  1. OK then, you've never heard of QR5 I'm guessing...

Well, I've been into these guys for more than 10 years so they're definitely not brand new by any means but they have recently started playing more shows and getting a bit more in peoples faces rather than holing up in their studio.

Anyways, it's somewhat tough to describe what they are like but I would say that the folkie singer/songwriter thing is at the core but they are fusing some really neat reggae/ska type stuff which makes it more tough to categorize. All that I can really say is that if you are looking for a musical breath of fresh air, these guys are great to listen to, they are very original and that has always been the appeal for me.

    And, the shows:

  2. I would recommend that you have a listen to Dan Bern before you decide how excited you want to be about this one. I actually quite like Bernstein as he is known, but he is a real folkie and his style of songwriting is definitely not for everyone. Kind of like a male version of Ani Difranco though he is quite often likened to a new age Bob Dylan. Seen him a couple of times and it's quite entertaining but don't expect anything too mind blowing. Definitely will be fun to check out but it won't likely resemble The Slip much.

  3. ...story of my life...

-definitely the tall guy, not the one who stands at the back of the room though, and the sway thing is bang on too. I like to think of it as being genetically engineered for concert going. Could be the evolution of the concert goer too, my folks are both 5'4"...

Very accurate commentary, great find man!!!

  4. [blurb]I was just looking to find some info on the rumours portion of philzone.com regarding the Trey/Mike/Duo/Phil deal posted earlier, found another nice nugget of info...

"Rumors have been circulating for a while now that Phil & Ryan Adams have been doing some studio sessions together. [/blurb]While we don't have any details, we can confirm that they have done some collaborative work at Loho Studios in NYC as they are listed as recent clients."

    Fuckin' EH!!!

  6. Had to pull a little solo mission to Rochester last night to catch some Nickel Creek action. Admittedly not the greatest show, seemed like their monitors were fucked and Sarah was sick which is not the greatest combo at all. Pretty shit sound compared to the theatre type setting that these guys usually play in. You know that you're really in love with someone's music when the show isn't that hot but you still have a blast watching it all go down. Great acoustic encores though, very intimate and interactive so to speak. PACKED house too, a crowd that Kimock could only dream about drawing out on a Tuesday night. Anyways, I found some nice pics taken by some people that I met at the show that are well worth sharing...

  8. Howdy all!!!

Guess I must have had fun at the Lauzon/Sisters show a couple of weeks back as I ended up leaving my mic stand at Maverick's. Lost my shit in O-town would be the best way to put it I guess... They still have it there in the basement or the office or something like that, so I was wondering if someone could pick it up for me if you are going by or in for some schwill at some point. I'm not in a rush to get it, but would like for it to end up somewhere safe before it gets lost in the shuffle over there. They said that they would hold it for whomever comes to pick it up for Pete Lane.

I can offer a tasty onstage copy of the sisters show to anyone who would be kind enough to look after this for me. I'll make arrangements to get it back at a later date.
