zero
I am really curious where some of these collaborations arise. Dan Bern, Natalie Merchant etc.
AdamH
The Merchant thing seems due to sharing a producer with her: Matthew Ellard. I asked Andrew about the Dan Bern connection nad he just said they'd crossed paths at festivals years prior.
bradm
I remember hearing an interview with Kevin Breit, and the interview asked him a similar question: how did he end up on, for example, a Norah Jones recording? Breit replied that a lot of it was due to producers: if Norah's producer knows/knew (of) Kevin, he might ask him to sit in on a session. Then, if it worked out, Kevin would be an obvious choice for later sessions (and sessions for other artists by the same producer).Aloha,Brad
zero
Great thanks for the heads up guys.
AdamH
The Slip are so damned golden I'm truly hapy for them. If it makes them a bit more inaccessible (unlikely) but gives them much-deserved exposure it'll be a good good thing. Interesting though that Marc and Andrew are guesting so frequently while Brad isn't. Maybe that's helping to keep the Slip iteration healthy. zero
It's also a rhythm section mind you. Also if Brad was in the mix they couldn't help but sound like 'the Slip'.
AdamH
Sorry what I mean is there is seemingly fewer instances of Brad solo guesting on another musician's work.
zero
I never know whether to attribute that to some of his flightiness though (personally not musically). I think he's really just cruising along on his own trajectory and can't be bothered or rather commandeered easily.
AdamH
Yeah I would agree with that. I know he lent a track to a fundraising album of some sort and I am HUGE in love with the tracks on his myspace ( Link ) especially the one that sounds like Bruce Cockburn.
