Jay Funk Dawg
U.F.Productions, 360 Degrees and NLE present... The Benevento Russo Duo Satuday, Dec 4th El Mocambo Downstairs www.elmocambo.ca Spadina/College Official Organ and Drums website: Free Downloads and Pictures The Benevento Russo Duo Download - The Duo - Darts > Pananoid Android Three years ago, a chance meeting in New York City reunited Marco Benevento and Joe Russo – musicians who had played together as youngsters – and spawned the formation of a genre-busting combination henceforth known as THE DUO. Originally comprised of Hammond organ and drums, and recently adding other keyboards and electronic effects, the pair creates a sound deeply rooted in jazz and rock, while clearly indebted to funk, electronica and eastern influences. This fresh, crisp DUO developed a strong underground following through their marathon residency at NYC’s Knitting Factory. Taking their driving beats and smooth organ wails nationwide, time has seen countless musicians share the stage with them as special guests, including Mike Gordon, Warren Haynes, Stanton Moore, Skerik and Mike D (as Duo Buggin’) and Charlie Hunter. Regular performers at New Orleans’ Jazz Fest and on the summer festival circuit, the DUO has leveled some of the most famous rooms in the US, including the Fillmore in San Francisco, NYC’s Irving Plaza and BB Kings, leaving slack-jawed audiences awed in their wake. Both their self-titled debut album “Marco Benevento Joe Russo” and latest live release “Darts” testify to the pair’s technical virtuosity and pay tribute to their boundary-defying creativity. “Darts”, composed of five extra long tracks, features the DUO at its best, LIVE, with their own brand of trademark telepathy driving the music ahead in all of its pulsing glory. The music these two create constantly moves the listener forward, as if in preparation for the next big push; a kind of cosmic birthing if you will. The delivery is absolutely successful and an all-together engaging experience. Look forward to even bigger things as the DUO joins with Ropeadope records, with anticipation of their early 2005 release already high.
