kung
You may obviously know this but http://theband.hiof.no is the authority on all things Band. Jan Brage, a norwegian friend and lead singer of The Jan, runs the most comprehensive directory. You can find shortened (I know painful) sound clips of every line-up and alot of solo material. Go into audio and then solo artists. Anyways it's a good resource to know what recordings are out there. Also there's one bootleg that even Garth recommends High On The Hog (that's the name of one of the late line-up albums) or something like that. What else, oh yeah I always thought they hated their Woodstock set because of the sound and their being consummate professionals but Garth said the boys liked it cause they sounded good- not so much for him. Also has anyone ever heard that The Band was billed as the headliners of Woodstock, apparently out West that was the way it was billed for the people making the trek. I guess because their live shows are few and far between.
Northern Wish
I'm a bit of a nut about the Band myself.... and have several live recordings. The best sounding is the 76 RFK show (from the board), but the most comprehensive is the "Across the Great Divide" bootleg box set. This is a three cd set of loads of unreleased studio stuff (dating back to the Hawks days) as well as live and rehearsal performances. I'd love to set up a trade for the Woodstock show. Or B+P ya, Ersh. Sean
ersh
Alright! I've got "Across the Great Divide" and I've got the Last Waltz box set and both are great. Where are you at Northern Wish? Perhaps I'll be in the area sometime soon and we can set something up - I'd love to hear that RFK show. Thanks, jeff

Raven_Space
quote:Originally posted by secondtube: the band played port dover ?!?!?!? Ivey's Summer Gardens. This predates them being know as The Band though. They were still The Hawks then. 1964 or so. There is a 2 CD set live at the summer Gardens from around this time I have been trying to get for my collection. Of course, with Mr. Rick Danko being from nearby Walsh, it makes sense they would play in the area.
