  1. dudes, William drives the bandwagon. to suggest otherwise is ridiculous. this game is terrible. nobody has shown up to play (for ottawa). dean has had some funny calls though. that's about all i'm enjoying about this debacle.
  2. the TBA on April 1 is Jim White and Sarah Slean
  3. if a band i like is playing at zaphods (or any bar, for that matter), chances are i'll be there. that's what it comes down to for a lot of people.
  4. i'm not eugene's biggest fan, but if a band is given a set time from 10:15 to 11, it's not that hard to stick to that, is it? play the hand you're dealt. sucks for spontaneity, and isn't the best for fluid creative types or fans, but oh well. also, you're right about eugene being an egomaniac who takes too much from bands. but, he books a ton of shows and gives a lot of exposure to local and national acts. stikes me as that is a good thing. there's no other venue in town that does that.
  5. Yes, a show ticket gives you free cover
  6. wow, just saw this on the cbc news. brutal. will see what happens tomorrow when no doubt a suspension will be given
  7. i didn't think you could pre-order live rush tickets, but i haven't ever done that so i'm not sure of anything i just wrote. those live rush tickets pissed me off once. i bought MMW tickets the day they went on sale, spend about $50 i think. William walked up the afternoon of the show, whipped out the student id, and paid $8 for the seat next to mine. serves me right for expecting MMW to sell out a giant hall in ottawa next to a field where blue rodeo was playing at the same time.
  8. i've only been there a handful of times, but i've sat in every area and i think they're all good views. i don't think there are any obstructed views. maybe ask the NAC box office why there is the vast difference in ticket prices.
  9. Many many days go by where I don't think about the Leafs or their fans at all... I don't despise Leafs fans. Never said they did. There were definitely some blown calls though. Thanks, the Sens are gonna need it.
  10. what a dumb dumb rule. if that is true.
  11. seems like the opposition is always benefiting from the other team's third jersey
  12. i bet me dry-heaving into a bag would sound pretty good in a church. it would also sound better than Franz Ferdinand.
  13. I'll go out on a limb and say MMJ are my favourite band (in addition to my other 3 favourites ) and this is a do-not-miss event. It won't be a regular gig with all the HD cameras around and probably a bit more light than at usual dark shows, but man, MMJ, on the cusp of releasing a new album, in a converted church with a capacity of 1200 (probably less for this show with the staging and all the equipment for the taping) will be absolutely KILLER
  14. hey when anyone hears back about the mmj show can you post here?
  15. the jays will experiment with 'all you can eat' seating this year. full story in today's toronto star

    Bluesfest 2008

This (the Ottawa part) is a rumour and speculation, both on my part and on CHEZ 106 and many internet boards. Metallica will be playing Quebec City as part of Festival D'ete and as part of the 400th Anniversary celebrations. This show will happen between July 4 and 10. According to the unnamed and therefore not yet credible sources, Bluesfest is in negotiations to have Metallica play. This is where Schwa chimes in, I do believe.
  17. aw, you guys have built-in excuses now. how cute.
  18. i'm not sure how these people got my email, but i'm sure glad they did. i really wanna get into that MMJ show. really really really really badly.
  19. you didn't think that when he gave the speech though, did you? neither did i. wow. very very impressive.
  20. the one touch drives are very easy to use and do a good job. as for free backup software, i use ezback-it-up daily. it does the job.
  21. i agree with everything you said, except there definitely is a cover. $3 until 11:30, $5 after. it was just raised. $5 cover is ridiculous. show times are usually advertised. your taste might differ from the dj's. these are comments that could be addressed to any venue, non? if the live music feels rushed at Zaphods, blame the band or your expectations, not the venue. Eugene isn't on the side of the stage with a cattle prod. Zaphods definitely has its pros and cons, but on average, they have 6 nights of original live music every week - I don't think that is lame at all. As for your "real show" comment, that sounds like an insult to the bands that are playing there. is their effort or skill not real to you? Tonight, I'll be at Zaphods to see Ladyhawk, Immaculate Machine, and Videotape. Doors are at 8 pm, tickets are $10 advance, maybe slightly higher at the door.
  22. i have no idea. i was talking about the store that burned down
  23. the owner of Suspect Video has purchased the stock from Giant Squid Independent Video in Stratford which recently went under. Suspect Video will be re-opening soon, not sure where yet.
