We (Surly Young Bucks) are excited to be a part of the fest this year, with so many bands we're acquainted with from the jam scene and the indie scene coming together (pardon the pun) in what looks like an awesome festival. Unfortunately our drummer, Dan Griffin, can't make the festival, but in his place we're stoked to have our friend Dan Empringham of Circuit Breaker and Joel Elliot & the Thin Line. I was on the floor too, Willy, didn't even see you. Venue is annoying. Sound was actually not bad, rather good I must say. Ushers et al were completely unprepared for an audience made up of roughly 40% heads. There were four seated sections on the floor, my tickets were in one of the outside sections. Sightline was not bad but as Willy said, a whole bunch of people rushed up front when the band came on and I wanted to be up there, too. They wouldn't let me into the middle aisle to get down in front, though, unless I had a ticket for one of the two middle sections. I saw ushers taking people to their seats in those sections and when the people saw the crowd up front, they ditched the ushers and went on up, and the ushers couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't even make it in there, though, so we sat in our seats and also did a bit of standing off to the side of our section. There was no search upon entering the venue, though they didn't allow any bottles, incl plastic. Smoking in the venue would have been bad, bad news, I imagine...there were ushers and security everywhere. The show, by the way, WAS awesome. Always an awesome time seeing the Bros. All the oldies...Don't Want You No More, Ain't My Cross To Bear, Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, Hot Lanta, One Way Out, Don't Keep Me Wonderin', Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, Jessica...of course Midnight Rider, can't ignore that one at the Casino. Was disappointed about no Liz Reed but maybe it'll happen tomorrow. Afterwards Derek and Jaimoe were hanging out in the bar for a bit and then Derek went out to the floor to gamble, I stopped him and talked for a bit. Nice guy. Fucking killer guitar player. Read my other thread re: how I got in for free tonight and how you may be able to do so tomorrow!

A friend of mine signed up for Casino Rama's Player's Club card or whatever they call it. This was a few months ago when he was at the casino. It doesn't cost anything, they give you one of those cards that you hand in to any table you sit at and you insert it into every slot machine you use, and you rack up points and presumeably they comp you all kinds of stuff. Thing is, he barely played the day he signed up for the club and he hasn't been back since. So a few weeks ago he gets a letter thanking him for joining the club, and offering him two free tickets to either of the Allman Brothers shows, or any of the three Kenny Rogers shows, simply as a thank-you. I think he had to call and tell them whether or not he'd take them. We showed up yesterday around 4 or 4:30 and were given a pair of floor seats absolutely free. Show was great, met Derek Trucks afterwards, blah blah blah, I'll post more about it in the other thread. Here's the kicker and something to note for all you poor hippies dying to see tonight's $55 concert but are short on dough: As we were in line for the box office, there was a dude at another window filling out the form to join the Player's Club and the woman in the box office gave him a free ticket to tonight's show on the spot - he didn't know it was coming and was completely surprised and thankful, and he ended up sitting right next to us. So what I'm saying is - maybe you shouldn't take my word for it 100%, might be worth calling them before you go - but I think they're comping these shows to the Players Club, and apparently they'll dole out tickets even if you join on the spot. Like I said, I don't want to be responsible for anybody heading to Rama today and being denied, but I felt this was information I couldn't keep to myself. Do with it what you will.

I drive a 93 Mercury Sable, "Old Blue". It was my grandad's, but he doesn't drive anymore. It was given to me last May with 81,000km on it. I've had to put some money into it, but it's great on gas and gets me to all my gigs.

Jackie Greene is a cool choice, I think he's a great songwriter. His presense is somewhere between Dylan and Springsteen, but he's also a monstrous musician, I think he plays all the instruments on his records. Don't know a whole lot about him, I was only turned onto him a couple weeks before I heard him on the Band Tribute album earlier this year (maybe last year?). Toronto date would probably be the 20 or 21...22 is Ann Arbor and 24 is Kalamazoo, they probably don't want to bother crossing the border three times. Here's hoping.

Hoosier Poet is powerful as all fuck; very Sabbath. They played a set at my house party this past Friday. I'm on a stolen wireless signal right now so I can't dig up the links, but if you go to YouTube and search Hoosier Poet there are three videos from said party - heavy as hell. Highly recommended if heavy is your thing.
