Guest Low Roller
Prospect defecting? Some conflicting reports as to whether 6'2" Habs prospect Pavel Valentenko signed a contract with the Moscow Dynamo or not despite being under contract with the Habs. RDS and Dynamo is saying yes, Montreal is saying no.He played four games with the Bulldogs so far this season, but left to Russia for 'personal reasons' last week. All things considered, it's a hit for the Bulldogs this season as Valentenko was on their top defensive pairing, but not so much a hit for the Habs who have loads of competent D prospects to fill in the blanks for next season. This is another blow for the Habs' incursion into Russia with Perezhogin, Emelin, Korneev, and now potentially Valentenko choosing to play in Russia over the NHL. The future is also very up in the air for draft pick Maxim Trunev who is burning up the KHL.
Booche
He probably realized he has no shot. HockeyFutures has 6 Dmen ahead of him in their rankings, whatever that means.Ryan McDonagh 8.0B Ryan O'Byrne 7.0A David Fischer 8.0C Mathieu Carle 7.0B Shawn Belle 7.0C Yannick Weber 7.0C
Guest Low Roller
I agree that his odds of making the jump to the NHL in the short term were slim to none. He would have been good trade bait though because of his size and his slapshot which was the hardest in the AHL last year.I wonder if packaging the rights to Perezhogin, Emelin, and Valentenko would yield even a draft pick in a trade.McDonagh is getting some major hype in junior, and if anyone is watching the World Junior Championships, then you'll be able to see him play for Team USA. Guest Low Roller
Speaking of someone who doesn't have room on the team, here's Greg Stewart and his one punch fight from a couple of nights ago. Terrible video quality.
Guest Low Roller
More info trickling in on Valentenko: He was given permission by Gainey to play in Russia for the rest of the season. The contract also includes two optional seasons should he choose to remain in Russia and play for Moscow. Andrei Markov said that he's "not aware why Pavel went back, but at least he would play in a better league then the AHL [sic]". Ouch.

Guest Low Roller
Well at least we know that our penalty kill works.Did you see Kovalev and Tanguay playing keep-away with that puck? What was that, like four passes in the span of two seconds?

Guest Low Roller
Well that's an unfortunate start for Pavel Valentenko. The game between AK Bars Kazan and Dynamo Moscow was suspended after one period when a SMOKE GRENADE was thrown on the ice.First dildos and now smoke grenades. The KHL is awesome! Guest Low Roller
HA! So Valentenko returned to Russia because he is supporting his entire family financially, and the AHL contract wasn't big enough to do that. He supposedly did not want to return to Russia, but his family advised him that it would be better for the family if he did because he would be paid more there. Hard to hate the guy for doing what's best for his family. Yann Danis in nets for the Islanders on Saturday against the Habs. It will be his first NHL start since 2005-2006 when he suited up for the Habs. We're going to destroy him.

Booche
That was fucking wicked. MattyC called it too when they were down by 3. Something along the lines of"They are going to come back, there is no doubt. And Higgins is going to score."Blammo. Once Kovalev took that high stick to the cheek and got cut open without a penalty being called, he grabbed the rest of the boys and went to town. And how about BigTit's move to set up Pleks? Wicked. But this team has to cut out the early trips to the penalty box.
badams
8-1-1 great start to the year. Great comeback last night. 5 days off for the Habs.
