We've been trying to rent a cottage this summer, waiting to hear back on a confirmation actually. I found a lot of private cottages through craigslist, under vacation rentals. http://toronto.craigslist.org/vac/ (I'm assuming Toronto craigslist is the closest to your desired location.)
