more concerned with being a star and didn't care enough about the musical side that they never kept up their initial ability.

  3. Actively pissing me off that these are being released in such limited amounts, so I miss out on it because I am the only one working right now. I already used up my GD allowance for a long time by getting their "limited edition" Europe 72 box, which they of course since made available to everyone.

  4. Leverage : Burn Notice meets Ocean's 11 meets The A-Team, very fun and I really enjoy the characters and actors

Justified : US Marshall returns to his Kentucky home town, super sharp scripts and Walton Goggins is Da Bomb

Homeland : gripping, intriguing, and Morena Baccarin is eye scorchingly hot

Community : keep the faith, baby

Parks & Recreation : the short first season was pretty rough, but once it became its own show it has always delivered the goods

Happy Endings : at first it seemed like yetanother Friends clone, but it has consistently been delivering the most laughs

  5. I am starting to completely hate Cersei, not as a villain but because she is a complete load. Sansa is 13 and is already a far better queen than her. Cersei has been worthless as a leader, and her reaction to a crisis situation is to get drunk and make everyone around her as miserable as possible.

  6. Former guitar player for Miles Davis. Amazing musician. If you ever get a chance to check out any of the 4 albums he did with Miles (Get Up With It, Dark Magus, Pangaea, Agharta), do so, they are awesome and Pete's playing is brilliant.

  7. It doesn't look like I will be able to get my usual full pass this year, so I am actually very happy to see this set list, as it looks like a good year for me to take off. I might go to Tedeschi-Trucks, but don't really feel like I am missing too much. Even Alice Cooper looks to be playing a shorter set earlier in the evening.

  8. If something on the menu is not available (at least a fairly main ingredient like one of the types of patties), it might be an idea for the server to inform people as they are taking their first order that it is off the menu. Of course, they could have run out some time after that point or it had not yet been communicated to the servers.

  9. I was always under the impression that the monkees didn't play any instruments.

They didn't play any instruments on their early recordings (they tried to incorporate more of their own playing later as they tried to take more control over their own career and recordings), but Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith came into the band as musicians and guitar players. Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz came in with acting backgrounds, although both could sing. As Dolenz did play some guitar, they were initially looking to have Jones be the drummer, but the producers realized he would have been too hard to see behind the drum kit (Davy Jones was a tiny, tiny man) so, at least for the purposes of the show, Dolenz became the drummer and Jones played maracas (Dolenz told the tale of being on tour with the Monkees and keeping his eyes locked on the back of Nesmith's heel in order to keep the tempo.)

And now you know more than you really needed to.
