StoneMtn
I'm thinking of catching a Fisbone show in a couple of weeks in Whistler.I'm listening to a show now, and it sounds okay albeit with a bit of a muddy sound.Has anyone here seen them any time recently who can comment on whether or not they're worth seeing? (They are playing at a fairly lame venue in Whistler, which is one reason I am a bit reluctant, so I either need encouragement to go, or confirmation that I shouldn't.) bradm
I saw them in 2001 or 2002 (at Zaphod Beeblebrox in Ottawa; gentlemonkey and others were also there; I got a boot to the head from Angelo Moore when he went crowd-surfing ), and they were what I expected (which was pretty good), not much more or less. I recommend you go see them, unless something significantly better comes along. There was a recent jambase article on their new album and tour. ollie
I've seen them a number of times, and fairly recently -- though maybe not in 3+ years. Before the last show I would have recommended them without hesitation but there had been so many lineup changes by that point that Angelo didn't appear to be feeling it anymore. Maybe it was just a bad night. I'd still go see them myself no question. When they are on it's incredible.
Big Wooly Mammoth
I saw them in the fall at CBGBs in NYC. It was my first time seeing them and I wasn't familiar with their music before the show (not sure why as I've known about them since they started out and was always into punk music). I really enjoyed it though. Angelo (is that the lead singer?) was definitely into it that night. Now, mind you this was at CBGBs a few weeks before it closed down and this was their first time playing there. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat though. Even pee'd next to Angelo right before the show.
gentlemonkey
I love fishbone! I've seen them 7 or 8 times- and their shows have been some of my most memorable concert experiences. (they were best in the early 90s) The last time I saw them was that Zaphods show Bradm mentioned and it was great- even if Angelo and Norwood were the only 2 original members and they're pushing 45- the energy was ramped. I think most people in the room had contact with his Doc Marten that night.. Weirdly, I ended up in the dressing room with the band, drinking tequila shots and smokin doobs; after a few rounds, Angelo and the drummer stripped naked and took showers in full view of the bartender and I. It was surreal. Theeen.. we left and I believe Stapes traded tshirts with Angelo. then i puked on my street. anyhoo- I'll always go see them if they're around, while I can. SmoothedShredder
I've seen naked people in Zaphods too. The staff are remarkably lax about the whole thing.
StoneMtn
This has been helpful. I will probably catch their show. The reason I posted this is that I had actually only heard bad things about their shows over the last few years. It's nice to hear that others have had good experiences though.Depending on what's going on that night, I will probably endure an evening at a serious cougar-bar, complete with hardcore pornography posted in the men's room, given that it's likely I'll catch some good tunes. Tenenbaum
The current Fishbone line up is: Norwood Fisher, Angelo Moore, John Steward, Dre Gipson, ROCKY GEORGE (Suicidal Tendencies), Curtis Storey Jr. and John McKnight.>>ROCKY GEORGE shreds!!! ollie
Pretty sure the last lineup I saw featured Rocky. It's a bit vague but I think it was a year or two after the Zaphods show that GM describes above. I was at that one too and it was awesome. I'll have to check my records, but I have a vague memory of seeing Fishbone there.Edit to ask: I also remember a Fishbone show where Angelo Moore got really angry about a "no stage diving" sign that was up at the venue, but I can't remember whether that was the Zaphod show or the Barrymore's show (assuming the other show I remember was at Barrymore's). Does anybody else remember that?Aloha,Brad Edited March 29, 2007 by Guest
StoneMtn
Hey, a Suicidal Tendency is in the band? That is very relevant! Cool! (One more point in favour of attending this show.)

That was the Chim Chim tour I believe. The show with Rocky George was definitely at Zaphods because I remember comparing the two Zaphods shows I'd seen and they were like night and day.The first time I saw them was at Porter Hall and Angelo climbed on the lattice work that hung from the ceiling. The other time I saw them was opening for Stone Temple Pilots and the Chili Peppers at the Bell Centre. Angelo spent part of the set on the floor, singing to the audience members that were slowly filing in.

ollie
Hmmm...I must have missed that other Zaphod Fishbone show. It wasn't nearly as well attended. I'll take a look through my ticket stubs for the exact date. The Salads opened the first Zaphods show, correct? And poured sweat on the crowd as he climbed out above us, singing all the way. I remember trying to get up close to see them, but being in a mosh pit in a winter coat was a bad idea and I soon retreated to get some air. That's awesome that you and GM were there -- I probably saw you too. I might have told you this already but before I met you officially through "the scene" you were always "that guy" I would see at every concert I attended. richbass
I saw them in 2000, they opened up for STP and RHCP, what a killer show! Funny thing is they we're my fav, especially the one dreaded bass player!
Absolute_Route
Never seen them but Angelo partied in my living room. Mid/Late 90's they played Kitchener (Volcano I think). My roomies went to the show, I had to get up early for work the next day so not really knowing the band stayed home. They invited the bar back to the house and Angelo came and partied the night away. I of course got very little sleep but never left my bedroom and missed the whole thing.
