Dr_Evil_Mouse
I'm trying to get a track from a (non-protected) cd into mp3, but can't seem to get mkw to deal with it (ctrl-drop has no effect). So I downloaded the latest version of LAME, and installed it, but when I click on it to start the program, nothing happens but for a black DOS-esque box that flashes for a quarter-second on the screen. Any suggestions?
backbacon
I use CDex with favourable results.
AD
i use EAC with LAME and get perfect rips every time.
bradm
If you have/use WinAmp, this plug-in supposedly will output to MP3 files.Aloha,Brad
Dr_Evil_Mouse
Hmm... I think I just managed another good step, getting the LAME xp interface. I realise now, though, that the computer won't recognise the wav tracks on the cd as wav's. How can I get around this?

The tracks on an audio CD might be wav format, but they're not wav files; EAC will extract tracks from audio CDs to wav files for you.Aloha,Brad
jonyak
I use windows media player, it will rip into any format you want and they are always perfect. plus it will look up the info about the cd for you on the web and splice all the song titles, band, length, conversion rate into the files. plus its free. AD
LAME is an mp3 encoder - it needs WAV files to encode from. EAC will extract the WAV files from the CD, it then calls LAME to encode to MP3.here is a super duper guide - http://jiggafellz.isa-geek.net/eac/Use the V0 or V2 presets if you'll be sharing your music on OiNK and other sites, people seem to cream their pants over those settings. Kanada Kev
Dunno. I've been using EAC along with LAME to do my conversions and the quality has been fantastic. Get the latest of both and set 'er up. Here's a site that really details the process.http://www.nightmedia.net/docs/convertmp3.htmlIn EAC, go into your Compression Options (under File) and click on the External Compression tab. In the "Additional Command Line Options" line enter the following:-V 2 --vbr-new --add-id3v2 --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %dGood Luck.Later . . .Kanada Kev =8)
Dr_Evil_Mouse
I love you people . The EAC/LAME thing seems to be working....
Dr_Evil_Mouse
Ok... nearly there, I think... but now when I take my apparently converted files to play, they register the same original length and all, but there's no music actually being played. It wouldn't erase all that en route, would it?

Dr_Evil_Mouse
dude, you need speakersI thought it might have been my ears (we did have a pretty loud practice the other night), but then our bunny and our cat just started scrapping a bit, and I couldn't have missed that. Dr_Evil_Mouse
It's kind of embarrassing, for someone who rants against Windows as much as I do - the Media Player (which I updated finally later this afternoon) did the trick. All I can assume is that our computer has been adequately assimilated to the MS Borg and needs a little reminder that alternatives remain. That said, it does have remarkably few options, and I'd like to figure out what wasn't going right with the other progs before I embark again on such a frustrating route. Dr_Evil_Mouse
Thanks . Bookmarked - now, once the burner cooperates, will have to pass on the first fruits to ya .
The Chameleon
As another option I have been using Jetaudio nd it is really good and high quality. It rips to FLAC as well and has a very good burner and is free.Just google it.
