SevenSeasJim
Does anybody have any recommendations for users with very dry eyes?
Dr_Evil_Mouse
Do you have soft or RGP lenses? I just got set up with the latter again for the first time in about fifteen years last fall, and I'm still getting used to them. I haven't found anything but the soaking solution to really do the trick when my eyes dry out, which in the last few weeks has been really noticeable. Blane
That's about all. I had to quit wearing contacts regularly for that reason and now only use them for sports.
bokonon
i worked at an optometrist's office for a couple of months. there are a zillion different types of lenses out there. your optometrist should be willing to do "contact lense trials" until you find the type that work for you. the office i worked at got tons of free samples all the time. although, being in parry sound you might have trouble finding a larger office or one that specializes in lenses. Jaimoe
If you have dry eyes, you may have trouble with disposable lenses. I can't wear disposables because of my dry eye problem... and of course the astigmatism.
Dr_Evil_Mouse
I also have astigmatism problems, and for that reason was prescribed gas permeables, which after a decade of overwearing them (e.g. falling asleep drunk, etc.) they actually managed to correct my vision somewhat. MamaBurnsy
I have dry eyes, and wear Focus Night and Day disposable lenses, I love them! They are pretty expensive $320/year, but they are well worth it, you can technically wear them nonstop for 30 days, but I don't, I just use them longer. Calamity Jane
I have to second the recommendation for glasses. Maybe it's time to give your eyesballes a break for awhile. Who knows, you just might come across as more wise and/or respectable, possibly even funky, with glasses...you're too old to be worrying about cool, anyway** at least this is what I tell myself

I have focus daily's but they don't feel comfortable past an hour unless it's raining out.

Jaimoe
Contacts are not too good for your eyes. Over-wearing any type of lense could lead to permanent eye problems. As for laser surgery as an alternative, it isn't a perfect science either. If you are prone to dry eyes, DO NOT GET laser surgery. Also, there is a percentage of laser surgery patients that experience various forms of setbacks.
Dr_Evil_Mouse
If you ever question treasuring your eyes, watch Spaulding Gray's movie Gray's Anatomy. The first 10 minutes are people doing talking head stories about objects messing up their eyeballs. The rest of the story proceeds on that same theme. bradm
And if ever want to get scared of contact lenses forever, read "Seeing" by Harlan Ellison, from his "Strange Wine" collection.Aloha,Brad
