  1. http://bit.ly/V5HbuN Gov’t Mule - The Orpheum Theatre, Boston, MA 10-31-2008 Gov’t Mule plowed their way through a powerhouse Halloween show at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre that served up familiar Mule tunes, and a set of impressive Pink Floyd covers. Following an opening set by Back Door Slam that deserves to be mentioned, Mule inaugurated the Hollows’ Eve celebration with “Brighter Days.†As Warren Haynes, the band’s driving force, dove into some six-string fretwork, Mule’s new bassist, Jorgen Carlsson, used his second public performance with the band to demonstrate intense musical prowess and woo Mule fans with a rockin’ stage presence that outdoes his predecessor, Andy Hess. After jamming their way through tunes like “Brand New Angel†and “Trane,†the Mule tore into an instrumental version of the Grateful Dead’s “St. Stephen†that took the already ecstatic atmosphere of the crowd to new heights. Haynes is a product of his influences, and years of touring with The Allman Brothers Band has helped him refine those tight slide licks that make his dueling leads with Derek Trucks amongst the best on the circuit. And having spent recent years filling the shoes of Jerry Garcia with the surviving members of The Dead, Haynes has had some serious experience jamming in those outer-worldly areas of the auditory spectrum. But, even with hints of Jerry, Duane and Jimi in his leads, at all times, Haynes’ tone is unmistakably that of Warren Haynes. Halloween has always been a flagship holiday in the jam band community, second only to New Year’s Eve. And with a band like Gov’t Mule, expecting something special is more than fair. Phish are attributed with getting the Halloween spirit going in the jam world with a performance of The Beatles’ The White Album in its entirety on 10.31.94. Years later, we’ve seen costumes and covers of all colors and genres. But, on Halloween 2008, Mule outdid themselves with a second set packed full of Pink Floyd tunes from throughout the psychedelic pioneers’ career. From the opening notes of the reverb-heavy “One Of These Days,†everyone in attendance collectively flipped their shit over what they knew would become a concert that would be discussed for years to come. As the set moved past “Fearless,†and “Pigs On The Wing†equipped with an inflated pig to the right of the stage, Mule moved into “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.†With sheet music in front of band members, it was clear that a great deal of effort went into pulling off their Floyd “costume.†Not only did they nail the composition, but Haynes even managed to replicate the near-perfect guitar tone of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. In addition to dozens of lasers piercing through a smogged theatre, the effects of a run through the first five tunes off Dark Side Of The Moon was enough to make any attendee melt in their seat. However, the highlight of the set was a funky rendition of “Have A Cigar,†featuring drummer Matt Abts on vocals. One of Haynes’ strong suits is his ability to mesh Black Sabbath-heavy guitar riffs with a sense of Headhunters-era Herbie Hancock funk, and “Cigar†just so happened to be the Floyd tune that brought that out the most in him. The second set wrapped with “Wish You Were Here,†and an encore of Mule tunes. “A Million Miles From Yesterday†and “Blind Man In The Dark†brought the shenanigans of Gov’t Mule’s Halloween to a close. Calling their show a success would be an understatement. Given the high hopes of attendees before they got to the Orpheum, most bands would have had a rough time meeting people’s expectations, but for the man who regularly fills the shoes of Duane Allman and Jerry Garcia, sending people home feeling satisfied required nothing more than practice, sheet music and some extra-trippy lighting. With Halloween ‘08 behind us, talk of Mule’s follow-up for ‘09 can be expected right around the corner. - Andrew Bruss mp3@320 Tracklist DISC ONE Brighter Days (7:37) Bad Little Doggie (4:03) Brand New Angel (7:39) Gameface (11:45) Trane (14:43) St. Stephen Jam (4:30) Monkey Hill (5:35) Child Of The Earth (6:19) Kinder Bird Jam> (2:06) Kind of Bird (12:07) DISC TWO One Of These Days> (5:44) Fearless> (5:48) Pigs On The Wing Part 2> (1:24) Shine On You Crazy Diamond w/ Ron Holloway, Machan Taylor, Sophia Ramos & Durga McBroom Hudson (14:06) Have A Cigar> w/ Matt Abts Singing and Ron Holloway (6:28) Speak To Me> (1:04) Breathe> w/ Machan Taylor, Sophia Ramos & Durga McBroom Hudson (2:56) On The Run> (3:53) Time> (6:35) Great Gig In The Sky> w/ Machan Taylor, Sophia Ramos & Durga McBroom Hudson (5:25) Money> w/ Ron Holloway & Machan Taylor, Sophia Ramos & Durga McBroom Hudson (7:16) DISC 3 Comfortably Numb> w/ Machan Taylor, Sophia Ramos & Durga McBroom Hudson (6:52) Shine On You Crazy Diamond Reprise> w/ Ron Holloway & Machan Taylor, Sophia Ramos & Durga McBroom Hudson (13:45) Wish You Were Here (10:38) A Million Miles From Yesterday w/ Machan Taylor, Sophia Ramos & Durga McBroom Hudson (3:44) Blind Man In The Dark w/ Ron Holloway (10:33) http://bit.ly/V5HbuN
  2. Happy Halloween :bonghit: http://bit.ly/UdPAXr Gov’t Mule - Holy Haunted House (Oct 31, 2007 St. Paul, MN) The entire 10.31.07 Gov’t Mule performance from The O’Shaughnessy Theatre in St. Paul, MN - including a complete version of the Led Zeppelin album “Houses of the Holy†The Gov’t Mule Halloween Spectacular got underway with a moody Play With Fire and a hot Time To Confess. A Million Miles From Yesterday got the crowd singing along and the Rocking Horse that followed kept’em dancing. After a dark Larger Than Life, Fallen Down beautifully wound it’s way into The Other One Jam. Danny, the guitar tech for Grace Potter was dressed as Farmer for Halloween and made the onstage guitar switch with Warren before the set ending Blind Man In The Dark. The second set of the night was a first for the band, crew and fans alike. The band, with the assistance of Audley Freed, played from cover to cover Led Zeppelin’s Houses Of The Holy. From the opening track The Song Remains The Same to the album ending The Ocean, Gov’t Mule put their signature stamp on this rock’n’roll classic album. With Audley onstage the whole set, the guitars were fat and crunchy, the bass driving, the keys rockin’ and the drums thundering. At the end of the Zeppelin set, the crowds roaring cheers were deafening and brought the band and Audley back to deliver an encore worthy of the previous set. Come On Into My Kitchen segued into 32/20 Blues which teased Come On Into My Kitchen to end an unbelievable Halloween night. mp3@256 Tracklist DISC ONE: 1 – Play With Fire 2 – Time To Confess 3 – Million Miles From Yesterday 4 – Rocking Horse 5 – Birth of The Mule 6 – Larger Than Life 7 – Fallen Down> 8 – The Other One Jam 9 – Blind Man In The Dark DISC TWO: The Holy Haunted House Set & Encore w/ Audley Freed on Guitar 1 – The Song Remains The Same 2 – The Rain Song 3 – Over The Hills and Far Away 4 – The Crunge 5 – Dancing Days> 6 – Drums 7 – D’Yer Mak’er 8 – No Quarter 9 – The Ocean 10 – Come On Into My Kitchen> 11 – 32/20 Blues http://bit.ly/UdPAXr

  6. Damn! Good times all over. That was a fun show and I am really impressed with the Danforth Music Hall. What an improvement having the seats removed! Lots of space, great sound, sightlines, more bars, etc. Well done. Good seeing familiar faces in the crowd and everyone having fun. Look forward to many more shows there. btw - the opener ROCKED (The Bright Light Social Hour)! They were AMAZEBALLS! Go see 'em live if you can. I can't wait to catch another show (and more than just a couple of songs!!!) Bummed i've missed a handful of gigs in the past year alone in the Toronto area http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showpost.php?post/701736/
  7. http://bitly.com/S0Xgfr The Bright Light Social Hour - The Bright Light Social Hour The Bright Light Social Hour is an American rock band from Austin, Texas. Born out of a university art-rock collective, the band first gained attention in Austin from their incendiary live performances and innovative vision of rock and roll. Melding southern rock, hard dance, psychedelic blues, and deep soul, their debut full-length album led to heightening critical acclaim, national touring, and a rare sweep of six awards at the SXSW 2011 Austin Music Awards, including Band of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Recorded in five studios around Austin during summer 2010, their self-titled debut is founded on sun-drenched optimism, raucous youth, and an innovative brew of American music. Producer Danny Reisch of Good Danny’s utilized the best elements of vintage and modern recording to achieve a sound both forward-looking and evocative of 1970s hi-fi. The first track, “Shanty,†pairs southern rock with hard disco, featuring the searing slide licks of guitarist Curtis Roush. Following the lean, exuberant stomp of “Bare Hands Bare Feet,†the band settles into the dark psychedelic funk of “La Piedra De La Iguana,†led by keyboardist A.J. Vincent’s dusky vocal and Farfisa organ work. Throughout the middle of the record, the solemn rhythm and blues of “Detroit†is juxtaposed with “Back And Forth,†a four-on-the-floor disco-funk romp. On “Garden Of The Gods,†the album’s penultimate 10-minute epic, the band evolves from stately ballroom Americana to an expansive, ensemble anthem, conjuring up their limber and unrelenting live sets. The fiery “Rhubarb Jam†closes out the record, featuring the agile, booming funk of bassist Jack O’Brien and drummer Joseph Mirasole. Following their album release, The Bright Light Social Hour have embarked on a heavy touring rotation, playing over two hundred shows throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They have performed in front of thousands of new fans, most notably at SXSW 2012, Wakarusa Festival and opening for Aerosmith at the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City. Chronicling their adventures, the band has released a series of self-produced tour documentaries depicting their life on the road. The Bright Light Social Hour is currently writing new material for a second full-length album with plans to return to the studio in 2013. - http://www.thebrightlightsocialhour.com mp3@320 Tracklist 01. 8. Right on. I'd like to see the Tigers win for the simple fact that Detroit could use something to cheer about. However, I do like rooting for the underdog too. Man, it would be nice to catch a game in Detroit. Play Ball!

  10. http://bitly.com/TaSR91 Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Psychedelic Pill Neil Young has said that his new album with his on-again, off-again backing band, Crazy Horse, “Psychedelic Pill†(Warner Bros.), was inspired in part by the journey through the past that he undertook in writing his new memoir, “Waging Heavy Peace.†The book lumbers and rambles through six decades of Young’s life and thoughts, often compellingly. The record does the same. “Psychedelic Pill†is Young’s longest album, which is saying something. It runs to nearly ninety minutes, and almost a third of it is taken up by the opener, “Driftin’ Back,†which begins as a gentle exercise in folk nostalgia but then blossoms into the thick, loud guitar rock that has characterized Crazy Horse’s output since 1969. The lyrics, which are few and far between, worry that the promises of the nineteen-sixties have been squandered by corporations and technology, and it would be an understatement to say that they are idiosyncratic. At one point, Young notes that he loved Picasso until “a tech giant came along and turned him into wallpaper.†At another point, he resolves to get himself “a hip-hop haircut.†Though “Driftin’ Back†is sprawling, it’s not exactly unfocussed. Young argues, in that song and elsewhere, that any attempt to flatten or commercialize art work (wallpaper, of course, does both) should be avoided at all costs. Elsewhere on the record, Young trots out “For the Love of Man,†a sentimental manifesto that has existed, in some form, since at least the early eighties; delivers a straightforward narrative of a relationship broken by alcoholism, in “Ramada Innâ€; and celebrates Canadian pride in the short, jaunty “Born in Ontario.†Not everything works; the spiky if slight title track appears in two different versions, neither entirely successful, and “She’s Always Dancing†sounds like a half-remembered “Like a Hurricane.†When the album succeeds, though, it does so on an epic scale. The sixteen-minute-long “Walk Like a Giant†has an eerie whistled hook and a chip on its shoulder that closely resembles the one in “Driftin’ Backâ€: “Me and some of my friends / We were gonna save the world,†Young sings. “But then the weather changed and the white got stained and it fell apart / And it breaks my heart.†The backing vocals chime in with a rueful reminder: “Think about how close we came.†The last minute dissolves into a collage of clanging percussion, industrial-strength guitars, and wordless harmonies, a fitting microcosm of the power and the sense of community at the core of this protean, exhausting, energizing record. - Ben Greenman mp3@243 Tracklist 01 – Driftin’ Back 02 – Psychedelic Pill 03 – Ramada Inn 04 – Born In Ontario 05 – Twisted Road 06 – She’s Always Dancing 07 – For The Love Of Man 08 – Walk Like A Giant 09 – Psychedelic Pill (Alternate Mix) http://bitly.com/TaSR91
  11. One round closer to the inevitable. Sorry Tigers and Giants fans. Yes guy! self high five guy! just kidding ... well played. Where's your money for the final? I'm good with either team. Loved seeing Detroit spank the Yanks, but have really enjoyed watching the Giants fight back off the ropes 6 friggin' times!
  12. Not enough time between plays to get some good slo-mo. It is f'in cool though. You're right, baseball is perfect for it. The ability to SEE the insane action on the ball that pitchers provide and the effects on the movement of the ball. If you like slo-mo check these guys out ... awesome http://www.youtube.com/user/theslowmoguys
  13. Love the slow-mo in the post season. This hit was wild. Check out the extra spin kick-in on the third contact. Who is the third commentator on the play by play who pipes in from the peanut gallery every once and a while? I found him f'in annoying last night.
  14. email sent to my mom .... Sorry, I can't help you out ... Mom said thanks, but no
  15. I am so sick of the f'in NHL, Buttman, NHLPA, etc. ... They are losing fan interest like crazy. If the NBA was smart (ha) they'd be doing everything they could to lure hockey fans to their sport (i won't be going though ). Life goes on without NHL-level hockey. I would like to see them lose the season and Buttman in the process. Treat it like a Phish 'hiatus' and come back later with a refreshed product and a thinned herd. In the meantime, this puts in a different perspective.
  16. Bummed about the venue change. I can't stand the disgusting bathrooms down in the basement where they actually have an ATTENDANT! Worst job ever. I am sure the good vibes and good music will overcome and it will be a fun time for all.
  17. Hey ... cool running into you too man. Wife was going "how does some guy pick you out in a full arena who's never met you before?" I just reminded her of the countless times it happened to us at Dead shows and she 'got it' I had a blast at the show. We moved around a bit. Started up near the front of the second floor section only to be surrounded by fratboyish fools and their girlfriends right at the start who were more interested in gossiping then rockin out. They started dropping toxic farts and laughing about it to the chagrin of everyone around. See ya, I ain't sticking around that. We moved to the open back area of the floor (where we saw northern wish) and it was much better. Lots of room and better sight lines. We then decided to do what we did at the Toronto show ... go to the TOP and BACK of the venue. Was the BEST MOVE. Could see it all up there and had THE BEST SOUND. We had a whole row to ourselves and just a smattering of fans having an awesome time. Lots of fan interaction and some really touching moments too. They played a real rarity in Terry's Song which was dedicated to a young Hamilton girl who lost her life this summer. You could hear a pin drop with just Bruce and his guitar performing. Reminded me of how special it was seeing him do solo shows at Massey Hall and The Fox in Detroit. http://www.thespec.com/sports/local/article/788999--young-hamilton-athlete-s-sudden-death-devastates-community Terry's Song, I'm Going Down, Trapped, I'm A Rocker were all highlights for me. Playing with the panorama feature on my phone i took this. I know Marcus99 has some good shots as he was in the front of the pit and helped Bruce do some crowd surfing!! Here's the setlist: 1. 18. Heading in to Hamilton in the next bit. Don't know if we'll get there for the pit bracelets but may go to a good preshow place. The BTX board has this place covered: Pheasant Plucker 20 Augusta Street, Hamilton, ON L8N 1P7 I'm gonna check it out.
  19. i'll probably scoop tix at a local outlet on Monday or Tuesday. Want me to grab you one?
  20. Thanks for the kind wishes everyone. Much appreciated. Looking forward to some killer times at Springsteen on Sunday, and then UM on Wednesday.
  21. Hunger Games ... now I'm hungry. Too early for lunch?
  22. Springsteen is notorious for multiple ticket drops. Check in to TBastard on top of the hour and keep trying. Have a great show for all those going.
  23. OK cool. That makes sense then. Yeah, I wouldn't want to hang out wayyy out there all afternoon. Three more sleeps until Hammertown Boss
