  1. Alex Cuba is tonight and he is fan-friggin-tastic!
  2. Dearly beloved, let us not forget this beautiful show.
  3. PJC presents Juno winner ALEX CUBA ~Tuesday, March 4th~ 8pm, $8 http://www.alexcuba.com http://www.myspace.com/thealexcubaband @ Pepper Jack's 38 King William St. Hamilton (905) 525-6666 www.pepperjackcafe.com Both shows are all ages. ALEX CUBA is a Cuban-born multi-instrumentalist who now makes his home in Canada. He is kept busy pushing sophisticated Cuban sounds into the mainstream. From his earliest years in Artemisa, a town about 60 km from Havana, he was immersed in music. Alex’s first stage appearance on national TV was at the tender age of four, playing claves (a percussion instrument) in a group directed by his music instructor father. Alex went on to study guitar, tres, percussion and bass, practicing eight hours a day during his teens. Although Alex Cuba won a National Song Writing Competition in Cuba when he was only 18, he did not recognize his singer/songwriter path until he moved to Canada, after years playing bass in traditional Cuban groups as well as jazz and pop alongside Roberto Fonseca and Javier Zalba (Buena Vista Social Club), recording three albums and touring Europe. Morumba Cubana, 2001, the album received a nomination for a Juno award - as well as winning a West Coast Music Award and a Canadian Independent Music Award. Debut CD with the Alex Cuba Band, Humo De Tabaco, earned him a Juno award for World Music Album in 2006, and the single Lo Mismo Que Yo, featuring Ron Sexsmith being playlisted on BBC Radio 2. Alex Cuba has performed for festivals in the US and Canada, sharing the stage with Seu George and Jose Gonzalez at Central Park Summer Stage in New York to Feist at the Regina Folk Festival. He has opened for The Blind Boys of Alabama, Cesaria Evora and Ron Sexsmith. New for Alexis is the electric guitar a vintage Gibson that brings a trademark sound equal to his magnetic appearance. "a singer/songwriter who is continuing along a path he first struck out on bridging his Cuban roots so evident in his song writing with his musicianship reflecting the jazz he studied with elements of funk and early rock." Then on Wednesday... 10. PJC presents THUNDERHEIST with guests dj's JOOCE vs TRESS SIMON TOYE BARUK Friday, Feb. 29th, 2008 Adv. tix $8 @ Pepper Jack's, Dr. Disc 19+, Doors 9pm. www.thunderheist.com www.myspace.com/thunderheist Stealing thunder so you move that ass, the duo dubbed Thunderheist unleashes serious electrocrunk boom bap. Ribcage rattling bass breaks laced with proper rhyming are flipped with digital booty bass, 80s-inspired electronic pop, and slowed down Southern bounce, all fresh dipped in serious swagger. Dancefloors get loose when Thunderheist reigns. Tunes like "Bubblegum', 'Suenos Dulces' and 'Horny' get bodies bumping. Music blogs light up with repostings the moment they post a new tune. DJs from all over the world drop them in the mix. Press has come knocking, based on the smiling, sweaty faces coming out of TH jam. Audiences for live shows keep growing as word spreads. Simply put, they get lotsa love. The lady runs the mic, and her name is Isis. This Nigerian-born, Canadian-raised emcee has shared stages with a wide range of hip hop heavyweights like Bahamadia, Vast Aire (Def Jux), M1 (Dead Prez), Tumi and the Volume (District Six), and even rap crossover phenomenon T.I. Her skills, focus and drive landed her an invitation to perform at the celebrated 'Show Time at the Apollo' in 2006, gaining a fan in DJ Kool Herc. Fast-forward a few months and she's spitting into mics on a cross-Canada Tour, culminating in an unforgettable show at Montreal's International Jazz Festival in front of a crowd of 5000. Hard-hitting rhythms are courtesy of Grahmzilla, the incredible versatile producer & DJ twisting up the low end on the beats and in the mix. Inspired by a serious addiction to vinyl for the better part of 15 years with a collection including electro, jazz, hip hop, funk, techno, rock and pop, his production work can't help going straight for the jugular. Not surprising, given that he's rocked the decks with acts ranging from Prodigy, Herbaliser, Coldcut and the X-Ecutioners, to Kid Koala, DJ Food, DJ Vadim, Jurassic 5, J-Live, to Chromeo, Flosstradamus, and Plastic Little. @ Pepper Jack's 38 King William St. Hamilton (905)525-6666 www.pepperjackcafe.com

  16. I am stoked for tonight. Such a great buzz on these guys coming from everywhere, it's not even funny.
  17. You 2 guys are into them? Well I'm stoked even more so now.
  18. Yeah, I felt so behind the times trying to get into the dead scene while all these younger hippies had already moved onto the glory that was Phish at that time. In 90 I actually had a ticket to see one of the copps shows. I choose not to go so I could finish a high school assignment instead. I never did finish that assignment in time and regretted that decision ever since. to think I could have had 2 more years of dead shows to see... if only...
  19. I should also mention all those americans. I def experienced some genuine kindess from a lot of the people I met. there was some snobiness too. not every hippy was so accomodating to a "newbie' such as myself. the kids camping in the car next to ours were like. "Yeah the dead's cool, but I'm more into this band..." and gave me 3 cassettes of a phish show. so my first dead shows were also my introduction to Phish, who I also fell head over heals for. The show I recieved was this one... 07-20-91 Arrowhead Ranch, Parksville, NY 1: Chalk Dust Torture, Foam, The Squirming Coil, Llama, Oh Kee Pa Ceremony-> Suzy Greenberg, The Landlady, Bathtub Gin, My Sweet One, David Bowie 2: Buried Alive, Reba, Caravan, Dinner and a Movie, Flat Fee, Golgi Apparatus, Stash, TMWSIY-> Avenu Malkenu-> TMWSIY, You Enjoy Myself, Rocky Top E: Possum With The Giant Country Horns.
