Dr. J
This fall I'm going to launch a website to promote a book I've written regarding a company called Canada Cycle & Motor which became known as CCM. While the purpose of the site will be to promote the book, I also want to provide folks with the opportunity to share personal stories and photos connected to vintage CCM bicycles and sports equipment etc. My question is, to do this, should I set up a forum as part of the site or simply provide a link to a separate blog or to a Facebook page? Advantages? Disadvantages? Any thoughts?
bouche
you could take advantage of a twitter account and challenge people to give an experience in 140 characters or less. or, I could rename the Slip forum and get people posting in there
phishtaper
i had a ccm green mustang with a banana seat and a sissy bar. when i outgrew it, i moved up to a white targa. huge childhood memories. i have no technical advise but i would totally visit your site and probably buy your book too. best of luck with it. d_rawk
Dr. J --I couldn't tell by your post whether you have already built the bulk of the main site or whether you haven't started. If you have started, what platform did you use to build it or is it all handcoded HTML? The answer to this question will make a big difference towards the answer.
Dr. J
d_rawk: to date I've done nothing. When I do, I'll have to pay someone to do it since my knowledge of websites and computer programs borders on the non-existent. I was trying to get a sense of what might be the best way to ask them to set it up.
ollie
I think a forum/message board system makes the most sense for your needs in terms of flexibility and customization. Any decent developer should have no problem setting one up for you.
Dr. J
Thanks Ollie. Funny thing is I used to see tons of forums. Now I see very few and even fewer that are active...this one being the exception of course...maybe, as bouche suggests, I should simply take over the Slip forum :content:
canadianphan
I'd go with a wordpress blog. You can set one up for free and end use their myname.worpress.org URL. Just pick your layout and add your content. There are forum moduels that you can enable as well (which you can moderate to keep out the viagara adds)
