  1. i don't know about other hills, but you can rent helmets at Edelweiss (near Ottawa). you can buy a good one for under $100. i wouldn't feel comfortable in a rented helmet. and yeah, like stonemtn said, my helmet is super comfortable, warm, and is wired with my ipod. can anyone determine what the downside of wearing a helmet is? do you think anyone who's been in an accident where they hit their head has said 'man, i sure am glad i'm not wearing a helmet?'
  2. fwiw, FIS standards were changed in 2006 and since then helmets have been mandatory for all disciplines.
  3. hehe, great sign shown on cbc during the canucks game: 2 Sedins, 1 Cup
  4. ummmmmmmmm........ accidents can happen to anyone........ skill has absolutely nothing to do with the reasons for or against wearing a helmet.
  5. Stephen Vardy was there is 2006-07 and is now at the Black Cat in the market. Steve Wall is the current chef at Whalesbone.

  10. the whalesbone retail fish shop will probably have what you are looking for, but they probably won't be open when you see this. for future reference, it's at 504A Kent @ Arlington "Our retail fish shop is open with set hours Fridays and Saturdays. Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-2. On any other day, if the door is open - We're open." Lots of kitchen stores around though
  11. yeah, i saw the video of that incident on cbc. the side mirror of the car got hooked on the picketer's coat and she was dragged about 10 metres before the coat fell off the mirror. dude should have noticed he was pulling someone! he was going pretty fast too. at the same time though, you've gotta be pretty close to get your coat hooked on a mirror.
  12. below poverty line sure, and yeah, that's not good, but don't 99.9999% of post-secondary students fall into that category? yet they pay tuition, books, expenses, rent, etc... most don't have the luxury of teaching on campus alongside faculty that help in their own education. the vast majority aren't in any kind of union to talk up their unreasonable demands. 10 hours a week leaves plenty of time to get another job to get above the poverty line... yet the whole university is taken hostage? i dunno. shitty situation. when you talk of 'vantage point,' i think the TAs at York have zero perspective. back to the bus strike though...
  13. I can't believe the greed of the TAs at York. What planet are they on?!? Toronto Star: "While York's teaching assistants are believed to be the highest paid in Canada – at about $17,386 a year for roughly 10 hours of teaching a week – union officials said their wages still fall below the poverty line. "There is no percentage in being the highest paid workers in a poorly paid sector," said teaching assistant Punam Khosla." $33/hour isn't too bad for a student.
  14. The York strike is mind-blowingly ridiculous, much moreso than the OC Transpo one.

  18. O'Brien is indeed a douche and a failure, but he's just one councillor out of many. He's the mouthpiece, but the Council as a whole is of the same mind on this issue, according to them (now that Doucet has been muzzled).
  19. City Council will meet WEDNESDAY to discuss their next move. Nice to see they're serious about things, lazy fucks.
