Old monastic guidelines used to instruct the monks, whenever they got randy, to go down to the local cemetery and let their thoughts dwell on rotting corpses and the impermanence of it all. Kama (desire) and Mara (death) (in effect the same demon) came back to back with temptation and terror to get the Buddha off his path. And Freud put eros and thanatos in the same bag too - re. the dance we have to do to keep them in balance. (I've got way too much time on my hands today.)
