Im going home Donny
apparently there is a killer ska band from Montreal playing at Mavericks on Thursday or Friday night. Though I can't find it on google....smash planet or something like that?
bradm
I think you mean The Planet Smashers http://www.planetsmashers.net/ They're doing two shows on Thursday, Nov. 18, at Mavericks. The first is an all-ages show at 6pm, then a 19+ show at 10pm. Aloha, Brad
MamaPink
My brother loves these guys. I have never heard them myself, but he says if you like SKA... you'll like the planet smashers. Probably worth checking out!

StoneMtn
I discovered a really cool ska band recently. I know nothing about them, and I actually think its just one guy named "Juan". The band calls itself "Army of Juan". Awesome.
Guest Low Roller
Planet Smashers are a famous Canadian ska band. You want to see some ska, go see these guys. As far as the sleeze factor at reggae night, just don't go alone, and definitely don't go with a group of ladies. Then you're just asking for it. Super Freak
:: If that was for my blurb, just so you know, that was a lyric from a ska tune from the 80's, not a reference to anyone's legs(and/or face)...guess I thought someone would recognize the lyrics, sorry if anyone took that the wrong way...should have explained myself PS...If anyone can remember the name of the band that did "nice Legs" let me know, it's driving me batty that I can't remember...Paisley, do you remember??? bradm
A Google search for 'nice legs shame about the face' leads me to believe it was by Monks. Aloha, Brad

Im going home Donny
...anyone catch this? I went over after work to find there were 3 bands...first 2 being punk rock...didn't have enough ambition to stick it out. grabbed a couple first set drinkskies at reggae night instead...we left as the weapons/sleaze factor came pouring in for second set. Hux
I've seen some pretty shady behaviour at Babylon on reggae night - it really doesn't jive with the reggae vibe mon!....I think we can all agree it REALLY stinks when unnecessary violence happens at shows where it really doesn't belong. bradm
....I think we can all agree it REALLY stinks when unnecesary violence happens at shows where it really doesn't belong. At which shows does unncessary violance really belong? (And if it really belongs, is it still unncessary violence?) Aloha, Brad
Stapes
I caught this one last night. Lotsa fun. $12 cover was a bit steep for an hour long set though.
