Jaimoe
Really?? 80? Wow...that's bad. Was it his first start? What were they saying? He's been losing velocity for a number of years. His ERA has never been good, so I think he's through. He will be either sent down (waivers probably applies) or released.
Hal Johnson
Sucks. He had some promise. Would have been nice to have a possible lefty in the rotation too.

Hal Johnson
cuz I did some research and Gustavo said this: "I think I am 80 percent right now, but I am feeling better every time out," which would mean that his velocity should increase up to MLB standards. Hal Johnson
Hes been injured forever - you cant just write him off that easily. But fuck, I dunno. Im just wishing they had a lefty in their rotation.
djmelbatoast
Not only has he been injured he's been developing a criminal record. Last year he got caught during spring training DUI.
Hal Johnson
Its a right of passage dj. You get a DUI at spring training, everyone knows that.
guigsy
he's definitely done.didnt they send him down outright today?
LXQ42
I think they still have an option year on him, so they can, and have, sent him down without clearing waivers. Not sure if he's done for good, but he won't be in the bigs this year. I agree, a lefty in the rotation would be great!
AcidNintendoOrgan
Who deserves to start in left this year?Johnson, Lind, Stewart, Scutaro, Coats, or Stairs...the list goes on.Although I like Eckstein (who has proven to hit for avg.) I really liked to see John MacDonald at work in the field.
djmelbatoast
I think you have to start Johnson in left to start the year platooning with Stairs. If within a month or two though, if Johnson doesn't put up numbers like he did two years ago, I say go with Lind. Also, I think MacDonald is going to get plenty of playing time giving Eckstein, Hill and Rolen days off. Jaimoe
Johnson himself said that he wasn't surprised given his subpar batting on-base averages that the Jays signed another shortstop. I love his honesty and he'll see plenty of action as a utility infielder - most teams don't have one of those.

I think they should go with a Johnson/Stairs platoon in Left, and if Johnson is tanking Stewart will get the call. Lind will be in Triple A this season. djmelbatoast
I have to disagree with you there. I think that if Stewart gets the chance he'll be a huge disappointment.
afro poppa
I bet ya Lind is the starter by the end of the season....and that Johnson gets traded...or something.I read somewhere that the Mets were interested in him.
Jaimoe
The biggest problem with Lind last year was his inability to hit to the opposite field, causing him to alter his swing. He's really worked hard on his batting, so I wouldn't be surprised if he at least platoons by the mid point of the season. I wouldn't write Johnson off yet, but Stewart is a lifer Jay, working his way up to the big club from the A-Ball St. Catherines Blue Jays; i.e., he's about as loyal as any player they have in their system. AcidNintendoOrgan
I am going to set it up anyway because I am sure I will get some bites. There are 10 email invites on the site, so if you want in P.M. me a junky old email address because (with hockey pool) I get the occasional unrelated email. Not many though. LXQ42
I have to disagree with you there. I think that if Stewart gets the chance he'll be a huge disappointment. How will a career .300 hitter, who last year hit .298 be a disappointment? Not a home run guy, but he'll hit the percentages. Jaimoe
The only real issue with Stewart is his brutal throwing arm. He's a proven good batter and can still run like the wind, plus he's no cancer in the clubhouse being a born and bred Jay.
