  1. Bummer about the sound, that's a pet peeve of mine. I wonder if I can request that they hire a local tech of my choice for the night? Can anybody recommend somebody who's good? Hey Northern Wish, do you know anything about PA's? Can you tell me if it's just a vocal PA, or does everything run through? Is there actually a front of house booth and a guy who mixes, or are we talking about a powered mixer side-stage?
  2. Wow! Great news guys. Thanks for all of your input. I'll be looking for each and every one of you when I play there! I'm hoping to bring a really good bill to town so keep your eyes peeled.
  3. Actually Mike Ventimiglia is gonna be in Europe with his band the Mississippi Kings...so instead I've got Dan Griffin playing guitar with me that night. And Espanola was officially the last band I had where I didn't lug the pedal steel to the gigs...but that's over now, I'm gonna sing part of the set from behind the steel. We just rehearsed all weekend, it's gonna be a blast!
  4. Google maps tells me this place isn't downtown. Has anybody ever heard of it? Is it way too off the beaten path for you to get there to see a show? (bus strike notwithstanding) 'Preciate yr input!
  5. Holy shit man! Feel better soon!
  6. FRIDAY DEC 19 (I'm playing with three of the four acts) SATURDAY DEC 20 STUMBLEWEED Chris Gatchene (Fat Cats) - guitar, vocals Steve Murphy (Steve Elmo Murphy Band) - guitar, vocals Shelby Kerr (Steve Elmo Murphy Band) - vocals Aaron Goldstein (awesome) - pedal steel Dave Hill (Fat Cats) - bass Ricky Neu (Diesel Dog) - drums I'd better see every last one of you raging from 10 o'clock until Kenny kicks you out, on both nights!
  7. The final installment of our four-part Hometown Roadshow series, it's gonna be killer! We'll play three sets, backing Jimmie during second set. See you tonight! Wednesday December 17 Huron, joined by guest Shotgun Jimmie @ Touche - 9:00PM -- 19+ :: $2 http://www.myspace.com/huronband http://www.myspace.com/jimjimers
  8. The third installment of our four-part Hometown Roadshow series, it's gonna be a good one. Tonight! Wednesday December 10 Huron, joined by guests Julie Fader (w/Erin Aurich on violin) and Tom Wilson @ Touche - 9:00PM -- 19+ :: $2 http://www.myspace.com/huronband http://www.myspace.com/juliefader http://www.myspace.com/tomwilsonmusic
  9. Sweet story Jeff...closest I can come to that is a phone message I got from Tom Wilson after playing on his last record. "Garth Hudson was in the studio today while we were mixing and he loved your steel playing. So there you go, you've got a fan in old Garth Hudson!" Your story kicks my story's ass though...way to go man.
  10. We had a great time. Tom will be getting up with us this week, as will Julie Fader...we might even arrange a duet between them of Gram Parsons/Emylou Harris proportions...we're trying to, at least. Hope to see some folks out, last week was packed but no Jambanders in sight!
  11. That's a patented Matt Jelly poster my friend. And Shel, there are three more roadshows (incl tonight) on Dec 3, 10 and 17, and then the Pepper Jack's Hannukah party on Dec 19. Get yr ass to Hamilton!
  12. This is gonna be a ton of fun. We're gonna back Terra up for a bit, and something real new to our repertoire is Pete's Blackburn songs. He's never played them with a band and I think they're sounding awesome. That, plus your favourite balls-heavy psyched-out Huron jams, the singable guitar-pop of Cam Malcolm's Owls, and the lonesome alt-country of Espanola. This is a night not to be missed! For those of your Sonic Orchard early birds, this band is Jawbone with a new name! Hope to see you all there!
  13. The Huron Roadshow starts tonight at Absinthe! Lots of special guests lined up! Don't miss it!
  14. Yeehaw, we're gearing up for a old-time rock and roll night...those of you who were at the Frontier Town saloon on May 2-4 know what I'm talking about, good times and lots of fun. Also wanna report that our guest next week at the first Hometown Roadshow will be our buddy Dan Griffin...we'll back him up on a few tunes, and he'll sit in for some of ours. Lots of great guests in the works for the Touche shows as well...I will announce as soon as they're confirmed!
  15. "Brimming with the stoner-rock intensity of Black Sabbath, the swampy Southern rock of the Allman Brothers and the harmonious pop of the Band and the Beatles, HURON is Cam Malcolm (guitar, vocal) formerly of THE SWEET HOMEWRECKERS, Aaron Goldstein (guitar, vocal) and Adam Melnick (bass, vocal) both of THE SURLY YOUNG BUCKS and DAN GRIFFIN'S REGRETS, and Pete Hall (drums, vocal) formerly of A NORTHERN CHORUS. The Hometown Roadshow is a series of four special shows that will see the group playing three sets each night, combining the Huron catalogue with songs from band members' solo projects: Malcolm's Owls, Goldstein's Espanola, and Hall's Blackburn. Expect cover tunes, special guests, a different set list each night and four highly unique performances in the life of this budding rock band." Hey! You early Sonic Orchard folk remember Jawbone? All 25 of you? We're called Huron now. You should pretty much put aside every Wednesday upcoming for these shows! This Wednesday Adam and I will play at Touche (formerly 33 Hess) with the Midnight Shift, which you will affectionately remember from last year's Sock Hop as a trio with our buddy Sean which performs nothing but Buddy Holly material. Then Huron will do four Hometown Roadshows: Nov 26 at Absinthe, and Dec 3, 10, and 17 at Touche. Then we'll cap off this series of shows with a Hannukah party at Pepper Jack's, Fri Dec 19, which will feature Huron, Dan Griffin & The Regrets, Julie Fader, and Don Vail. We're going to feature some guests for the Roadshows, details of which will be announced this week. So to recap: Wed Nov 19: MIDNIGHT SHIFT @ Touche ($2 cover) Wed Nov 26: HURON Hometown Roadshow @ Absinthe (no cover, also Motown!) Wed Dec 3: HURON Hometown Roadshow @ Touche ($2 cover) Wed Dec 10: HURON Hometown Roadshow @ Touche ($2 cover) Wed Dec 17: HURON Hometown Roadshow @ Touche ($2 cover) Fri Dec 19: HURON, DAN GRIFFIN & THE REGRETS, JULIE FADER, DON VAIL @ Pepper Jack's (cover TBA) Absinthe: 233 King Street East Touche: 33 Hess Street Pepper Jack's: 38 King William Street http://www.myspace.com/huronband http://www.myspace.com/thegoodrevoverdrive http://www.myspace.com/dangriffinmusic http://www.myspace.com/donvail http://www.myspace.com/juliefader
  16. Killer show. Missed Jimmie, was pissed. AiB was great I thought. Ladyhawk too. Bought the 7", gotta listen to it today.
  17. I can't believe you guys are for real, it's still beautiful autumn in Hamilton today, no sign of the white. Don't jinx it!
  18. Great band. I recently had the chance to work with bass player Josh Finlayson, good dude and a great player. He played bass (and I think contributed some writing) on Tom Wilson's new project Lee Harvey Osmond.
  19. p.s. Angela Desveaux + Blackburn = awesome
  20. Are you sure about that? Yeah, Dan will be in Victoria BC that night, on tour with the Arkells.
  21. Sweet band, I've played pedal steel with them a few times but unfortunately can't make it on Tuesday. Definitely worth catching though.
  22. Erg, first chorus of Peaceful Valley, idiots yelling. Why, idiots? Why must you be so idiotic?
  23. I'm listening now and it sounds pretty good!
