  1. Hopefully an ottawa show is on the horizon. they haven't been here in a while. IIRC my first meetup with folks from the sanctuary was at a new deal show in fall 2001 (pre-show party ad 's place).
  2. they have some open dates during ottawa jazzfest, so hopefully they end up here as well.
  3. it's also, unfortunately, the same night as Mike Watt @ Mavericks.
  4. Haven't visited this topic in a while, not had I visited Famous Frenchys in a while. Decided to go ther last Thursday with the kids. I ordered ahead, and didn't even notice the sign outside signifying the name change. It wasn't until I tried to get my hamburger club card stamped, that I found out that the place had changed owners. That explained the "new menu coming soon" sign outside of the place. The prices have reverted to the Famous Frenchy prices, but the new owners (two thirtyish dudes) said a new menu was coming with higher prices. Their reason was more expensive meat, which now comes from a secret location. all they would say was that it was a west end Italian butcher shop. I liked Famous Frenchy's because they used local meat from Sasloves. The burgers were good, but I don't think I'll be back, as they couldn't tell me if it was local, natural raised beef or not. They mentioned that the previous owner (Shonn/Shawn) had gotten divorced and that was the reason for selling the place. His wife's nickname was Frenchy - hence the name. And they had moved from Chelsea to live above the restaurant at some point. That came up on a discussion with Shonn during one of my rare visits to the place. the burgers and other foods were named after Frenchy's kid's names. Shonn was their stepfather. New guys will be adding steaks and ribs to the menu. a mistake IMO. keep it simple with great burgers. but...
  5. thanks for posting that. I heard the promo on the news last night but didn't stick around for it. Smoke, mirrors and a Harper majority
  6. strategic voting site: http://catch22campaign.ca/ great idea IMHO. Not the best designed web site IMHO. looks like some of us live in these ridings.

  8. I don't see Harper getting a majority. at least I really hope not. I think there is just too much now for it not to stick to him. His true contempt for parliament and lack of transparency, etc is shamefull. If he gets another minority he will likley be gone as leader of the Conservative Party within a couple of years. I really hope that Canadians finally get the message and understand how harmful Harper is and will continue to be to this country. I don't think any of the polls to date matter. The opposition now will be in the spotlight and have their chance to get their messages out. But, they will need to go out on the attack very strongly. Not personal attacks against Harper, but of his policies, and politics. The fodder is all there. Poll shows increasing voter skepticism about Harper government Conservatives are pedalling furiously but going nowhere Question Period this morning was some of the best TV I have watched. Harper didn't even bother showing up - let Baird handle it all. The House was just adjorned.
  9. They have some tix at the bar. I'll grab one over the weekend. unless you are looking for someone to take that extra off your hands.
  10. I've been sitting on this. Mike - can i get one of the tickets off of you? or let me know when you're dropping them off at Lauzon's.
  11. i just found this site with concert photos by Nash the Slash. http://www.nashtheslash.com/news/ including this one of the Grateful Dead Nash, clearly, didn't get it:

  15. the place was crazy busy yesterday - never seen it like that on an ordinary Saturday. and they had sold out of lots of stuff, like lamb. It was because of the coupons. The coupons are good for everything they sell in the store. they just got themselves a lot more customers.
  16. fuck - and they have a show listed for June 19 near NYC, making a June 18 Ottawa show seem unlikely.
  17. that was also my first show. never really got them before. but enough friends were big fans, so I thought that I should at least check them out. And a lawn ticket was still rather affordable then. what a great show that was. became a SD instantaneously.
  18. I was underwhelmed with their Bluesfest performance a few years ago, but they made up for it when I saw them perform the Royal Scam in Washington in fall, 2009.
  19. heh. the deal is still available today. there was conflicting information, coming from Kahoots' staff, re whether the coupon was good for meat only, or everything they sell. someone from the store (apparently) has cleared that up: Bouche - did you call Aubrey's directly for that info? on another note...Kyle left Aubreys, maybe 6 months ago, and is now working at the Piggy Market in Westboro. he was the large due with the muttonchops. and made very tasty patés. it was a loss to Aubreys.
  20. I'll often get into conversations with the staff, share recipes, and such. drives the wife crazy as she just wants to get out of there as it's one of our many saturday shopping stops.
