  1. Fuckin right buddy, a million mazal tovs. This makes me want to drive to Hamilton right now to have a drink.
  2. I'll second that. At the end of this blog post the writer says, "Fuck Chris. Fuck. Why?", and I think you understand the inference. Really too bad.
  3. Ha! He and I were having dinner, and then he took his Pho to go because the rest of the band were hassling us to get back for soundcheck. I was still sitting inside enjoying my Pho in defiance of the rest of them as you were walking by, AD. So did you come to the show??
  4. Super pumped for the vinyl as well. Just thought I'd stop in to say, first of all, thank you for all the enthusiasm surrounding the record. Super happy that so many of you are digging it. This is something I've discussed in a few different private topics so I figured I'd put it here. The best way to support us, obviously, is to come out to a gig and pick up a copy of the record (and take a shirt while you're at it). Of course, though, the digital download supports us too, and I wanted to mention that the filetypes available are all high quality: Apple lossless, FLAC, and 320kbps MP3. Lastly, though, our deal with Latent and Fontana means that we get to have a Maplemusic merch store. I just dropped off a box of discs at Maplemusic an hour ago, so hopefully that store will be up and running shortly and you'll be able to order a physical copy to your door. Thanks again for all the support. We're in Ottawa tomorrow night at Babylon, just playing Ian's set, but we'll have copies of the Huron disc for sale if anybody's looking for one, they're only 10 bucks. And Ian's set is at least as massive and crushing as ours so he's worth seeing too. Cheers all
  5. If I recall correctly, Velvet, didn't you have some moment later in that trip where the money saved you from certain doom? Maybe I'm wrong... There was nothing else you could have done man. It's very likely that the person to whom you handed the money would have pocketed it. Without anything identifying, what else could you have done? Nothing, I say.
  6. That's awesome. You should send a thank-you into Now's Missed Connections, or the Craigslist equivalent.
  7. p.s. Here we are at the Dakota last week. L-R Ian Blurton, Pete Hall, Cam Malcolm, Adam Melnick, Aaron Goldstein. My only regret is that the photo doesn't convey the true number of amps that are onstage...which is 8. If you could see behind my guitar rig there, you'd see Adam's little fantasy keyboard land, with his organ and piano, and his beloved tape echo that informs so much of the psychedelia of both the Huron and Happy Endings sets.
  8. The Dakota timing has pretty much been 10:30 - 11:30 Huron 11:50 - close Happy Endings (two sets) And we just confirmed January and February the other day...not that that should keep you from coming out tonight if you can Kev-O! Are you in Toronto now? Hard to keep track of ya...
  9. Yup...there's no Huron set that night, just Happy Endings, which is Ian's band...i.e. Ian Blurton + Huron = Happy Endings. It's a heavy show. Hope y'all like the record. Edger...I think Adam is on campus until the end of this semester and then he's free! You know how to reach him?
  10. Here's the link if you don't care about the story: latentrecordings.com/huron Here's the story: I'm in a band called Huron, along with another guy you might know, my pal Adam Melnick (kookycanooky on this board). We've completed our debut record, which will be released on Latent Recordings (Cowboy Junkies' label) in early March next year. In the meantime though, the record is complete and pressed and we've been doing a few unofficial record release parties around Ontario in conjunction with our friend Ian Blurton, who also produced the record. Ian has his own solo record coming out and we're acting as his backing band at these shows - a Huron set, followed by one or two sets from "Ian Blurton's Happy Endings" (depending on time constraints). The shows have become very jammy and I keep saying that you folks on this board would really love what we're doing (in my humblest of opinions). In any event, our label is streaming the entire record on their site now and I thought maybe some of you might like to hear it. If you like it, we'd love for you to pick one up when we come through your town; either that or you can purchase it online right there on the site (iTunes coming with official release in March); or if you prefer vinyl, it's on the way and we should have it early next year. Here are our upcoming dates with Ian: Wed Nov 25 Dakota Tavern, Toronto Wed Dec 2 Red Dog, Peterborough Thu Dec 3 Green Room, Montreal Fri Dec 4 Toucan, Kingston Sat Dec 5 Mohawk College McIntyre Theatre, Hamilton HURON ONLY Fri Dec 11 Babylon, Ottawa HAPPY ENDINGS ONLY The Dakota date is the last in our Wednesday residency for now, but we'll be back in January and February, sharpening our chops before the record comes out. The album is streaming here: latentrecordings.com/huron And here is the art. Thanks for reading. Hope you like it.
  11. Interesting, so I guess they're trucking down once a week eh?
  12. As a fellow Dakota residencee (resident?), I can tell you that the JH's have been doing every Tuesday with Sam and the Haggard, alternating sets - i.e. each band plays two sets over the course of the night. Not sure if they were only signed on for November or if the residency will continue, but if November is it then tomorrow (today) would be your last chance to see them. Do these cats all live in Toronto now? I thought they were an Ottawa band?
  13. Look here skanks...we all know this is gonna be a sweet show, and I actually kinda wish I could make it. But instead my band Huron is playing with Ian Blurton over at the Dakota, which is a sweet cowboy bar in the West end. We're starting with our own set, then backing Ian playing his new solo record "Happy Endings" beginning to end. We're doing this every Wednesday at the Dakota to celebrate the release of both of our records. The night will easily go until 2am so as a gesture to you fine folks, many of whom I am SURE would appreciate what we're doing, I'll arrange at the door to offer two-for-one cover tonight for anyone showing their UM ticket. Can't say how late things will go over at the Opera House, and if you happen to be coming West anyway the Dakota is an awesome place to keep shit going. I'm pretty sure we're only charging 6 or 7 bucks anyway so you'll be getting in for like 3 bucks. Don't never say the Good Rev never did nothin for ya! The whole night is going to be very psychedelic and and very heavy...there's a lot of Mule-esque Southern riffage, and in Ian's set there are generous helpings of live dub interspersed with psychedelia, balls-out arena rock, and Zeppelinesque riffin. Of course you all know Ian from Change of Heart, Blurtonia, Bionic, and C'mon; he's produced records for the Weakerthans, Cursed, Amy Millan, Tricky Woo, Lowest of the Low, Rheostatics, Skydiggers, Illuminati, and now...Huron. He's the beardiest one in the below photo of the five of us (though I am easily the second-beardiest): Hope you can make it! If you head to our site there are lots of other Ontario dates for these shows, check'er out: http://www.myspace.com/huronband
  14. The ACTUAL Friends of Hefner? It's been a while for that crew... Andrea WK is worth the price of this ticket alone, she rules...you'll want her to DJ the rest of your life.
  15. The first set looks like something I would have really enjoyed. Second set looks like it's been filtered through a healthy session. "Dude, have you ever seen to the Mule...ON WEED?!" Bummed I couldn't be there, had another commitment. Really wanted to check out the new bass player, any comments?
  16. Derek's a friend of mine too...I hadn't seen him for years but we both ended up on the same festival this past summer in Salmon Arm BC (I was with Lee Harvey Osmond and he was subbing in Elliot Brood) and had a blast catching up with him. Killer dude. I knows he's played a few roles in the Beauties (I think he started as the piano player?) but I'm almost certain he's been their drummer now for a long time. So this drum you speak of, zero, that's Derek. The Dakota is a bad ass joint, an awesome place to hang out and play. I have a record coming out with my band Huron and we're playing Wednesdays there in November, beginning next week on the 4th.
  17. That question requires a complicated answer, Bradley... I played a bunch of steel on the Huron record. Though I have before, I usually don't bring the steel to Huron gigs because I'm already hauling a foolishly large rig. However my Bluesfest set with Lee Harvey Osmond tomorrow will see me splitting my time between steel and guitar, so my steel rig will be with me as well (we're actually towing a trailer to accomodate it all)...whether the steel makes it to Irene's or not will be a matter of logistics. Now I'm off to bed as I have an early load-in tomorrow in your fine city. See you tomorrow Brad, and all you other fine Ottawa skanks!
  18. Bumpin it up to say we're pumped to be headed to Ottawa tomorrow morn! Lee Harvey Osmond at Hard Rock Cafe stage, 8pm; afterparty at Irene's with Sandman Viper Command and Huron! Come on you Ottawa skanks, I haven't seen most of you in years; actually I've never met most of you. Git on down to the shows, wouldja?
  19. Deeps, correction for you if it makes any difference; we're going to be on 2nd of three tonight (Saturday) in Guelph, with Songs From A Room opening at 10:30. So 11:15 or 11:30 is a good bet.
  20. Tell Evans to get with the program and show up! The Guelph gig is Saturday, London is Friday. Tonight at the El Mocambo it's 9:30 The Sweat 10:15 Sandman Viper Command 11:15 Huron Would love to see you if you can make it Deepsy.
  21. Right onnnnn Steven. We'll be last of three but I gotta mention that the other two bands will also be awesome. Perhaps in the 11:30 neighbourhood?
  22. Right on dudes, you rule. Hey, so, I went and bought a new cabinet...and also a Leslie. Hoping they'll both make the trip with me. On the left we have my long-time 74 Traynor YBA MkII head, perched atop my latest acquisition, a 67-71 style Traynor YT10 that was modded at some point to include a single 15" speaker on the bottom and retain two of the original four 10" speakers. So, 1x15" and 2x10" in the same cab. I'm in love. Next to that is a Cordovox CL30, basically a rebranded Fender Vibratone/Leslie 16. Also sounding awesome. Like I say, haven't tried to load the van yet. Hope they both fit. Even if not though...there will be rock.
