  1. I gave this a listen last night all the way through for the first time...and like most albums by bands i like, i was unimpressed at first. The intro to the first song, Made to Measure took me right back at first...reminded me of hearing Dither by moe. for the first time...way overproduced. I know what you're saying, it's an album not a live show blahblahblah. A quick little Preamble and it was into the title song, Mantis. This is easily the best song on the album in my opinion. It had a sort of Triumph meets Journey anthem feel to it, kinda Umph meets the 80's...not bad and i'm certain this will be one of the extended jam-outs at their future shows. They then switch gears for the next couple of tunes...not sure which were which cuz i was doing the dishes in the next room, but they're definitely pulling from their experience with The New Deal and Bisco....a lot more techno in there....BUT they've doctored up Baylis' voice so it's sounding good at least. All in all, i really need to give this another couple listens to figure it out, but it definitely didn't grab me right away like a few others recently (Truckers, Hold Steady and Wilco's new ones...or even Safety in Numbers) That being said, I know i'm going to buy this album in the next week or so to add to the collection. Several of the songs will be awesome live, that is for sure
  2. tigger should learn to type before he can have an opinion
  3. This is very nice to hear after last nights scare: Ravens RB McGahee released from hospital Owings Mills, MD (Sports Network) - Ravens running back Willis McGahee was released from a Pittsburgh hospital Monday morning, one day after he suffered a frightening blow to the head during Baltimore's 23-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. Ravens senior vice president of public and community relations Kevin Byrne released a statement Monday regarding McGahee's health. "Ravens running back Willis McGahee was released from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh early this morning and returned immediately to Baltimore. He is resting at his home today. It is expected that Willis will have a complete recovery from the head and neck injuries he suffered last night." McGahee was put on a stretcher and carted off the field after a violent collision with Pittsburgh safety Ryan Clark in which both players' helmets collided with 3:29 remaining in the fourth quarter. The former Miami Hurricane standout caught a short pass over the middle and Clark came up to make the helmet-to-helmet hit with McGahee having his neck snap back at the impact. Both players remained on the field for several minutes with Clark eventually getting to his feet and walking under his own power to the Pittsburgh bench. McGahee, though, remained on the ground until medical personnel immobilized his head and assisted him to a stretcher. He was taken to UPMC for tests and held overnight. He finished the game with 60 yards on 20 carries and a pair of touchdowns before leaving.
  4. Well as long as we're picking winners, put me down for Arizona. So impressive in the face of a very hot team (Philly) that they convinced me this past week.

  10. In 2000, when Rickey Henderson was picked up by the Seattle Mariners after being released by the Mets, was talking to John Olerud at the batting cage at Safeco Field. Rickey asked John, "Hey John, how come you wear a batting helmet in the field?" Olerud said, "Because in 1988 I had brain surgery and I need to protect my head from line drives" Rickey said "Oh, that's funny, because last year with the Mets I had a teammate who also wore his helmet in the field." John Olerud said "Yeah Rickey, that was me."
