SmoothedShredder
Clarke has the IQ similar to most apes at your local zoo and apparently has been trying to bribe the zookeepers to let these apes play hockey for the Flyers. Yet when dealing with the habs, Clarke looks like a modern Einstein.

Booche
Interesting...............The Oilers knew they wouldn't get Vanek....This is all poker folks. It may be dirty poker, but it is legal poker. The Sabres continually told the Oilers they would match for Vanek. So the Oilers, who could have chosen any RFA, they chose to make a huge offer to the one RFA they knew was going nowhere. Everything the Sabres have done this off-season has been about keeping Vanek, and they told the Oilers yesterday repeatedly that they would match.Kevin Lowe used the Sabres and Vanek to send a message. I believe that Vanek is NOT the target.I believe it is Parise, Stepniak, Ryder, or Penner. All of whom you won't have to pay $50 M for. But this startegy now has opened up the trade talks for Kevin Lowe and the Oilers.Trade us your RFA rights, or this is what we are going to do. I fully expect that the next guy we hear about will be the actual target the Oilers had in mind the entire time. And it will either be via trade or alot less than 50 million. Remember, the Oilers got their 3rd ropund draft pick back yesterday for a reason...You need your own draft picks to make offer sheets...BUT the Vanek offer sheet was for 4 first round picks...+++++The Sabres HAD to match for Vanek...almost out of principle. They didn't sign Briere to have this money available. But in Poker, there are risks. The next four drafts are extremely strong including a player named John Tavares who many believe is EVERY bit Crosby... We have seen during this UFA period that the Oilers are having their work cut out for them to get players to come to Edmonton. No fault of their own, but it is true...They went hard for Gomez and Nylander...In the Nylander deal they were had. Therefore Kevin Lowe has to take a different course of action...and it isn't pretty, but it is within the rules...It is however NOT at all within the code...And that has the Sabres EXTREMELY upset with being pawns right now.. Guest Low Roller
Good on Crosby for not breaking the bank with the Penguins. He showed a lot of class and team spirit. Then there's Yashin, who won't back down from his "market value" despite getting that huge buyout from the Isles. He may decide to play in Russia.
