I have no hatred of hip hop, but Deltron was boring. Maybe it was the lack of the conductor and other instruments, but every song sounded exactly the same. Journey was way better than Deltron 3030. And Booche, if you think the Meatstick from Canandaigua was fun, you should have seen gentlemonkey dancing to it. Hilarious.
  3. Hip hip hooray. Change the name?!??! That's pretty Low, Roller.

Just curious as to why you thought Journey was exceptionally bad. To me' date=' it was high energy, professionally played and well sung (unlike Dr. Hook). It wasn't life changing, but it certainly delivered what I expected from a Journey concert and I had fun. I know everyone around me seemed to be enjoying it, and I dare say if anyone didn't enjoy it at all, then maybe they just don't like Journey (no sin in that, but then why be there in the first place?) I also had fun at Dr. Hook , but I can't say it was great. Ray Sawyer was singing a bunch of song where, for the most part, he was not the original lead singer and for which is voice was completely unsuited. Don Felder at least had the sense to back himself up with musicians who were also strong singers, to give his band a solid group vocal sound that is necessary for the Eagles material he was playing (plus I have always maintained that Felder is a decent singer, just not at the standard of Don Henley ... besides, hey, Don Felder wailing on guitar). Ray Sawyer should have tried something like that, but he instead carried pretty much the whole load himself, and his vocals are just not up to it. Another weak vocalist was Kimberly Perry from the Band Perry. They weren't unprofessionally bad, but I did find her singing voice slight with not much behind it. Certainly not nearly as good as those from Lady Antebellum a few days prior. [/quote'] Dr. Hook made a big impression on me musically as a child and with that in mind I hope Sawyer stops touring soon. He just canèt sing the tunes, despite having what I thought was an excellent backup vocalist on bass. The lead vocalist from Journey is so close to Steve Perry yet so very far away, and the difference made the show painful (too strong a word perhaps), and the playing, while overall correctly done was the epitome of uninspired.

    Bluesfest 2014

Well, there goes another Bluesfest. I had a good time, though I sure do miss the days when all of y'all were onsite every day. I made a point of trying to curb my spending and in doing so kept track of what I bought. I spend just $92 onsite this year, attending nine of the ten days. I saw: Beth Hart Gary Clark Jr.* Darius Rucker Journey^ Sly & Robbie Jeff Tweedy JJGrey & MOFRO Lady Gaga* DBT Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin Violent Femmes St. Vincent Cypress Hill Bombino* Trombone Shorty* Procol Harum w/ NACO Blondie The Band Perry John Mayall BNL* Bob Saget Deltron 3030^ Little Freddie King Thornetta Davis Snoop Dogg Dr. Hook^ Goddo (*=exceptionally good, ^=exceptionally bad) Plus I got to play a set on the Black Sheep stage yesterday with the Be In The Band Instructor Showcase* which was very sweaty and tons of fun.
  9. So the idea that the option to text your restaurant order as opposed to saying it aloud is considered a "need", like people are hankering for such a service? "oh," I can hear them type, "if olny thr ws a place wher i could sms the w8er. talking sux lol" Uh-huh. Surprised they're going bricks and mortar for this project.

Did you really just post a setlist without a spoiler alert? Are you new to the internet?
  11. A friend tried really hard to get me to see them in Montreal in '93. I had seen a couple of local shows that week so I begged off complaining that I needed a night off. Show was at Metropolis and tickets were what, $15 or $20? Oops.
  12. Did you have a beard back then Brad?
  13. I have now officially been seeing Phish for twenty years. Why do I still feel like such a noob? There were only a few hundred people at the show, I was right in front of Fishman dancing maniacally, shirtless, and very, very drunk. Stone Mtn. had played me Contact and Golgi from Picture Of Nectar a week or so before but other than that I had no idea what to expect. I was very much blown away. Added bonus: I walked (staggered) to and from the show from my house (I think). 16. I'm sure Kevin agrees. He also thinks it's criminal to spend more than one or two afternoons recording an album. It's too bad.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice they are not.
  18. Spice things up?!?! Don't you think it's exciting enough looking at an artist lineup and still having no idea who will actually be playing the festival? "Oh geez, looks like Gord Downie couldn't make it after all but don't worry: we've booked Avril Lavigne instead! (no refunds)" Yeah, I'm still bitter about last year and will remain so (I consider it theft and I don't like thieves). If they announced Tom Waits was coming to Harvest Picnic I still wouldn't buy a ticket until day of.
  19. I believe this means that... moe. Chris Robinson Brotherhood The Wood Brothers Dr. John Gord Downie and The Sadies Galactic Blues Traveler Robert Randolph and The Family Band Buckwheat Zydeco Arkells Joel Plaskett and more...will be in Canada the same weekend as Ottawa Folk Fest.
  20. I Just Came Back To Say Goodbye tour?
  21. Every time I visit their website my AVG virus thingy goes nuts. What are the dates of the fest?
  22. I didn't know weezy was in on this gig! That's it. I'm going twice.
