  1. What he said. $475 isn't any kind of deal for a Mexican Fender. A new one is $530 at L&M right now. Your $500 can buy all sorts of better guitar than a Mexican Fender. Pablo's suggestion of an older USA-made G&L is spot-on, they're awesome guitars and the value-for-dollar is high. http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-G-L-ASAT-Special-Guitar-/320530077992?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar&hash=item4aa114d928 http://cgi.ebay.com/G-L-USA-ASAT-Special-Tobacco-Burst-1998-1999-/330431898714?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar&hash=item4cef46a45a
  2. Shhh...don't tell anybody. In all seriousness though, upon reflection it has been four years since I started on pedal steel. Time has flown! The gig is unbelievable. Great people, cool shows, legendary band. Saturday was my birthday, and the show that night was in Bethel, NY, at this location: Dammit, having trouble embedding the pic. Here's the link: http://twitpic.com/1m6113 That thai place is right around the corner from my hotel, I'm going there now bouche! Thanks! Also spotted Burlington Records earlier, gonna go pop in now. Magic Hat is apparently in the cards for tomorrow. Looks like there's some livetronica thing at Nectar's tonight which doesn't really interest me; if anybody knows of anywhere else I might catch a cool band I'm all ears.
  3. Skancs, some of you know that lately I've been lucky enough to be playing pedal steel with Cowboy Junkies. I'm down in the US on my third leg with them. Not really a permanent position, more of a when-our-schedules-allow type of arrangement. Fun times. Anyhow we're at Higher Ground in Burlington VT tomorrow night and today I find myself on a day off in Burlington. This is a town and venue that I only really know about through reading about them on this board. Anybody been here? What's cool in town? Any cool guitar or record stores to check out? Bars? Restaurants? Suggestions appreciated.
  4. Is she, or is she not, reciting a Christian rap about JC being "in the house"?
  5. Love the name too...he'll score all the Jewish chicks with that one. Congrats you two!
  6. A music professor of mine was insistent that his children be born to Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" which I thought was awesome. If it were me I'd probably have the Brown Album playing (the Band, not Primus). Exciting, Marge!

  8. You should probably just call him Aaron and then maybe you'll have a little steel player on your hands.
  9. I dunno about that...my buddy when to Gallagher's and came back with stories of beers with Pat Sansone and John Stirratt, but didn't say anything about the rest of them being out...
  10. Indeed, Bradley...and please note that Friday April 2 is Good Friday, so we hope to make it a barnburner. Other acts TBA.
  11. Just a note to drop a big load of dates on you all...Ottawa skancs, note we'll be visiting you twice in the next little while. Also the LP's have arrived and are quite awesome...they feature an extra photo collage that isn't in the CD. And they're 180 gram and come with the usual download card. Stoked! Hope to see as many of you on the road as possible! Cheers. 12. Christopher Walken is well-remembered for his appearances in the Stepford Wives... ...Sleepy Hollow... ...and the Fatboy Slim video for Weapon of Choice: But do you remember him as "The Kid" in The Anderson Tapes?
  13. Hey thanks Blurry...I'd say to watch for the charge and if it doesn't happen (or happens twice), give them a call and they'll sort it out for you. 1-877-944-5144. ANYHOW we've somehow ended up on the Maplemusic front page with Hawksley Workman and Kate Maki, which is nice. http://www.maplemusic.com And I realize that those videos really belong in the video forum so I will put them in there.
  14. Quick update folks: The official release of the record is pushed back only very slightly, to Tuesday March 23. We're really excited to be playing three shows with buds Cuff The Duke on the previous weekend: Thu Mar 18 Montreal House, Peterborough Fri Mar 19 Maverick's, Ottawa Sat Mar 20 Lee's Palace, Toronto Also we had a great little mention in the National Post over Xmastime: Canadian Futures 2010 The vinyl is just about done and I should have a giant heavy box in the mail any day now. It will undoubtedly be for sale at shows as soon as it arrives (maybe early next week). Also of course we continue to play Wednesdays at the Dakota, starting with our own set and then backing Ian Blurton for two, until the end of February. Two weeks ago a cat from Now magazine was out and took a vid which was cool...but then last week a fellow named Tom came out and took six vids - three of the Huron set and three with Ian. If you've heard our record you'll recognize all three of ours. And if you didn't believe me when I said that shit gets jammy, especially in Ian's set, here is my proof - best evidenced in the last video below, "Folded Plastic Fingers", where Ian sits down at the bass and lets Adam reign over the keys. The vid starts in the middle of the tune when I've already sat down to lay some psychedelic steel on the situation. Enjoy: Huron - "King & Country" Huron - "Corktown" Huron - "The Biggest Dig" Ian Blurton's Happy Endings - "Free Jazz Hands" Ian Blurton's Happy Endings - "Sin's A Good Man's Brother" (Grand Funk Railroad) Ian Blurton's Happy Endings - "Folded Plastic Fingers"
  15. Sigh - the border thing is not really the full story. Taper guy makes it sound like we were held at the border. The truth is, yes, there was a hold-up with our US visas for this group for some reason. But if you've been following the other goings-on in Good Rev land, you'll know that I'm playing with Ian Blurton's Happy Endings/Huron at the Dakota in Toronto every Wednesday night in January and February. So I was never going to be at this gig anyhow. In any event, we had an almost-sold-out Friday night and an oversold Saturday night at the Black Sheep, so all was a great success. Things got really jammy, especially Sat night, it was real fun to play that room again. If there were Skancs in the house they didn't introduce themselves to me...
  16. Hey folks, just givin' a holler that my Huron bandmate Cam Malcolm and I will be coming to the Black Sheep in Wakefield this weekend playing in Tom Wilson's Lee Harvey Osmond collective. This band has been getting pretty trippy, and last time we were at the Black Sheep we had a standing-room dancing crowd, it was great. Liam Titcomb opens up. Two shows, Friday and Saturday night. Come on out if you would! In other news, Huron is gonna be in Ottawa on March 19, playing Maverick's with Cuff the Duke. Stoked!
  17. Amazing news, but for some reason Krist Novoselic is saying it's not true: Humbug At the end he says he's still in regular contact with Kim Thayil so I'd assume he's the "very reliable source". But I wanna believe that Thayil is just giving him the runaround because he knows whatever he says will just end up on Novoselic's blog.
  18. I remember them from my own childhood which was about a decade after yours my friend! According the internetsss, they still exist... http://www.shrinkydinks.com/
  19. Not until March 2, which is the official Fontana release date.
  20. Haha, no acetate that I saw, though that would have been bad-ass. They sent us four 180 gram records, same as they will be when they're pressed, just with 'test pressing' on the label. The CDs, however, have been pressed for almost 6 weeks. When you order from Maplemusic, they should ship right away.
  21. The pressing is already underway, we've already approved the test pressings, so hopefully in a few weeks.
  22. Thanks Laurie! Hey, our Maplemusic store is up, so you can order hard copies of the disc HERE
  23. That's insanity. How many people does this place hold? I thought Dio was ill? WHAT TIME WILL THIS HAVE TO START?! Are you telling me Hetfield, Mustaine, King and Ian are allowing IOMMI to open for THEM?!
