  1. Mine is yogurt, banana, Apple juice or apple cider and a teaspoon of spirulina.

Someone else mentioned this spirulina to me as being a super food, and that it goes great in smoothies. Haven't tried it yet, but I just picked up some vinagrette salad dressing that has spirulina in it. To be honest, I'm a bit afraid of it. ;) Supposed to be good for the body though...

I agree though, a smoothie will help, but it's not a magic bullet, it's really about eating healthy. And that's what smoothies do they give you a good dose of healthy food. If everything else you eat it crap, they probably won't help that much.

You'd be surprised how much better you would feel if you cut out all processed foods. This is probably a bit extreme, but I've cut out all foods that have added white sugar or corn syrup. Everything I eat that must be sweetened, I make sure is with fruit, maple syrup or honey. I've never felt better and it's great to see the pounds melt away.

Meditation can't hurt either. Don't wish to not get sick, instead imagine yourself healthy.

  2. Daily fruit smoothie with lots of berries and other 'super-food' antioxidents like blue berries. I swear this has been a miracle drink for us. Not only do we feel better in general, but almost never get sick anymore. We definitely notice when we didn't get our smoothie that day.

Also there are many great herbal teas out there that have imunoboosting properties. I like green/ginsing/lemon myself.

Medicate through nature. It really works.

  3. U.S. space agency NASA plans to send a Beatles hit across the universe on Monday, saying it is the first song ever to be beamed directly into deep space.

The song chosen is, appropriately, Across the Universe, and it will be sent out 40 years to the day after it was recorded.

The track will be transmitted through the Deep Space Network, an international array of antennas that supports space exploration missions, at 7 p.m. ET on Feb. 4.

The network will direct the song toward Polaris, the North Star, 431 light years away.

The event marks the 50th anniversary of NASA and the 45th anniversary of the Deep Space Network.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney sent a message of congratulations to the space agency, adding "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul."

John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono also hailed the achievement.

"I see that this is the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe," she said.

It's not the first time NASA has beamed up a Beatles tune.

In 2005 McCartney performed the song Good Day Sunshine during a concert that was transmitted to the International Space Station.

Here Comes the Sun, Ticket to Ride and A Hard Day's Night have also been played to wake astronaut crews in orbit.

The public around the world has been invited to participate in the event by simultaneously playing the song at the same time it is transmitted by NASA.

  4. Hey Slippery Dave,

Sorry to hear things haven't been going so well and I hope your find your way soon. We all loose sight of the big picture from time to time and loose our ways. I suspect you may just need a change of scenary/pace/routine to shake things up a bit and wake the real spirit of dave within you.

If you don't already meditate I'd suggest starting to do a half hour to an hour per day. You'll be surprised what you get out of it. If you don't know much about meditation I'd be happy to help.

  5. The article has a quote about the 30-50 year olds keeping them afloat.

The owner Rob is a friend of mine, and happens to be a pretty big head. He likes selling cool music. But hipsters and young folk get their music online now. The only people paying and still buying cds are the older folks, which means selling a lot more adult contemporary pop music.

It is too bad. I know Rob is sad about it, putting so many years into it only to just let it go.
