  1. Well there goes the two songs I wanted to hear - "End of the Line" and "Loaded Dice" - both being predominantly sung by Warren. I guess Gregg could sing "End of the Line" without Warren, but I think it's unlikely. Man, I'm gonna miss the man! I've seen Jack before, great player, but nowhere near the charisma IMO, and yeah it'll be great to see him, but not at the cost of not seeing Warren. Somehow, seeing Derek, Warren and Oteil out front grinnin' feels like being at a family reunion...it's like there's no separation between the stage and the floor 'cuz everyone knows everyone (the big difference being that they're working I guess, but they look like they're having fun). I'm thinkin' with Jack rather than Warren, the vibe might not be quite so personal and intimate. With this in mind, I probably could've forsaken the pricey 100 level ticket and gone for the $11 ticket instead.

Oh well, they'll be great shows nonetheless, and maybe with my expectations slightly reduced, my pleasant surprise will be enhanced :)

All the best to Warren - hope all's well.

  2. I know I'd love to be pre-ABB frolicking at your place that afternoon, but I'll likely still be asleep from work the night before (unless I can somehow wangle out of that night too (I have the rest of the week off - yippee!))

  3. In for both...and anyone know whether JLC is a strictly sit-down venue ('cuz I'm gonna have a problem doing that)?

And Jaimoe, wouldn't you say Gregg Allman & Friends is a totally different band? When I saw them last winter at the Niagara Falls Casino in NY, it was with Robben Ford on guitar, Willie Weeks on bass, and Floyd Miles on vocals/percussion. I know what you mean though...but as long as the Brothers are playing, and not charging an arm and a leg for a ticket, I'll be going to see them...and loving them I hope!

  4. That was a stellar show - and wow, to witness that in a small intimate place like Pepper Jacks is a dream-come-true. Very special and memorable! Thanks especially to kc and briguy, and to anyone else who helped make it happen. And to have all my favourite people in the same place at once too just makes it all the better. Wish we could've made it to your place afterwards Alexis - thanks for the invite - but we got hopelessly lost and the highway showed up first - next time sweetie (I hope)!

As a footnote, afterward I saw the Col. exit the bus and head for the club, so I followed him to get him to sign some ARU and Fiji Mariners discs, and perhaps I put him on the spot, but I asked if he could guess my birthday, knowing that he apparently has an uncanny knack for this, and he did guess correctly Sagittarius, but 3 days shy of my birthday - not bad for just meeting me. Another interesting tidbit was that Jimmy mentioned that Tyler Greenwell, the drummer, was also the bus driver. Wow, that's a pretty hefty double-duty.

Anyway, thanks again everyone for making it live up to its "not-to-be-missed" show status!

  5. Hey Weirdness - How long was the Mule set? I was down on Saturday night for the DTB set at the canal, but after hanging with friends a good part of the night, we decided to blow off Mule since it seemed like it would only be an hour set, and I gotta get in to work now. Do you have a setlist too? Look forward to seeing you and GF tomorrow at MMW!! PS - I think it's New Rider's birthday (if he's in attendance), but I don't think he'll keep it a secret for long :)

  6. May see you guys down there. Can't imagine missing a KDTU show so close to home, but unfortunately I'd have to boot straight to work afterwards (and it's not one of those jobs where I can show up and nap all night - damn).

And hey, you forgot the free Derek Trucks Band show on June 25th and Mule on the 26th (same festival as MMW and Benevento/Russo).

Hope to see you there...I know where you'll be :)

  7. To one of my favourite fellow Motorhead fans (teehee), hope you have one hell of a happy birthday (and I hope I finally make it there to celebrate with you). By the way, do you see I finally found someone I wanted to quote?

  8. Huh??...why does that suck?? I love GA shows, and like the idea that somebody at HOB or somewhere thinks maybe "heads" are a chill enough group that we can take care of ourselves without security constantly shoving us back into our 2' x 2' space. What am I missing?

  9. Thanks Esau - I'd been wondering what they played. BTW, do ya think that's the same Stormy Monday the Brothers play? And, is it turning out to be a week of shows, or just a one-off? Let us know if you ever find a stream of the show eh?

And, BTW, where were you night of Motorhead - I was so hoping to see you there...:)

  10. In addition to the George Harrison tribute show on Friday at the El Mo, here's an email I got via Eric from Caution Jam for a possibility on Thursday at Free Times on College -

    "Hello Friends: Good Thursday!

Solstice and Cape Feff will be playing a double bill at the Free Times Cafe this Thursday night at 9:00 p.m.

Free Times is at 320 College Street between Bathurst and Spadina. I play in both acts and would love to see you if you can make it.

Style is original-meets-traditional: acoustic rural experimental pop on the rocks, with subtle tones of organic bluegrass jam, garnished with a hint of the blues for good measure.

Come out and have a great start to the long weekend!"

  11. I have the official commercial release that I think I managed to purchase when Jimmy was playing with Phil & Friends - I'd been looking for it and I think they had out a bunch of side project merch at that Finger Lakes show with Les Claypool opening back in the summer of 2001. I previously had a burned copy that a friend had made me just as a sampler, but my portable CD player got stolen out of my car last week with that copy and a bunch of unreplaceable demos in the case along with it...damn crackheads, wish they could've respected my addiction :(

    I love the Project Z CD though - it's so mind-blowingly good ::
