  1. I'll bite. Why Fred Penner out of everything else?
  2. Ottawa Folk Festival organizers just confirmed that City and Colour will be headlining on Wednesday, September 4. Also on the bill is ‘Patti Smith and Her Band’. Day tickets for September 4 will be available for purchase Saturday, August 24 at 10 a.m. at all Ottawa Folk Festival Tickets outlets— as well as three-day passports, adult five-day festival passports, youth festival wristbands, and ‘Folk Clubhouse’ passports. Previous purchases of three-day passports, adult five-day festival passports, youth festival wristbands, and ‘Folk Clubhouse’ passports are still valid for this date (Sept. 4, 2013). In addition, as a gesture of thanks, festival organizers will offer fans that previously purchased three-day passports, adult five-day festival passports, youth festival wristbands, and ‘Folk Clubhouse’ passports (prior to August 20) a $25 credit towards the purchase of their same event pass for 2014. City and Colour—the moniker of singer-songwriter Dallas Green—is undeniably one of the biggest groundswell stories in Canadian music. With three JUNOs under his belt—including two SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR awards (2009, 2012), and three Platinum-selling albums, Green’s latest and fourth studio album The Hurry and The Harm debuted at #1 on the Top-200 SoundScan Chart in Canada, last month. It is City and Colour’s best debut in Canada to date, outselling Little Hell, which also debuted at #1. The Hurry and The Harm made serious waves internationally as well, debuting at a career high #16 in the U.S., #4 in Australia, #32 in the UK, and #83 in Germany. City and Colour’s last Canadian tour sold out in minutes and came on the heels of an international run with sold-out shows across the US, UK and Europe including arena dates opening for P!NK in the U.S. and Biffy Clyro in the UK. Green’s new touring band includes Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, Dead Weather) on bass, Dante Schwebel (Hacienda, Dan Auerbach) on guitar, Doug MacGregor (Constantines) on drums and Matt Kelly on pedal steel guitar and keys. “It’s definitely been a challenging week, but I’d say I’m very pleased that Dallas Green (City and Colour) could accommodate us on such short notice,” says festival executive/programming director Mark Monahan. “He’ll make a great opening night for the festival.” Other acts to note at the Ottawa Folk Festival include Vampire Weekend (Sept. 5), Kendrick Lamar (Sept. 6), The Avett Brothers (Sept. 7), and The Wailers (Sept. 8).
  3. says the guy who's probably wearing something Habs related right now.
  4. I didn't mean anything you posted. I responded to too many things with one post so I shouldn't have quoted. I was just referring to my previous response to AD. I was mistaking his response to me.
  5. My anti-apple-bias detector must be defective. I'd better check to see if there's an update in the app store I didn't see the USB spec for the Roku. They seem to have a few products and not all of them have USB support. WD Live does look pretty impressive. Good life-span out of that TV. The upgrade is going to be huge and shouldn't cost much considering prices these days. Who even bothers with 3D panels? Just curious.
  6. bias much? most files are already mp4/m4v already. just need to convert avi's and mkv's. i believe one needs to convert avi's for playback on Roku as well. we'll always need to convert something for every device. nothing is perfect, not even for you.
  7. I haven't experienced any restrictions. I have no problems with iTunes either. Format conversion is what Handbrake is for. The biggest advantage for roku is having a slot to plop in media, but it's restricted to MicroSD. Not sure why USB 3.0 isn't on everything these days. A bonus with Apple TV only benefits if you have iphone/ipad/macbook. Airplay. It's a snap to instantly throw stuff up on the tv from the device.
  8. I've heard that Roku is on par with Apple TV. I have the latter and love it. Something I read about Roku most recently was to wait for Roku 3 which is out in US but not in Canada yet. I've also read really good things about internet and voice from http://acanac.ca and I believe they've launched IPTV service on the cheap too.

Apparently Netflix is rolling out lists. Has anyone noticed this functionality added to their Netflix apps? I don't see any change online.

  12. The girl shooting that video was standing right in front of me. Apparently someone brought rocks from Red Rocks and that's what is in the fire. wow Todd. wow. sorta like watching this from your eyes.
  13. that makes me weep just imagining. Glad to find that you were witness. That just sounds like an absolutely amazing experience.
  14. I think both his birthday and day of passing should just be amalgamated into one über Jerry day. They're so close. Happy birthday you mad genius.
