Orbach had recently left Law and Order after 12 series to work on spin-off Law and Order: Trial by Jury playing the same character, Lennie Briscoe. He won a Tony Award for his performance in Promises, Promises and also appeared in Chicago and 42nd Street. Law and Order has remained one of American TV's most popular shows, exported around the world. It has received a number of Emmy nominations, including best actor for Orbach in 2002. It has also spawned a number of spin-offs including Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Orbach also received Emmy nominations for outstanding guest actor for Golden Girls and supporting actor in a miniseries for Broadway Bound in 1997. bouche
holy shocker. I grew to really like that guy thanks to his role on Law and Order. Back in 92 or 93, I was in NYC with Pauly and we were wandering around. We were hanging around the Ed Sullivan theatre hoping to get stand-by tickets for Letterman. After failing, we walked around the corner and this guy passed us. We both turned around and said in unison "Hey, wasn't that 'that guy'?" Neither of us knew his name, but we knew we saw him all over television and many movies. We soon discovered that was Jerry Orbach and I began to watch Law and Order pretty regularly back then, shortly after that brush with fame. Rob Not Bob
One of my favorite performances of his was as the mobbed up brother in law in Crimes & Misdemeanours ... Jerry was a real triple threat, having distinguished careers in stage, screen and TV. Vaya con dios, Jerry.
