DevO Posted March 18, 2009 Report Share Posted March 18, 2009 http://news.therecord.com/article/504538Local blues legend Brown in hospital March 17, 2009RECORD STAFFKITCHENERBlues legend Mel Brown remains in the intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital.The 69-year-old guitarist and recording artist was admitted to hospital on March 1."Keep your prayers and good thoughts coming, Mel has been in the hospital before and he came out," said Rob Deyman, the head of the Kitchener Blues Festival.For about five years, Brown has needed an oxygen tank because of emphysema."I understand it is quite serious, but our prayers are with him and Miss Angel," Deyman said.For two decades Brown and his wife Miss Angel have been the leaders of Kitchener's burgeoning blues scene.When Brown was unable to make a show this past Saturday many fans were shocked to learn he was too sick to play.Brown was also scheduled to open for the Mavis Staples this coming Friday at the Gig Theatre in downtown Kitchener. I had the pleasure of sharing some great conversations about blues music with him after his La Luna gigs on a few occasions.I hope he gets well soon.
