Velvet Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Glad I finally remembered to post this... Ball & Chain is Micheal Ball and his girlfriend (who's name escapes me) on fiddle/guitar/mandolin and vocals, singing wayyyy authentic old-timey music. They have a backing band for this show, bass/drums/pedal steel. I know Micheal from teaching at the Ottawa Folklore Centre. He's a great guy and a great player, and when I saw him and his girlfriend play at Blue Skies, I found out he's got that perfect old-timey voice. I think this is gonna be a really really good show, if you like that kinda thing. I don't know the name of the venue, but it's just south of the Folklore Centre (Bank/Sunnyside) on the same side of the street. OFC is 1111 Bank, so I would guess this place would be 1169 Bank Street or so. It used to be a St. Hubert or something, and it's across from the 7-11. Say, just a thought: Do you suppose if Osama's boys had taken down the WTC on July 11th instead of September 11th that 7-11 stores would have changed their name?
DevO Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Looks like a cool show Todd! BTW, how was that Harry Manx show in Ottawa a while back? I'm crankin' Manx right now and loving it. I really want to check out the new album that he's put out with Kevin Breit.

bouche Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Velvet the prophet.... that's almost QOTD material. I'd love to check out that band, but previous plans conflict a little. Are they fairly regular in town?
bradm Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I'm on the Ottawa Folk Fest mailing list, and just got one of their semi-regular mails, and it lists: quote: A) Ball and Chain - Fri. Feb. 21, Bayou Blues and Jazz Club The Bayou web page also lists the gig, with The Wreckers opening. Aloha, Brad
Velvet Posted February 22, 2003 Author Report Posted February 22, 2003 They are local, but I don't think they play that often; at least they don't advertise shows very widely. They are doing three sets, starting around 9pm, so I hope there's some other hard drinkers there for me to puke on. -velvet The Daymaker
