And I don't really want to talk about me...

the following written by Ani DiFranco describes the way I feel sometimes

’cause I’m not going to pretend

That I don’t pick my nose

That’s just the way it is, my friends

That’s just the way it goes

This is who I am

What I do

And what I say

If you like it, let it be

If you don’t, please do the same

I fight with love

I laugh with rage

You gotta live light enough to see the humour

And long enough to see some change

anyone care to add to this post of fave song lyrics??

Favourite lyrics...hmmmmmmm...well anything by Blind Melon for sure...2 of my favs are

Change

I don't feel the suns comin' out today

its staying in, its gonna find another way.

As I sit here in this misery, I don't

think I'll ever see the sun from here.

And oh as I fade away,

they'll all look at me and say, and they'll say,

Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.

But that's okay

they're just afraid to change.

When you feel your life ain't worth living

you've got to stand up and

take a look around you then a look way up to the sky.

And when your deepest thoughts are broken,

keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die.

And as we all play parts of tomorrow,

some ways will work and other ways we'll play.

But I know we all can't stay here forever,

so I want to write my words on the face of today.

and then they'll paint it

And oh as I fade away,

they'll all look at me and they'll say,

Hey look at him and where he is these days.

When life is hard, you have to change.

and the beginning of Walk

Find myself singing the same songs everyday

Ones that make me feel good

When things behing the smiles ain't okay

Around and over and in-between the seas

I need to be on top of a mountain

Where I can be see everything

Cause this paranoia's getting old

But pretty much all of Blind Melon i relate to in some way

There's more fav lyrics for sure...i'll post em when they come to me

quote:

UP TO ME

~
Words and Music by Bob Dylan

Everything went from bad to worse, money never changed a thing,

Death kept followin', trackin' us down, at least I heard your bluebird sing.

Now somebody's got to show their hand, time is an enemy,

I know you're long gone,

I guess it must be up to me.

If I'd thought about it I never would've done it, I guess I would've let it slide,

If I'd lived my life by what others were thinkin', the heart inside me would've died.

I was just too stubborn to ever be governed by enforced insanity,

Someone had to reach for the risin' star,

I guess it was up to me.

Oh, the Union Central is pullin' out and the orchids are in bloom,

I've only got me one good shirt left and it smells of stale perfume.

In fourteen months I've only smiled once and I didn't do it consciously,

Somebody's got to find your trail,

I guess it must be up to me.

It was like a revelation when you betrayed me with your touch,

I'd just about convinced myself that nothin' had changed that much.

The old Rounder in the iron mask slipped me the master key,

Somebody had to unlock your heart,

He said it was up to me.

Well, I watched you slowly disappear down into the officers' club,

I would've followed you in the door but I didn't have a ticket stub.

So I waited all night 'til the break of day, hopin' one of us could get free,

When the dawn came over the river bridge,

I knew it was up to me.

Oh, the only decent thing I did when I worked as a postal clerk

Was to haul your picture down off the wall near the cage where I used to work.

Was I a fool or not to try to protect your identity?

You looked a little burned out, my friend,

I thought it might be up to me.

Well, I met somebody face to face and I had to remove my hat,

She's everything I need and love but I can't be swayed by that.

It frightens me, the awful truth of how sweet life can be,

But she ain't a-gonna make me move,

I guess it must be up to me.

We heard the Sermon on the Mount and I knew it was too complex,

It didn't amount to anything more than what the broken glass reflects.

When you bite off more than you can chew you pay the penalty,

Somebody's got to tell the tale,

I guess it must be up to me.

Well, Dupree came in pimpin' tonight to the Thunderbird Cafe,

Crystal wanted to talk to him, I had to look the other way.

Well, I just can't rest without you, love, I need your company,

But you ain't a-gonna cross the line,

I guess it must be up to me.

There's a note left in the bottle, you can give it to Estelle,

She's the one you been wond'rin' about, but there's really nothin' much to tell.

We both heard voices for a while, now the rest is history,

Somebody's got to cry some tears,

I guess it must be up to me.

So go on, boys, and play your hands, life is a pantomime,

The ringleaders from the county seat say you don't have all that much time.

And the girl with me behind the shades, she ain't my property,

One of us has got to hit the road,

I guess it must be up to me.

And if we never meet again, baby, remember me,

How my lone guitar played sweet for you that old-time melody.

And the harmonica around my neck, I blew it for you, free,

No one else could play that tune,

You know it was up to me.

a sublime tidbit

quote:

nowadays the songs on the radio.... all drive me craaaazyyyy

another sublime tidbit

quote:

Wake up in the morning and it's hard to live. Hard to live, yes, it's hard to live and it will be a long time before shit starts to give, and every single day it's getting harder to give,

and some Ani

quote:

life in the circus ain't easy

but the folks on the outside don't know

the tent goes up and the tent comes down

and all that they see is the show

and the ladies on the horses look so pretty

and the lions are lookin real mad

and some of the clowns are happy

and some of the clowns are sad

but underneath

there's another expression

that the makeup isn't making

life under the big top

it's about freedom

it's about faking

there's an art to the laughter

there's a science

and there's a lot of love

and compliance

welcoem to the freakshow

here we go...

we live to hear the slack-jawed gasping

we live under a halo of held breath

and when the children raise up a giant shield

of laughter, it's like they're fending off death

and we can make somethig bigger

then anyone of us alone

and then the clowns will take off their makeup

and the people will go home

but life on the outside ain't easy

no sequins, no elephants,

no parading around

yeah, the tent goes up

and the tent comes down

and they're stuck in this fucking town

you need a lot of love and compliance

welcome to the freakshow

here we go

sweet old world

by lucinda williams

see what you lost when you left this world

this sweet old world

what you lost when you left this world

this sweet old world

the breath from your own lips

the touch of fingertips

a sweet and tender kiss

the sound of a midnight train

wearing someone's ring

someone calling your name

somebody so warm cradled in your arm

didn't you think you were worth anything

see what you lost when you left this world

this sweet old world

what you lost when you left this world

this sweet old world

millions of us in love

promises made good

your own flesh and blood

looking for some truth

dancing with no shoes

the beat, the rhythm, the blues

the pounding of your heart's drum

together with another one

didn't you think anyone loved you

see what you lost when you left this world

this sweet old world

what you lost when you left this world

this sweet old world.

Just heard this song today....it's a oldie.

Everyday People - Sly and the family stone

Sometimes I'm right, but I can be wrong,

my only beefs are in my song

A pitcher, a picker, a drummer and then makes no difference what group i'm in....

I am everyday people

there is a blue one that can't except the green one for living with the black one, trying to be a skinny one....

Different Strokes for different folks

and so on, and so on and scoobie, doobie doobie

oooohh sha sha

We got to live together.

I am no better and neither are you.... we are the same whatever we do.

You love me, you hate me, you loothe me and then, you can't figure out the bag i'm in...

I am everyday people

there is a long hair that doesn't like a short hair for being such a rich one that will not help the poor one....

different strokes for different folks

and so on and so on and scoobie, doobie, doobie

-- ooohhhh sha sha

We got to live together

There is a yellow one that won't except the black one that won't except the red that won't except the white one,

Different strokes for different folks

and so on and so on and scoobie, doobie, doobie,

I am everyday people.

not a fave, but made me think of earthfreaks excitement to return home to Vancouver Island for the holidays [smile]

so this passage goes out to everybody away from home this time of year

Christmas Time’s a - Coming

by: Emmylou Harris

Holly’s in the window

Home where the wind blows

The cane foam’s a-runnin’

Christmas time’s a-comin’.

Can’t you hear them bells ringin’, ringin’

Joy, don’tcha hear them singin’

When it’s snowin’, I’ll be goin’

Back to my country home.

Christmas time’s a-comin’

Christmas time’s a-comin’

Christmas time’s a-comin’

And I know I’m goin’ home.

White candle’s burnin’

My old heart’s a-yearnin’

For the folks at home when

Christmas time’s a-comin’.

Snow flake’s a-fallin’

My old heart’s a-callin’

Tall pine’s a-hummin’

Christmas time’s a-comin’.

Anytime capacity was filled,

I tried to rock it

Anytime a honey gave us play,

Tried to knock it

Never was a fool,

slow even in school,

never see us sweat and,

you'll never see us drool

Out to rock the globe

while it's still here to rock

Don't punch girls and

we don't punch your clock

Gotta go, Gotta go

see ya'later, by the cat

and you can't beat that with a bat.

You can get with this,

or you can get with that...

A classic by Black Sheep

[Razz]

onthejourney: a good buddy of mine has described blind melon as the soundtrack to his life, and i can see how alot of people can relate to shannon's words.

id say, personally, tom waits has written what are by and far my favourite lyrics, especially the one currently as my signature. the first time i heard that lyric i was walking home late at night listening to blue valentine and those words just brought such a smile to my face.

i cant think of any other artists right now . ..

phish_stick --- who's your buddy [Wink][Wink] just kidding

but seriously, i wonder if he might one of these guys i met in hess village one night..they were playing blind melon on their guitars...i freaked and then they freaked when they found out how much i love it up...we sat..they played and we all sang for a good little while...made my night!! I think one of them was named Ben...never saw them again...but definitely it was a wonderful chance meeting. I would have to say that I also feel at times that it is the soundtrack to my life. Indeed a number of people feel that way.

Howard Jones...anyone else here admit to seeing him at Canada's Wonderland in 84! [Roll Eyes]

golly dang...The Grateful Dead were there that summer with The Band [Eek!] and i went to freakin' Howard Jones [Mad]

what is love

I love you whether or not you love me

I love you even if you think that I don’t

Sometimes I find you doubt my love for you, but I don’t mind

Why should I mind, why should I mind

Chorus

What is love anyway, does anybody love anybody anyway

What is love anyway, does anybody love anybody anyway

Can anybody love anyone so much that they will never fear

Never worry never be sad

The answer is they cannot love this much nobody can

This is why I don’t mind you doubting

And maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be

The door always must be left unlocked

To love when circumstance may lead someone away from you

And not to spend the time just doubting

so many great lyricists out there....the last few years i've really been into what Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, and Martin Tielli have had to say.....but, here's a couple....

a bit from Car by Built To Spill...

You get the car, I'll get the night off.

We'll get the chance..

to take the world apart and figure out how it works.

Don't let me know what you find out.

I need a ride.. You need a guide who needs a map.

If I don't die or worse.. I'm gonna need a nap.

At best I'll be asleep when you get back.

I wanna see it when you find out what comets, stars, and moons are all about.

I wanna see their faces turn to backs of heads and slowly get smaller.

I wanna see it now....

------

from Beauty On by Martin Tielli...

I hate you all

You smell like borrowed ideas.

------

baring in mind that i think just about every word on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is perfect, here's an excerpt from Radio Cure...

cheer up

honey i hope you can

there is something wrong with me

my mind is filled with radio cures

electronic surgical words

picking apples for the kings and queens of things i've never seen

distance has no way of making love understandable.

-------

feeling the same way about the Moon and Antarctica by Modest Mouse that i do about yankee hotel, it's really too hard to just put down a few choice lyrics from that album...it truly is one of the most brilliantly written pieces ever...so, here's a modest mouse song that kinda got me into them...but if you're interested, do a search for their lyrics on google, it's worth it....

Broke account so I broke a sweat

I've bought some things that I sort of regret about now

Broke your glasses, but it broke the ice

You said that I was an asshole and I paid the price

Broken hearts want broken necks

I've done some things that I want to forget but I can't

Broke my pace and ran out of time

Sometimes I'm so full of shit that it should be a crime

Broke a promise cause my car broke down

Such a classic excuse it should be bronze by now

Broke up, and I'm relieved somehow

It's the end of the discussions that just go round and round

And round, and round, and round, and round,

And round, and round it shouldn't have been anyway

No way, no way, no way, that's right

Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, uh no

Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, uh no

It was like everything was evidence of broken (time?)

You're living on fancy wine

You'll drink that turpentine

You're starting conversations

You don't even know the topic

-------

Tom Waits also has way too many to think of just one at the moment...as does Neil....but all i can hear in my head right now is "someday...you'll find....everything you're looking for....yeaaaahhhhh"....

ok, one more than i'm out...by David Berman...the band is the Silver Jews, the album is American Water, the song is Random Rules...

In 1984 I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Slowly screwing my way across Europe, they had to make a correction.

Broken and smokin' where the infrared deer plunge in the digital snake.

I tell you, they make it so you can't shake hands when they make your hands shake.

I know you like to line dance, everything so democratic and cool,

But baby there's no guidance when random rules.

I know that a lot of what I say has been lifted off of men's room walls.

Maybe I've crossed the wrong rivers and walked down all the wrong halls.

But nothing can change the fact that we used to share a bed

and that's why it scared me so when you turned to me and said:

"Yeah, you look like someone

Yeah you look like someone who up and left me low.

Boy, you look like somene I used to know."

I asked the painter why the roads are colored black.

He said, "Steve, it's because people leave

and no highway will bring them back."

So if you don't want me I promise not to linger,

But before I go I gotta ask you dear about the tan line on your ring finger.

No one should have two lives,

now you know my middle names are wrong and right.

Honey we've got two lives to give tonight.

-------

alright...i guess thats it for now....besides the signature, courtesy of joel plaskett...cheers...

billy bragg always has something good to say, and elvis costello is my choice for best lyricist hands down no contest.

although there's some hip-hop lyrics that are really interesting these days..

check this one out by Alias, called Divine Disappointment. Speaker takes on role of God, talking about humans have always fucked things up...

--

my frustration aimed at what I created

has me feeling discombobulated

I hated the boredom and so I restated entertainment for my well-being now it

seems I made the wrong decision

my project had appeared easy but had no direction in precision

beginner's luck

only up to recent times do I feel stuck

I'm the only one to blame for things that ran amuck I built up

a universe that is now building me you see

technological advancement which is the creater now?

and all things to be decided

have not even once touched my hands

my quote unquote followers now constantly fill the stands

On the so-called Sabbath day

for years it's been this way

but these people can't figure out

whetehr it's the first or last day to pray

they seem to think that I'm forgiving of all

which means they have a scapegoat

if they happen to drop the ball

I've been coined various names

None of which to me are flattering

they look to me for a guidance

but to me they do not matter in my eyes

there's nothing I can do to help this situation

when they have internal conflicts with their whole congregation

they gather every week and speak of me in song

these beings I created in this project gone terribly wrong

you all claim that

you know me

but you really don't ever forgiving

and you say of me in reality

I realy won't

from the day I gave you life

to your last anointment

you have all been nothing but divine dissapointment

so I'm now stuck to figure out

what to actually do at this point and time

these creatures think that there's an afterlife

but they spend their life benign

they killed another creature years ago

that claimed to be my son

so now they mold thier lives

after him and claim that He's the One

The one that will save them, lead them to a new breath

I hate to break it to them: "I have nothing for you after death"

so carry on if you wish unknowing

thinking breath is wind blowing

magnifying light bulb is the sun

and tears of rivers flowing

think that every bad thing that happens to you is at my will

like bankrupcy, adultory, and the reason why others kill

go on to be mislead as you have your entire life

think that all some how reward

for all your pain and strife

"I can't control destiny"

where'd you come up with that notion?

"There's no cure for AIDS"

so don't even bother with that potion

I didn't create the disease to punish others

I didn't even make it

so if you have that frame of mind

you go ahead and break it

I'm sick and tired to feel responsiblity for all of you ungratefuls

Unwilling to share with the starving while you enjoy all of your platefuls

even if I had the power to help you

I wouldn't even bother

stop thinking that I love you and

stop calling me your father

I didn't plan on you evolving into this mess

with which I deal

asking for my forgiveness when you lie, cheat and steal

what the hell do you want me to do

try and save yourself

I cant help your marriage, chlldren or status of health

my problem's far away, any of your so-called devastations

like this oncoming war between the so called United Nations

I regret making all of you

You make my blood pressure climb

I wish I didn't make you

but even I cant turn back the hands of time

(chorus)

"paradise of fools!!"

---

Pretty good...
