  1. Yeah, caught the afternoon Vegas show. At first I wasnèt too impressed; it just wasn't bluegrassy enough for me. Eventually I moved towards the back of the room and started liking it a lot more. One thing for sure - the singer has a great voice, a rare thing in the jam scene.
  2. You going Bradm? Hope to see you there.
  3. I had tix to Daniel Levitin at the Writers Festival tomorrow night and he has cancelled due to "yesterday's tragic events". How utterly lame of him.
  4. We had tickets to a beer-tasting which was cancelled, so it turns out this one hit a little close to home. Which is a bit of a joke but mostly serious. By which I mean we hear about shootings and the like all the time, and finally there's one right here where I live and only a couple of kilometres away at that, and even at that the most it affects me is that a random event I was going to attend was cancelled. So while these attacks are horrible and horrifying and increasingly frequent in a relative sense I don't see how it makes the life of anyone (statistically) any more in danger.
  5. Please post info here about all upcoming concerts. Thanks OttawaJazz. skiddly doo-wah
  6. Awesome. Pleased to Meat you sir.
  7. Oh, and no ticket fees whatsoever? Very classy jazzfest, very classy.. (though having no hard-copy ticket option is a bit disappointing for us stub-collectors)
  8. Cool! I wanted to check this out last year but it was sold out by the time I heard about it. I'm baking in the African sun right now but I can't help it; I have Christmas songs running through my head. Woo!
  9. Johnny Blueshirt & the Denim Trousers What do I win?
  10. From the archives: Stardate 031403 nero opening for Drums & Tuba @ The El Mocambo, Toronto, Ontario Recently renovated and reopened, the El Mocambo is sacred ground. Everybody has played there, and it was 26 years ago last Wednesday that the Stones recorded Love You Live there. Jeebus. I had never been, moving away from Toronto before I comfortably reached sneaking into bars age. It’s a nice enough room with exorbitant drink prices; a big rectangle with a raised stage at one end. Another interesting historical note about the evening is the fact that it was opening for Drums & Tuba that marked Chris’ first gig playing bass with nero. Interesting to hear how much more comfortable he is within the ensemble now, and nice that they now have more than six songs together to choose from! Steve set up a great merch area, unfortunately outside of the main music room, and tons of familiar faces started pouring through the door. A good friend of mine from my early university days came out to the show early to hang out. I was really glad to see him, but kinda bummed because I spent so much time saying hi to all the folks that came out that I hardly got a chance to hang out with Ryan, who was there alone. Anyway, I guess that’s just further testament to how many people came out for the show and how great of a time we all had. Unfortunately, a lot of people left during D&T’s set, which is a drag, but at the same time, not their best show. Tony (their drummer) wasn’t feeling well, and they had just got their van broken into. Good excuses, to be sure. One thing though, that band undeniably rocks, and a huge thanks to them for being one of the only US acts that regularly makes the Canadian run. Cheers guys, awesome seeing you again. Surprisingly we didn’t party that night, but opted to go back to the beaches and sleep. No matter, we’re to be in Toronto again tomorrow night, and I’m sure a lot of folks will be sticking around for it. 11. What a shame. I'm interested to see what goes in it's place.
  12. Went to the game last night and had a really good time. Bought really cheap seats in the end zone ($30 each). Couldn't follow much of the play from there but we were close to the cheerleaders. After the rain we hopped into good seats on the 50 metre line. They were cushy. The venue is pretty cool - It's neat seeing the wood columns up close. I will definitely go to another game, and with five straight sellouts I actually expect the team to still be around next year.
  13. Dead cat??! I feel at least partially responsible.
  14. "For this excursion Walter Becker and Donald Fagen will be joined by Keith Carlock on drums, Freddie Washington on bass, Jim Beard on keyboards, Jon Herington on guitar, Michael Leonhart on trumpet and keys, Jim Pugh on trombone, Roger Rosenberg on baritone saxophone and Walt Weiskopf on saxophone as well as vocalists La Tanya Hall, Carolyn Leonhart-Escoffery and Cindy Mizelle." Is that Freddie "Boom-Boom" Washington on bass? I might just have to go - I've always been a big fan of the Sweathogs.
  15. Either way there was no getting in the door.
