  1. Very true Jaimoe, the Redneck Jazz Explosion is hard to beat! Too bad Emmons' solo is cut short. Danny Gatton is a monster. I'll check that out Rev.
  2. Great tune and a great album, thanks Rev! The chorus in the song "Dear John" (w/ Norah Jones) is also a heavy. Funny enough, that song has no pedal steel.
  3. I must say, this isn't my cup of pedal-steel tea. While I can appreciate what Buddy Emmons did for the the instrument, I guess I like my pedal steel more countryfied and less jazzy.
  4. Travis with the gold suit! Thanks for the pics.
  5. Ahhh, damn.. That's the same night as Cinematic Orchestra at the Phoenix. Tough call.
  6. I reckon I'll go to the Toronto show!
  7. that's a heavy line-up for a songwriter's circle! too bad more collaboration fun didn't come out of it though. did manx pull out his cigar box slide guitar thing?
  8. Thanks for the reviews. Never heard of Brooke Miller but I'll now keep an eye/ear out. AD, what'd you think of the Manx/Breit collaboration? *JUST* very good? I must say, Harry Manx is definitely in my top 3 favourite musicians. Are The Sadies doing any new material these days? Who sat in with them for the afternoon set? I look forward to the next time I see them. I saw D.Rangers once, at Hillside immediately after BSS at an adjacent stage, and became an instant fan.
  9. Every weekend in the summer the Harbourfront Centre puts on a free festival with loads of great free music. (This past weekend included Do Make Say THink.. anyone go???) Anyways, this coming weekend is a festival called Beats, Breaks & Culture. And none other than CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA are playing live, for free. Easily one of my favourite bands over the past 2 years so I wanted to give a heads up. Also playing is FOURTET, and lots of others.. Here's a description: Beats, Breaks & Culture http://www.harbourfrontcentre.com/wr/bbc/ A festival for the senses, the Beats, Breaks and Culture show displays the creative artforms of the urban environment. The internationally-inspired event focuses on music, break dancing and live graffiti art creation. The music on hand is that of an electronic vibe, featuring some of Canada’s most talented house, trance and jungle artists. The festival will explore the history of electronic music, starting with its roots in soul, funk and jazz, as well as current and future music that mixes electronic with contemporary global sounds. This year's performers include The Cinematic Orchestra, Kieran Habden (a.k.a. Four Tet) and Steve Reid, Shout Out Out Out Out and DJ Dolores (full band). Other features in the festival include Rock the Bells, a documentary that personalizes the spirit of the do-it-yourself movement, and Pop, Lock & Load IV, Canada's largest break dancing competition.
  10. That's the one. http://www.ontarioplace.com/en/events/festival.html
  11. What is the name of that fireworks series they do in Toronto where the show is choreographed (sp) to the music? I'd like to see that in the Fall if its still on!
  12. We don't get Clamato juice over here in Korea, so no Caesars.. Life is tough! I like my Caesar to be like an fine iced ministrone - loaded up with as many ingredients as possible. Celery salt, celery, worcester, tabasco, lemon, HORSERADISH and pickled ________. Picked ANYTHING really but I enjoy 3 or 4 big green olives, or a pickled string bean. I bet even a big dill pickle would go well.
