Kanada Kev
Unbelievable!!! This woman is pure gold for the comedy-news industry:Sarah Palin Turkey Incident: Does TV Interview While Turkeys Are Slaughtered In The Background (VIDEO)Some videos you just have to see to believe. On Thursday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin appeared in Wasilla in order to pardon a local turkey in anticipation of Thanksgiving. This proved to be a slightly absurd but ultimately unremarkable event. But what came next was positively surreal. After the pardon Palin proceeded to do an interview with a local TV station while the turkeys were being SLAUGHTERED in the background!! Seemingly oblivious to the gruesomeness going on over her shoulder, she carries on talking for over three minutes. Watch the video below to see for yourself. Be warned, it's kind of gruesome. Ms.Huxtable
"This has been fun. It's nice to get out and do something that doesn't invite criticism."I eat turkey, so I can't condemn the slaughter of the birds, but at over 3 minutes, I do know the amount of time that man was handling the bird while still alive was cruel and unnecessary. phishtaper
after he's indicted for war crimes next year and eventually found guilty, maybe Obama will give Dubya a similar "pardon".
d_rawk
I had never heard of this ritual of pardoning a Turkey. Very bizarre!OriginsEach year since 1947, the National Turkey Federation and the Poultry and Egg National Board have given a turkey to the President of the United States at a White House ceremony. Since then, presidents have been more likely to eat the turkey rather than give it a reprieve. A notable exception occurred in 1963, when President Kennedy, referring to the turkey given to him, said, "Let's just keep him." It wasn't until the first Thanksgiving of President George H.W. Bush, in 1989, that a turkey was officially pardoned for the first time.Confusing the PracticePresidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have continued the pardons begun under the first Bush. Some confusion about the true origin of this practice has crept into recent presidential speeches though. One story claims that Harry Truman pardoned the turkey given to him in 1947, but the Truman Library has been unable to find any evidence of this. Another story claims the tradition dates back to Abraham Lincoln pardoning his son Tad's pet turkey. "I, Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, anticipating and hoping that in the spirit of Thanksgiving, Alaskans everywhere will find adequate nourishment elsewhere and without this particular turkey I do hereby grant Thanksgiving a full amnesty and pardon and it is so ordered and we will pick one of the big Toms"Huh. Who knew.

Kanada Kev
The camera operator deserves credit for keeping the guy in the background perfectly in frame. I don't know how he kept from laughing his ass off during the interview.
bradm
I can't say something like that. We've got some great other young governors. I think you're going to see the governors assume a greater leadership role in our Republican Party.http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/14/mccain.senate/Aloha,Brad
