SaggyBalls
If you're looking to install a pickup in your bridge, you might want to look into B-Band pickups. They don't have the dead spots that normal piezo units sometimes have, and I've never heard anything less than glowing about them.http://www.b-band.com/That Fishman Jay posted looks like it'll do the trick really well. You'[ll be able to use the difference from your $300 budget to start your Preamp fund.

SaggyBalls
they can help make a good signal sound amazing. Most acoustic guitars with pickups have them built in. You've seen the control boxes on the sides of guitars...that's what those are.EQ, Volume control, sometimes there are other sound enhancement features. It's the difference between good and great most of the time. Giggles
plug something in, its sound "flat"...the straight response from the sound of the strings plucked, transfer through the bridge and into the transducer pick-up...a pre-amp takes that plain sound and shapes it into the sound more pleasurable to the ears...each company (fishman, b-bender, LR Baggs, Headway, highlander) has an idea as to what they believe is the finest "preamp" tone selection...
